Stretch marks remain after weight loss...

Quote  |  Reply

Three years ago, I decided that I was extremely unhealthy. I was 19 years old, 5'5 and weighed 250lbs. Mind you, almost none if it was muscle. I've since been following a vegan lifestyle, along with daily short distance bike rides. My current weight sits between 145-150.

I'm proud with my results, except for two things. I've got stretch marks over my entire body, my arms, chest, midsection... You get the idea. It took about two years to lose the weight, which I don't think was too fast, but I've got extra skin as well.
What can I do? I'm 21 years old, if that helps. Thank you.

Stretch marks fade with time, and I believe that I have read that some of the loose skin will tighten up over time.  Don't get too worried about it, pretty much everyone has stretch marks.

Thank you. I've heard that somewhere as well, but then again I've heard that they don't go away. I guess there's this product out there that's called Strivectin (sp?) that's supposed to really help, but it's expensive.

Stretch marks are kinda like scars.  They're always there, but they become massively less noticeable over time.  My oldest stretch marks are now only visible if you really look for them.  (Probably about 4-8 years after I got them, they were my original stretch marks from developing hips)

Some of my more recent stretch marks from gaining weight after high school are mostly gone.  The only ones I that are still completely obvious are the ones I've gotten in the last year.

As a lotion option, if you still have some pink/purple stretch marks: I have used a stretch mark lotion that is available at pretty much any type of pharmacy/grocery store that sells lotions, by Palmer's.  It worked to lessen the appearance of some of my stretch marks, but not all of them.

Bio-oil is a great product for stretch marks. I rubbed it in to scarred/stretch marked areas once or twice a day, and within a month or two all the redness had gone away. ( I do still have faint silvery lines you can see in certain light, but nothing like I had before.) Another thing that helped was vitamin E oil.

I'm another bio-oil fan. I have spent money on other products as i was unsure if bio-oil was worth the price and my goodness it is! My dad is even using it on his op scar and he thinks after one week the scar is looking 100x better! You need to apply it twice a day which i keep forgetting but when you do it works like a charm!

Do these oils and creams work for very aged stretch marks? Most of mine are at a least a decade old.

Thanks!

Allergy Remedies
Is It Possible to Go Natural?
The side effects of allergy medications keep some people from using them. Natural remedies can be a great alternative, but some are more effective than others.
