I totally agree.  If I only at 1200 calories I would STARVE.  With exercise and getting the proper nutrients I have lost nearly 90 lbs eating between 1500 - 1800 calories a day. Even now at my current weight of 145, I sometimes eat more than 1800 calories and I am still losing .5 lb a week.

I must admit the last few days I have ate less than 1200 but only because I have a tendency not to eat when under a lot of stress.  I call those days horrible because I know I need to eat more.

I have my days (but I am def above 1200) but I have some people who eat 1200 or under 1200 most of the time and I really find it really hard to see. I try to drop a line about it but I don't want to come off as a nagger either : /

I noticed this a lot too o_<

People sittin' there in the forums complaining that they are at a plateau and they can't lose weight.. then you see their calorie camp numbers and you're like.. o_o;; uhh... yea, of COURSE you're not gonna lose weight eating such huge deficits.

I know that all those fancy, fake, made for TV trainers are like DO 1,000 calories deficits and eat salads everyday rawrr then you will lose weight blahblah but in all reality, that is unrealistic.. especially for long time weight loss and maintaining..

I know getting larger and larger deficits can be addicting... but what you're really wanting is to lose weight, so why don't you do what will help you lose weight the best? (i.e. not starving your body so it thinks it needs to put on fat).

Same! People eat too little, and a lot of them are complaining that they can't seem to lose the weight, or don't have enough energy... No wonder!

I lost 70 pounds eating 1700 calories a day (sometimes more! sometimes less). I think most people just want to lose weight FAST (I lose that weight over a 10 months period, still pretty fast) and fail to see that it just is not the right thing for their body (and their mental health!)

To be honest, I find the calorie camp really depressing sometimes, and it brings me down. I mean, if you've had a 3000 calorie binge day and have a nutrition score of C- then by all means it's fine to comment on it. But there are way, waaaaaaaaay too many people who have had a 1500 calorie, A- day, sometimes day after day, and post continually about how "bad" they did and how they ate sooooooooo much. I realise that many of us here have issues in our relationship to food and body image, but it still depresses the hell out of me to see endless daily reports all saying the same thing.

edhla - that's why I try to stay positive all the time, especially in my daily reports. Losing weight should not be about punishing yourself!

I try to give myself a hard time so I do better (either better grade or less sodium or less sugar or bigger deficit), I must admit :P (but I wouldn't say I am over dramatic about it or anything) And I find you do get more comments/replies if you are self doubting/having a hard time (not that I do that for comments, I just recently noticed it, my great days I may get a tons of likes and no comments and a bad day lots of comments, I have great supporters :D).

I've noticed this too but I've also noticed that the calorie camp submitted report and my actual calories don't always match. Yesterday I ate around 1500 but the report after I submitted it said 1250 so that may be to blame for some of them. I saw a couple of reports yesterday between 900 and 1100 - that makes me sad

I've noticed the same...and (briefly) wondered what they must be thinking of me?!  I aim for a deficit, so I very often eat more than my recommended 1500-1600 calories per day since I burn a lot through exercise on most days.  I have lost nearly 50 pounds since last summer, & I see no need to starve myself to continue to lose.

I'm think this might also be because a lot of the people on there are either 1. are not being totally truthful because they're afraid of looking bad and 2. they don't exercise at all so their deficit is taken right out of the food they eat so it appears a lot lower to us.

I know I am extremely active... I will always have to eat more than the average person but that doesn't really bother me. I enjoy doing what I do so as long as I know that I'm doing the right thing /shrugs. I wouldn't let their numbers bug you because there's a very good percentage they're doing it wrong and aren't even losing weight..
