Getting sick has slowed me down!

Quote  |  Reply
Ok. I'm getting really frustrated. I started this life style change 1/24/2012 and was doing so well. When I started I walked about 2-4 miles (or more) 6 days a week and built my way up to jogging 5 miles straight! I've lost 38-40 pounds (keeps going up and down). So April 19th I came down with a horrible cold/fever and it lasted about a week and a half. Then I got two ear infections and one of my ears is still clogged (I went to the doctors and am taking antibiotics). I am just so tired of being sick and not being able to exercise! I still have 25-35 pounds to lose. So my question is... Should I get back into it today and go for a run even though I'm not all the way better yet? What have you done when you get sick? I really thought I'd be better way before now but... I need advice. I'm getting really moody and depressed because I've stopped working out, is this normal?

I got injured in March and then Sick in April, total like 4-5 weeks no or minimal activity. I did walking/cycling after the first week of no activity but stopped strength training cause of my neck injury for like a month and a bit. Then I was down with the flu in bed for about a week then almost 2 weeks waiting for the mucus to get out of my lungs but did some mild walking. I am behind both in weight goals and inch loss goals with these set backs and I am a little annoyed but I have to be kind to my body and just accept set backs :)

I'm sorry to hear about your neck injury. Hope you're feeling better. I think I'm just going to suck it up and go for a run. Wish me luck! I'm going to need it.

Good luck and be safe :)

You may want to start out with a walk if you have been inactive for awhile and ease back into it.  I think we all have times of illness that hold us back.  I had dental surgery in Feb and had to take a week off, then I hurt my back doing deadlifts, twice, and had to take time off for that.  Last month it was a sinus infection.  It's frustrating but you just get thru it and don't let it stop you from getting back to your routine once you are better.  On the other hand, trying to jump back in too soon can set you back farther so go cautiously :)

Thanks for the advise! I don't want to jump back into it too soon and that's way I haven't started again but also don't want to wait too long in fear of getting back to old habits and the weight creeping back up. It's just that I don't know if I'm well enough at this point...never had an ear infect last this long. It's really affecting my mood though and I don't like it. I was feeling so great about life before I got sick and now I just feel so down. I just need to pick myself up again and do it. It's just so hard unslumping yourself. (Any Dr. Seuss fans out there? I love that book, "Oh, the places you'll go".) Sorry, I work with kids :) haha!

That was the gift from our school for our grad class :D I really like dr seuss :)

Dr. Seuss's book are great! I love them!

Congrats on not gaining weight while being inactive! Maintenance is success too.Smile

You're right! I've been really happy about that! (not gaining any back) :) Got my jog in this afternoon and it went pretty well. I did start to get a headache at one point because of the ear pressure but it will get better. So happy I got out finally! Thank you everyone!
