30 Something Newbies - anyone looking for buddies & motivation :)

Quote  |  Reply

Hi there,

Well, I am a pretend Newbie :) I joined a while back (note how I can't even remember when) but did not really make use of this site and never posted or really joined in on discussions... So, now it is New Year's Eve and I am getting ready to move to Australia in a few weeks to start medical school and I need to take better care of myself.

I have been working full time, doing my masters at night full time, just basically running myself ragged and the weight I gained years back is still on me.

I am quitting my job in three weeks and getting on a plane to Sydney and would love to feel a little bit better about myself by then. And hopefully the rest will come off over the months to follow.

Sooo, I am looking for anyone who'd like to join up in some chats & motivation to lose weight and get healthy. I've got 50 + to lose, so I'm in this for a looong run!

My basics are:

Age: 32

Height: 5'6"

Current Weight: 193

Goal Weight: 127 (but this can change)

Hope you all have a great New Years!

Oh and im a guy btw.

I'll cheer you on! You can do it, lex!

Howdy all!

Age: 30

Goal: 140ish

Love it!

Welcome everyone! I hope you're all getting ready for a fun, perhaps also snowy, New Year's Eve :)

jdunckel, thanks for specifying gender, I guess I forgot to mention I'm a chiquita ;)

cece, well done on getting back on track. I like your goal of 140 ish, I think my goal may become an "ish" as well.

sweetsurrender, I love the nickname! and thanks for the good vibes for my move, I think I need them!

I plan on enjoying some wine (and good cheese) tonight (if I didn't eat those two, I'd have lost the weight by now), but got some groceries and stocked up with good foods for the upcoming week.

I am going to try to post something once a day, because otherwise I seem to lose momentum... So, don't mind me if I am chatty, I just like thinking out loud - or in this case- typing to you guys.

I have to try to figure out the right caloric intake since I seem to end up going to low by mistake and then over shoot and give up.

I also have to try to fit exercise back into my life. That's a huge part of it for me. I'll try to get back to the gym in the three weeks coming, and hit the treadmill. Soon, I'll be out of the snow and able to run outside again, though, so I'm kinda hoping that helps.

Ok, off to get ready for NY's eve... Although I have to admit, I could use a little nap at the moment! Hope I make it to midnight :) (slightly pathetic, I know, but it's been a loooong year!)

See you guys in 2010!

I'd love to join you guys as well.

Goal: 195-ish I'll be re-evaluating as I get closer.  Setting a goal weight of 175-180, just seemed like too much when I started.

Since I starting Sept. I have lost about 15 pounds.  I had lost about 18, but then Christmas happened.

I am a substitute teacher, married, & have 2 little girls.  I log on every day (unless we are out of town), and am looking for others who do the same.  Most of the buddies I started out with only lasted a few weeks, which I totally understand: life happens, and it's easy to get off track.

Anyway, off to watch a movie with my husband & kids.  Everyone have a safe & happy New Year!

I'm in -starting anew after eating like a pig over Christmas!

Age: 30

height: 5'3"

goal: 126 ish.

been on here a while but need to get back on track- exercising regularly and not living on chocolate and cheese.

happy new year everyone- here's to a happy and healthy 2010!

Happy New Year!

Hope  you guys are starting out the year off well.  Yesterday, was not good at all as I ate around 3000 calories.  The good thing is that instead of dwelling in the past, I got up this morning and began anew.  I ate moderately and worked out at the gym.   This is one of the key things to permanent weightloss.  We may go off the deep end sometimes like New Year's eve but we must pick ourselves up the next day and continue with healthy behaviors.

As I look back, my regaining the 40lbs I originally lost did not occur because of one day.  It happened because I did the same negative behaviors such as eating 3000 calories over and over and over again so 1 day of splurging became a week or two!

Talk to you all soon and Happy Losing!    BTW, I was at the gym today and just kept visualizing being under 180lbs again.  Let's see when I get there.

Happy Happy everyone!

Hope you had a great New Year's eve! I have no idea how many calories I ate (or drank) yesterday, but it was definitely over any sensible range. But, as you say, cece08, I got up and started anew. (Isn't that a wonderful part of starting a new year?)

I rolled out of bed and went to a mega spa with a couple of friends and worked out, sat in saunas, swam in pools, and just basically regenerated. It was lovely. We ate well (I haven't tallied it up, but it was basically good sushi & salad), and I just made it home, ready to crawl into bed.

I did not realize HOW out of shape I am! I ran a pitiful mile and speed walked another and thought better of doing anymore. Oh boy, this will be interesting...

I am hoping positive changes will stick this time, this year...

Joeyblue79, I completely feel your pain of living on cheese (or rather the pain of trying to cut down/give it up). I'm not a huge chocolate person- I don't have it in the house- but cheese is a whole other matter! Add a good red to it, and I'm h-a-p-p-y...

Alright, day one well done. Looking forward to day 2 :) This is a nice way to start a new year.

Catch you all later!

on the running if your looking to increase your distances i can give you a couple sample workouts.  I recently got out my swiss ball again and im remembering why i love that thing.

alright, I am in too,

I lost some in 2009 and am now 1/2 way back to where I started?

So trying again..

Goal:145 for now

Happy New Year!

I hope everyone's doing well.

As for my New Year, not so good.. got shin splints!Bummer.

@SweetSurrender

Ice and an ace bandage (if it doesnt hurt) and keep the leg elevated.  try swimming if it doesnt hurt.

I had the same thing a few months ago...I was able to jog barefoot for a while (on firm sand) and swim...I am back in my shoes now for winter...

Take it easy and the shin splints will heal!

Hi all.

I have to say, I really don't do well on weekends... Moreso, I don't do well when I have no schedule or structure... Urgh. I am wrapping up my masters, and getting ready for move, and all that, and by the time I hit Sunday I seem to loose my umpf, and the sofa just seems too good to get off of. Maybe I just have a little bit of the blues.

Anywhoo, I didn't make it to the gym yesterday (nor will I today it seems), but I am doing well on food. It definitely helps to have a fridge full of healthy foods though, so here's hoping I can continue to fend for myself when I don't have my own kitchen or fridge for that matter over January and February!

I'm going to try to get over for a run tomorrow, either before work, or just after. (Before usually works best because I'm barely awake and just go on autopilot!)

jdunckel, I'll take any kind of advice on building my distance back up! Send it my way please :)

kmstearns, welcome.. hope you find motivation and support here!

sweetsurrender, definitely 20 minutes on and off for ice and rest. You'll be back at it sooner than later, as painful as it is now...

That's all for now, I nearly forgot to eat lunch today, so I am off to feed myself :)

Hi yall,

sweetsurrender, I would also recommend some bengay or icy hot.  My knees have been hurting lately and that did the trick as well as having advil.

I'm off from exercise after 6 straight days of working out.  Unfortunately, I did not lose any weight this week.  I think I need to modify my calories as I was eating approximately 2100 calories each day and was burning around 500 calories per workout.  I'm going to try for 1800 calories with the same workout routine.

Hi there :) My basics are:

Age: 14

CW: 145

GW: 125

Ive gained a lot of pounds during the holidays and am still hoping to lose them. I might be a little young, but im always looking for buddies to lose weight with :D

My basics are:

Age: 30

CW: 216.2 (Down from 223 on 12/14)

GW: 170

I'm very happy with how I managed during the holidays it was all about minimizing damage and not only did I do that I still lost. To steal from Sinatra if I can make it through December I can make it through anywhere.

The plan: Exercise 4 days on/1 day off followed by 3 days on/1 day off using a variety of exercise technique for muscle confusion. I've also scrapped all my bad munchies and replaced them with fresh fruits and low fat yogurts while turning my apartment into a soda free zone.

HI all...

lexicon: thanks for the welcome!

I made a decent jog out today, but had to walk back...

I find I am eating well until 3-5 pm (1/2 my calories)...

but after that I eat dinner with my partner and eat while watching a movie...(and end up eating maintenance levels not/deficit or loss levels...so then I have to EX more to make a deficit)

what do you guys do to control the pm eating?

Hello all, I am new here.

I got sick of how I was looking and decided it is TIME to MAKE A DIFFERENCE.  I started on Jan 1st.  My lifestyle is generally an inactive one, but I love to hunt and hike, I just can't do much of it now because of my poor health choices.  It is time to loose weight and get back out there hiking.

I am hoping with all of your support and help I can do it.  I started on the 1st with CC and so far so good, I am keeping my Calorie intake down 800 below what I burning everyday.

My biggest problem was getting motivated to stick with a workout.  I am on day 3 of using an eliptical trainer, only 22 minutes a day right now but my goal is for 30 minutes after a week.  It felt great today to get on the eliptical, didn't burn my thighs like it did the first two days.

I am really looking forward to loosing all this weight.

And to answer the question about how to control what your eating, what I have been doing so far is drinking a FULL glass of water before every meal, and for snacks only apples, bananas, carrots, and broccoli.  I threw out any junkfood that I had in the house.

Feel free to add me as a friend, I could use some help with this.

I'm cold-compressing the shins as I type.. thanks, all.
