any tips on over eating after school/work?
i find that the time of day that i crave and over eat is after school and work. any tips on how to help cure that? i have tried eating a more filling lunch, having a more filling snack, having a lighter snack, i have finally come to the conclusion that im not really hungry. but yet i still have this urge to eat a lot at that time. Is it just a habit? how do i break this because i think this is what is keeping me from reaching my goal. any tips would be great! =] thanks!
I know what you mean, for me its at night. Once it gets late for some reason I tell myself that I'm absolutely starving! When I am most certainly not. Some things that help me (and hopefully you too):
- Don't have the preconceived notion that you are GOING to be hungry at that time. Plan an activity to distract yourself. If you exercise, maybe try planning your workouts for right after work or school so you're occupied during a time that you would normally be having that mental battle.
-If you really are hungry, eat! It's not good to deny your body, and there's nothing wrong with some healthy snacking as long as you're smart about it.
-Drink something. I'm in college, and since I usually get hungry at night, instead of getting some food from the vending machine, I'll get a diet coke (still not that healthy, I know) or make some coffee (there is no such thing as sleep in college). Mentally, I feel like I've filled up on something, and it keeps me going longer because of the caffeine.
I hope these help a little bit!
thanks!! i am for sure going to try those!! thanks!
I'm in college so my classes "end" around lunch time. I have MWF classes that start at 7:45 so I eat breakfast at 7:15 from my car; usually a smoothie with flax, some protein, fruit, milk, and cottage cheese. At 9 I have a snack and I get done at 11:20 by the time I get home it's lunch and I set out what I'm going to eat the night before in one of those laptop lunchboxes and I stick to it. Once a week I allow myself to veg out at either lunch or dinner. At 3 or 4ish after my workout I eat a snack and at 6 I eat dinner; I go to bed around 9 I know sounds impossible for a young person but I get up at 5AM. On TTh I eat breakfast around 8 but it's heartier to last until lunch and then I snack after workout, then dinner. I used to really crave food after class but I learn that well I have a lunch at home; and it will be just as satisfying as junk food. Keep healthy things on you at all times eaisly prepared in the fridge; like peices of fruit, serving of nuts, fresh cut veggies, etc. I did this and it helps so much!
I find if I'm eating, always taking a drink of water after every bit helps me think about what I'm eating and slow down.
It helps me to put myself in an environment with limited food. Take a walk, go swimming, maybe go to the library to study and bring an apple.
Sometimes I get food cravings at night. When I am going to my bedroom for the night I'll bring my water bottle and sometimes a small snack. That way I have everything I need for the night and have no excuse to go poking around the kitchen.
