Hi, Im 138 pounds and only 5'3.
I recently started a diet 2 weeks ago exactly, that consisted of only 700-1000 calories a day. Does that make me in starvation mode?
I never knew about starvation mode or anything, but now that I do I would like to know a HEALTHY amount of calories to eat and to still lose weight.
Also how can I eat that much without shocking my body and gaining weight?
Any thoughts?
My thoughts are that, yes, you are in or close to starvation mode at that number of calories consumed. 700 is absolutely not recommended by anyone who wants you to live and diet and reduce in a healthy manner.
Why not go to Tools in Calorie Count (top right of page) and do some investigating -- type in your height, weight, age, activity level and see what you come up with.
Also, Google for things like:
- How many calories does a person need
- BMR calculators
- BMI calculators
- calorie burn calculators
- what is starvation mode
Remember, you can do harm to your body when trying to lose weight too fast and when consuming too few calories. Go slow, be intelligent, research, and best of luck! Eat and live healthy!
I read somewhere that one should never go below 1200 calories for their intake. So at the minimum, just take in 1200 calories and make sure that those calories come from healthy, natural stuff like maybe adding a banana and an apple to your diet.
I aggree with Shane. 700cals is extremely low and is very likely to damage your body in the long run. Put all your stats on calorie counts. It will take you a minute and you'll have the right amount of calories to eat everyday. Remember a healthy weight loss rate from 0.5 to 2 pounds a week. Doctors recommend to aim for 1% of your current weight (1.3 pound for you). Good luck.
