*CLOSED TO NEW MEMBERS* Shorties Club

*EDITED December 17, 2012*

I'm Sara. I know there's a bunch of "short girls" clubs but I can never seem to find one that fits. It's always "5'4" and under with a lot to lose (40+)" or something too specific, so I decided to create my own group! This is for shorties (like, true, honest, really-freaking-short people... 5'3" and under please) to vent, trade advice, or just chat. Here are my stats:

Gender: Female
Age: 22
Height: 4'11"

SW: 140
HW: 145
CW: 125
GW: 115
It amazes me how people so close in height can have such different goals and plans, so I'd really like to share.

Our weigh-ins are every Wednesday morning, if you would like to participate in that. The scale isn't everything, though!

Age: 27 | Height: 4'11

HW: 130 (started 'dieting' January 4, 2011)

SW: 126 (when I joined CC and this shorties club)

CW: 124!

GW: 115 by April 1 and 100 by August

2 pounds finally after I was stuck at 126 for a loooong time! I am happy but..I hope I don't go back up.. been drinking wine this week. Ugh, social events are the death of me I swear.

HW: 130

LW: 102

SW: 110

CW: 108.4! The scale seems stuck! That is okay. Just 3.5 pounds to go till goal. I have till the end of March to reach my goal - it is getting close!

My fiance and I have been dating for 5 years! We are not getting married till the Spring of 2012. I love to bake and we both love chocolate. So, really V-day is a good excuse to indulge.  Probably not the best when you are trying to achieve better eating habits.

Thanks for all the congrats fellow shorties, it means a lot.

Doritos are low cal, right? :P

Hi! I am 4'11 and its nice to know there's a place for shorties like us.

It can be difficult for us because I feel like a lot of people have a tendency to expect that with my height I have to look like a waif to look good!

Thanks for making this group!

Good morning.

Do we do a Thursday Weigh-In Too?

I usually weigh-in on Thursdays.  I weighed in this morning and I was pretty excited:

Today's weight: 118.2 lbs

Last week's weight: 119 lbs

Goal Weight: 115 lbs (roughly)

Highest Weight: 125 lbs

Height and Age: 5'0, 23 yrs old

I guess not too bad.  My "monthly friend" came this week so I was worried that I was going to be a lot heavier.  And I only worked out once this week. :(

How are some of the other girls doing?

Welcome!! I am 4'11" too!! What are your goals, daily calories, and exercise?

@brinkley_rebecca - I know how you feel. I worked out consistently this week and ate really healthy foods (minus Superbowl Sunday night). I was hoping to see at least a .5 loss or something. But don't go to the gym every day unless day 7 is yoga or stretching! Your body needs at least one day a week to repair and rest.

@carlynhow - Congratulations! Any loss is a good loss! My roommate works at Smoothie King so she brought home a whole box of Acaii Cleanse samples. I take two pills every morning and two pills every night and it just helps flush out your digestive system. It's a 2-week cleanse but I don't think I'll do it the whole time, just until I'm back to regular! It's already started to help.

@danalovesbooks - Congratulations! Jeeze!

@chrissy1988 -  Keep up the hard work and the numbers will fall!

@lakebccrew -  .4 is still great haha some of us gained weight this week!

@moralez - Congratulations! That's great!

@joaree - Hm I've never heard of those brands haha but congrats on the 1kg loss!

@bouceratops - Congratulations! I know exactly what you mean about being stuck, I've been stuck for a couple weeks now so I'm trying to vary up my foods and exercises.

@getterdone86 - You can do it!

@authenticpsychic - Welcome to the group! We're the same height. :)

@kelsterjean - The "official" group weigh-in is on Wednesdays but we'd still love to hear how you've done! Congratulations! You're so close to your goal, I wish I was!

Wow it really seems like everyone is on the right track! Way to go girls  :) As for the girls who gained, don't worry! I'm sure it was just water weight or muscle gain.

I just got back from the grocery store (yay, I finally found a ride!) and I am soo proud of how well I did. Usually I go in and buy beef, chips, cookies, soda, and simple carbs but today I did the exact opposite. I bought ground turkey so I can make turkey lasagna and turkey burgers, low fat cheese, whole grain buns, multigrain 100 cal english muffins, turkey sausage patties (60 cals each), tortilla chips and salsa (low cal snack, as opposed to chips and queso), 100 cal fat free/sugar free jello pudding, and dannon light n' fit 80 cal yogurt... oh and tons of frozen vegetables. I don't think i've ever been this excited in a grocery store!

On a different note, I have a question from my fellow short girls. Do you ever get any criticism from people you know who are of average or above average height, and that are at weights that are double or  even triple our size? For example, I have a close friend who is about 5'9'' and she's around 350 lbs. She's never really tried to lose weight, but I know that she is unhappy with her weight. When she found out I decided to lose weight, she seemed really offended and even said "Why would you want to do that? 130 is really skinny, why would you want to be 110?" I feel like she doesn't understand because to her, 130 probably seems like a low number. But at my height of just barely 5'1'', that is considered overweight. The reason why I asked is because this girl is one of my oldest and closest friends and I don't want to upset her, but then again I feel like I can't share my victories with her or my happiness of just being healthier. So while most people on this site seem to reaching towards goals of 140, 150... because that is appropriate for their height, I am just curious if any of you feel any criticism because we're short and aiming for 100-110lbs or around there.

have you been able to increase your calories? great job this week!

Hello Tina,

I can empathize with the "whys?" from other people regarding your weight loss goals.  A couple of factors come into play in my current situation.

I am about a centimeter below 5 feet, so I know a healthy weight for me would be around the 115-120 mark.  (I am considered to be in the medium-large frame based on my wrist size).  I am currently 134 lbs., but I am really muscular on the top half of my body.  I wear a size 2-4 (depending on the material, cut, etc.), so "average" height people think it's ridiculous for me to lose weight.  Most of the time they "just can't see it".

Interestingly, even at my lowest adult weight (113lb.), I was the same bust size I am at my current weight (a 34D), and people jokingly say, "Your 'extra' 10 pounds are UP there".

In addition, different body types carry weight differently.  I will likely never be under 113 lbs without starving myself, as I have a "boyish" athletic build....For example, some people call themselves "skinny fat"...It's hard for me to identify with that. Muscle builds on me rather quickly (even when I don't want it to).

Lastly, I'd like to add that my husband (as well intentioned as he may be), does not believe I need to lose weight because I weight the same as I did when we met.  However, he isn't realizing that I lost TONS of the muscle mass I had when we met.  My weight is about the same; my body composition is definitely NOT.  So, he's supportive, in a really passive, ho-hum sort of way!

As for your friend, I'd venture to stick with the old adage "misery love company".  If you keep a positive attitude, and she insist on being negative, maybe you can just not go there with there about the weight issue.  Surround your self with people with similar mentalities.  Mental endurance is just a huge component of losing weight.  Moral support is KEY!

Congrats on your awesome changes in your eating habits!  Can't wait to read about your successes in the coming weeks.

On a final note: congrats to all of you ladies who had success on weight day.  To those that didn't see the numbers they wanted, "Fight through it, you can do it!".

OMG YES!! I have friends who say, "you are so skinny....why would you wanna lose weight?" or "why do you wanna go to the gym all the time, you are already fit?".  But to them, ya, I might be thin because I weigh 50 lbs less than them, but im still 15 lbs heavier than I am comfortable with.  I have a girlfriend who I go to the gym with ALL the time, who has no clue what I struggle with, because I don't share any of it with her.  She has no clue that I have been on CC for years, or that I track what I eat and log my exercise.  Even my own Mom doesn't know all of the stuff I go through.  My husband does because I got so depressed when I started gaining the weight.  Some people don't understand that being in the 100 lb range when you're 5 feet tall is normal.  Not ANOREXIC!

Ummm...I'd just like to note that I accidentally sent my last post before I did my editing.  I see a few errors, and it's driving me nuts!

OK....Enough of my anal-retentiveness!  I'm off to grade papers!  Have a great evening, ladies!

Having a great day today: a) I feel like I did well on my morning test,

b) I managed to resist the banana with peanut butter extra addition to my breakfast this morning (the amount of PB I have throughout a day can really add up!), which I feel signifies the start of what food-wise could be a great day,

c) we had a guest speaker today and got to skip the morning tutorial and,

d) for me it's friday... hello weekend! I best not get too excited though. As I said another day, I need to take control of weekends, and not eat carelessly just because it's the weekend.

Tina, yes it is natural some taller people will be shocked by the numbers when they compare them to their own. That's why if I tell people about trying to lose weight (or more when I was first trying to lose) I word it carefully by saying I'm trying to get into shape or get fitter and healthier, instead of saying "I wanna lose ___kg". Unless they're into the concept of BMI etc they're just not gonna understand how big a factor height plays. Don't let your friend's reaction discourage you. Regardless of what height she is, its gotta be hard to imagine someone wanting to be 110 pounds when she's 300-odd.

@tinat2004 - Congratulations on your grocery trip! Haha I know exactly what you mean, it feels good to branch out and buy new things, especially when they're good for you! As for your question, I totally know what you mean. I tell people my goals, etc. and they say things like "What is wrong with you? I would KILL to be in the 120s." but I always immediately bring up BMI to shut them up. I don't even rely heavily on BMI statistics but facts like that usually get people to stop being so negative about it. She might just be extra sensitive because of her weight, and it may make her feel bad that you're doing something to change your body but she isn't. But that is no reason for you to feel bad or guilty! If she can't support you in a healthier lifestyle, then she's not being a good friend, plain and simple.

@joaree - I'm glad you had a good day!

@tina - I know!! It's also been a struggle for me the past 2 years, and I now have to really hide all of my issues.   I have 4 little girls, aged 15, 11, 9 and 7.  My oldest struggles with thinking she is chubby, because she sees me as "skinny" and fit, as she is way bigger than I am.  She also has about 4 or 5 inches on me!! She is not "chubby" by any means, she has a larger frame than I do (from her dad's side of the family), but because she knows how I feel about myself, that has largely impacted her.  So now I hide most of this from my kids.  They know I go to the gym, and they know that I track my calories, but there is no such talk about "dieting" or "trying to lose weight" in our house.  They just think I am trying to eat healthier, which makes them actually think about their eating habits when it comes to junk.  So I try to hide my negative thoughts about my rear end (LOL) and food issues from them, but they are learning to make healthier food choices.  So not having family support for that can be difficlut some days, BUT, it makes me happy that they are learning SOMETHING POSITIVE from me.  At least I have my husband and you guys on CC!

@tina -- YES! People think that I have it made because I'm in the mid 130's but for my height, mid 130s is on the verge of being overweight. It's technically just barely on the upper end of healthy (like 24.9 or something BMI). If I said I wanted to be 115, average to tall people think that's too thin.  Well, they may be right in some ways because I'm very muscular. That is, I actually look about 10 pounds less than I really am. If I am 115, I will probably look 105!

Also, I know what you mean, carlyn, -- I pretty much keep most of my CC activities a complete secret. Nobody knows I'm counting calories. They might see me eating healthier food or not eating as much, but I just don't make a thing of it.

A lot of my water weight from this past week is gone, but I'll be curious to see what happens on Sunday for my official weigh-in.  I've been drinking water like crazy and trying not to eat over (like I did several times last week), but I'll admit, I've been super stressed this week and it's been very tempting to want to binge on fattening foods! Also haven't been able to exercise much at all this week. blah.  First I was sick and then my schedule got out of control and because of the weather, I've barely been able to get in and out of my driveway. Not good motivation to go to the gym!

I just wanted to hve a rant about some dumb@$$ on this website.

There is this guy named Bill (I don't want to put his username, that might cause some problems, but if anyone wants to message me, I will give it to you) and he is an absolute JERK!! Everytime I happen to read a forum message about too little calories or working out too hard, or just someone who would like help with their calories in vs calories out, his reply is always there and he is sooooo NEGATIVE!! I also went to his profile, and he has posted a link that I read....he's also an IDIOT!! Now everytime I read one of his stupid replies, I just want to reach through the computer and strangle that stupid look off his face!!

I wish the moderators would kick his sorry butt off this website, because I can't imagine how is rude & egotistical attitude or his completely incorrect views are helping anyone.  GGGRRRRRRRRR.....why are some people like that??

I'm sorry to hear that you are experiencing this. He's probably "trolling".  If people ignore him enough, he'll probably stop.

My "weight-loss buddy" is driving me insane.  She's not nearly as committed to it as I am.  For example, she's had fast food twice today- and she does this multiple times a week.  While she was eating her burger & fries I was eating a vegetable medley and some grilled chicken. She looks at my meal and has the nerve to tell me that I'm not eating enough calories.  I count my calories every single day and she knows this so it's not like her concern was genuine.  I think she just wanted to justify her choices by putting mine down.  Its like she was trying to tell herself she doesn't have to feel bad about her fast food because if she ate what I was eating then she wouldn't "get enough" calories.  I'm just so irritated because we're supposed to be supporting each other but it seems like if she's not succeeding then she wants me to fail too.  Yell

Thank god I can get my support from CC.

Allergy Remedies
Is It Possible to Go Natural?
The side effects of allergy medications keep some people from using them. Natural remedies can be a great alternative, but some are more effective than others.
