*CLOSED TO NEW MEMBERS* Shorties Club

Quote  |  Reply

*EDITED December 17, 2012*

I'm Sara. I know there's a bunch of "short girls" clubs but I can never seem to find one that fits. It's always "5'4" and under with a lot to lose (40+)" or something too specific, so I decided to create my own group! This is for shorties (like, true, honest, really-freaking-short people... 5'3" and under please) to vent, trade advice, or just chat. Here are my stats:

Gender: Female
Age: 22
Height: 4'11"

SW: 140
HW: 145
CW: 125
GW: 115
It amazes me how people so close in height can have such different goals and plans, so I'd really like to share.

Our weigh-ins are every Wednesday morning, if you would like to participate in that. The scale isn't everything, though!

Nkfromm, weight lifting is a great idea for any woman as it goes a long way in helping protect against osteoporosis. You probably already are protecting against it in other ways though as jumpy type exercises like running can be weight-bearing and therefore protective - but the more, the merrier, right?

Sara, that's the spirit. You'll never know if you don't try. And I should get a wrist timer or something like that too. Since I do a lot of my workouts at home I often just use an online timer from the net but that's not much good when I leave the house to exercise.

Burton, abs! That's something I haven't worked specifically on for a while. May have to incorporate that some time this weekend. Have fun at the game.

Sally, Can't argue with Dr's orders! And I love fish and chips too. Sometimes homemade is best. For some reason I didn't think Americans really did 'fish and chips". I thought it was more a British and Australasian thing.

I lost another 1/2 cm of my waist and also 1/2 off the fullest part of my stomach. I'll try to do the rest of the measurements this weekend.

I think it is more of a British dish, but I'm a southern gal and we love us a good fish fry. :)

Awesome work with the measurements.

@nkfromm - I love WomensHealthMagazine.com because there's tons of short circuits for every need, and they're free!

@sally - YAY don't even worry about the distance, by the end of it I was just doing the best I could in the time that they allotted.

@joaree - I really need to invest in a notebook to log my workouts (right now I have scrap pieces of paper shoved in my book haha) and a wrist timer. Congrats on the 1/2 inches, that's awesome!

I'm a bottomless pit today.

@sara- I love that website too! I also have a subscription so I love reading them at the gym when on the elipitcal, makes the time pass so much faster lol

@joaree- congrats on the 1/2 cm!

I don't have work until 2 today so I am just lounging around the house with nothing to do and trying my hardest to stay out of the kitchen! I had a pretty big breakfast this morning of egg white and feta and half a slice of protein bread (which is extremely chewy by the way) toasted with peanut butter. But I'm starving again and I ate at like 9 and its 12 now, whyyyyy? Lunch/dinner tonight will probably be a big salad with some chicken if we have it. Probably not going to make it to the gym today but I think I will go to 8am spin tomorrow before work at 10:30 :)

Happy early memorial day weekend everyone! Stay strong at all those bbq's!

@everyone who gave me weight lifting tips. I am going to start at the women's health site for some exercises. My last real problem area is my tushy and some squats with weights would help. Plus, you all made it sound so beneficial.

I have one BBQ on Sunday. It won't be too bad. My son is in a soccer tournament all weekend so I always eat good because we want him to fuel upon all the right foods. Last night I went shopping to avoid alone time in the house with just the refrigerator. I found some cute tops on clearance and I didn't snack. Win win. Have a great weekend all!

@Sally, that's awesome you lost so many sizes and great job running for 30 minutes straight! I don't think I can run that long without stopping.

@Burton, yay for your weight going in the right direction! I really need to try spinning sometime. You make it sound fun. Maybe I will try to next week.

@Joaree, ya for the 1/2 cm!

@Sara, how are you liking NROLW? I need to do it again. It has been about a week and a half since I have been to the gym.

My weight is down quite a bit from the other day. I weighed somewhere between 117 and 118 this morning. That is still up about a pound from last week though. I have been lazy and haven't worked out at all this week. I plan on going for a run tonight and tomorrow. Hopefully working out will get that pound off quickly. I would like to reach somewhere around 110 by my birthday in about 8 weeks. I think it is doable as long as I stick to working out, but I have really been slacking lately.

@burton - Yeah I'm subscribed too and I'm so upset! My June issue is probably sitting on my bed at home waiting for me and it's got one of my favorite ladies on the front! Can't see it until the 2nd haha.

@nkfromm - Good for you, venturing out! Let us know how you like it.

@nmward - LOVING it. I feel so accomplished in the gym, I don't feel like I'm wandering and doing half-useless things. I feel like I'm going to get results. Although I can already guarantee walking is going to be an issue tomorrow haha.

Ate a bit much this weekend but I did get a good weights workout in. This coming week is my last week of lectures for the semester and then I get to spend most of my time at home studying for exams - hopefully I can use that to my advantage to cook healthy meals. Of course it could go the other way where I'm constantly snacking to procrastinate - but I will try to avoid this and keep my eating much more structured than that. I'll have 2 and a 1/2 weeks of lecture-free exam study and then I get a two week break where I have absolutely nothing I have to study for - looking forward to it!

@joareee - Yayyy for long study breaks! Best of luck with everything!

Did 20 minutes of HIIT training (intervals) with my dad on this beautiful trail near his house this morning. It was like 86 degrees so it was HOT and the way back it was all uphill but hey, I've never had a workout that effective in only 20 minutes before. 1.76 miles. Did 10 minutes of abs after we got back.

Made fruit crepes for breakfast and a protein shake after my run!

I love a fast, efficient workout! Mmm fruit crepes - sounds delish :)

@joaree- me and my sister joke that when studying for finals your stomach is like an empty pit. Your always hungry even if you just ate a massive meal hahah. But I am sure you will be fine since you are conscious of what you eat and don't have that mentality of "hey its finals I'm gonna eat whatever I want lol"

@sara- so many people I know are getting into HIIT and crossfit. Where did you find your workouts? I may want to give them a try.

@nmward- that's a great goal to have! 8 lbs in 2 months is like what a pound a week, relatively? I totally think that is doable and a healthy way of losing too! I think you will get there no problem :)

Today I weighed in at the lowest I have been in sooooo long 123.2! Super excited about it, but I'm sure it has a lot to do with the fact that yesterday I ate 2 meals since I was at the beach all day and when I get hot I can't even think about food lol. But I was super excited that I had to share. Hopefully my goal of 123 by Wednesday will be a reality, I haven't made my goal weight for the week in a very long time

@burton - To be honest everything has come out of the NROLFW book. They give you suggestions on how to start HIIT and how to build up over time!

Burton, I have gone down that track before but then I've also had other times where I've taken advantage of the time for good rather than evil lol. I'm definitely in a better frame of mind and more focussed in my study when I'm taking care to eat healthily. I also want to stay active throughout my study, even if its just a tiny bit each day - it just keeps me from getting lethargic from all the sitting at a desk.

Last night I went back to the first ZWOW workout so I can start again, doing all the ones I previously missed out because they had weights (which I didn't have at the time) or in which I just used water bottles for weights. The ZWOW I did last night had dive bombers, burpees, squat leg lifts, side planks lifts & pistol squats. Be interesting to see if my legs are sore today!

Hi! Why are you closed to new members? I'm a shorty at 4'11 :-)

@joaree - Omg I don't know what half those things are but it sounds like it's going to be touchy today haha best of luck!

@katherinedan - We're closed to new members because a lot of people were coming in, posting 1-2 times, then leaving. We have a good group of about 10 people that consistently post and I'm very proud of our little family here!

I may or may not have just gotten both of the tops of my feet tattooed hahaha.

@joaree- do share what ZWOW is. Just the letters involved make it sound interesting hahaha

@sara- so cool! what did you get?! Post a picture for us :)

I got both of my parents' signatures, because they recently got divorced so it just made sense to me: separate, but together, both my foundation and both always leading me in the right direction. Picture.

If I work out today I think it will be yoga or pilates - something that does not require tennis shoes. :P He said I could wear them but I'm going to give them another day to heal before I suffocate them with a sock haha.

Breakfast is two slices of whole wheat toast with one whole egg, and a cup of coffee with York creamer. Fish oil and multivitamin, too. I have my phone interview for a new job opportunity in like five minutes, I'm nervous!

@Burton, yay for being at your lowest weight in a long time! You should be able to meet your goal of 123 by tomorrow.

@Joaree, ZWOW sounds like a good workout!

@Sara, I love foot tattoos! They are super cute. Yours looks really good and I love the meaning behind it. Did it hurt really bad? My roommates both got foot tattoos recently and they said it was really painful close to the toes. I have heard that the feet and the ribs are the most painful spots to get tattoos. Good luck on your interview! Let us know how it goes.

All of the weight that I gained while my family was here is gone. I knew it was mostly water weight, but I was afraid some was real weight gain. I weighed 116.2 yesterday, which is exactly where I was two weeks ago. Now hopefully I can start losing again.

Sara that's cool about your tattoos. My friend has a butterfly on the top of her foot.

Well the weekend went well, didn't over eat too much, got in some exercise and spent some great family time. I've been in a funk all weekend it seems. I'm frustrated because it seems like I'm working so hard and getting no where, I felt for sure I'd be at 165 by now but it's been over 6 months just to get this far.  I realize I'm doing it the right way, but....I wish the results would happen quicker. I stepped on the scale and I have two lbs of water weight that have been there for about 5 days now. I know it is water weight because there's no way I've eaten 7000 calories extra and I've not missed a workout all week. But it's there none the less. I just have to pick myself up and press on. It is what it is, anything worth having should be worth working for....

Today, I had a BLT sandwich with low sodium turkey bacon for breakfast.  My usual....  Then lunch will be left over fish.

Dinner, I'm making a spinach quiche, with egg beaters, sun dried tomatoes and low fat mozzarella cheese, and a salad.  Sounds pretty yummy.

3 DIY Tortilla Tricks
I love Mexican food—tacos with crispy shells, crunchy taco bowls and salty tortilla chips. But I could do without the extra calories, fat and sodium in the salty, often deep-fried tortillas served at many restaurants or the less-than-healthy packaged versions of these foods sold in the supermarket.
