Trying something a little different 40 pro 35 carb 25 fat

I have done low fat and low carb diets before, but looks like this round I'm going to try out a higher protein diet on my work/workout days.

Has anyone had much experience with this? If so, how did it work out for you?

---background info below---

Just as a quick breakdown, I have oats and protien for breakfast (I picked muscle milk for the extra calories and because it's lactose free), Grilled chicken and veggies for lunch, and more chicken and veggies for dinner. And I have a few servings of peanuts for a snack, and dry cereal (honey nut cheerios). Then I have whey protein before I sleep.

I end up getting 212G of protein, 65G of Fat and 195G of carbs. Protein is pretty much in everything I eat, but technically about 70 grams are from the protein drinks. 150+G of my carbs are slower digesting ones. 30+ grams of fiber, and less then 3,000mg sodium. My calories end up quite a bit lower then my weight loss target o 2300... but I find it hard to plug more into my diet with it being healthy low sodium foods.

I eat similarly, but with a little bit more fat and a little less carbs and protein. My overall daily cals are lower than yours and i usually shoot for 150 protein, 120 carbs and about 70 fat. I've found i am happiest with my diet and tuned in to my body (aware of real hunger cues versus false ones) when I eat this way. My energy throughout the day is even and I don't feel deprived. So yeah, i've had really good experiences eating higher protein.

Looks like a good diet if you workout. Your muscles will love the extra proteins.

I don't know anything about it but my boyfriend drinks protein shakes when he works out wanting to gain muscle... He's been doing it the last couple weeks and has gained about a half inch of muscle everywhere. Lucky me! Lol. =)

His family does a lot of it and they STRONGLY stress that to go on a high protein diet you need to work out hard, push yourself to the limit... Otherwise you'll gain and a girl who works out with his sister is gaining on the same diet as them. She just doesn't work as hard at it.

It does seem to work as long as you're ready to work out so the protein has the proper affect... =) All I really know about it but hopefully it's helpful.

Eating a diet higher in protein will not make you gain weight unless you're eating more calories than you're burning.

Edit: I usually eat around 25% protein, 35% carbs and 40% fat. I don't eat paleo/primal or whatever, it's just how I eat on about a 2,000 calorie diet.

As far as increasing your calorie intake without also increasing sodium, you could do raw nuts, salt-free nut butters (Trader Joe's sells them), avocado, more meat, yogurt, beans, etc.

Do you know of any lower sodium carb sources?

Just asking since my protein already appears to be at a high level, and I already consume over 500 calories worth of peanuts.

Okay well she's gaining cause she's eating the same as them but not exercising as hard... So maybe it's just too many calories if she's not going to work as much. They drink protein shakes though that are packed with things so they work out to hard to burn it off. Not sure if she's doing the same type of thing or not...

I am on a lower carb/ high protien diet (about 1500-1600 cals per day) and am seeing great results. (I am quite active and think that helps. I find this way of eating has significantly lowered my appetite And I've been steadily losing one lb a week. I have just recently started to re-introduce whole grain carbs to my diet and am still losing. I'm loving this method!

I am wanting to lose about 25 pounds...have been trying, half heartedly since the beginning of the year.  I would like to do the low carb/high protien diet.  I think the protien helps you not be as hungry and curbs cravings...any suggestions...I have a major sweet tooth so that is my main problem...lol...well that and Diet Dr. Pepper.  Any meal plans or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  I have already bought a protien powder and I am planning on using the almond milk in it.

Hi I eat a high protein diet , limit the Carbs, fats and sugar to a bare minimum and do Aqua Fit Aerobics wearing shoes, ankle weights and hand weight and have lost 56LBS

in 13 months .

My logic was that if your body has little fat or carbs it will burn fat.  Working out

vigoursly ensures I am using more calories than I consume and I am building muscle or converting my fat into muscle.

I am 51 and have more energy and feel better than I have in 20 years.  Still have 40 LBS to go but wow.  I can see definition I havent seen in many years and muscle mass that I have never had.

I do have a cheat day once a week and really eat whatever I like but watch my calories do not exceed 1500 on that day

Read the book 'Metabolic  Effect Diet".   It is GREAT!   Really talks about how all of the different hormones generated by your body cause it to build muscle/burn fat.   One thing they do say is no whey protein before bed....it causes an insulin release which will cause fat storage.

Ive lost 32 lbs since mid- January! Im now considered to he "normal" weight on the BMI charts but i plan to continue until i weigh what i did after i had my kids. Besides following a high protein (to keep for losing muscle mass), low carb ( to keep from feeling hungry), and 1000 cal to allow me to burn more weight faster ( i log my food). The two biggest factors that have kept me going, though, is the fast, consistant drop on the scale. I went from a tight size 16 to a size 12 since January using resistance exercises and following the advise from the e-book "Eat Stop Eat". He discusses the weight loss research on fasting for 1-2 days a week. I eat breakfast then dont eat until breakfast next day. It sounds radical but this is what our ancestors did from the beginning of time. It works! Its much easier to do than you think! I lose 1- 1 1/2 pounds every time i fast! No plateaus! Steady 2 lbs a week! For an old Baby Boomer with slow meatabolism, i never thought id be thin ever again. I cant wait to buy a new wardrobe in the fall!

Allergy Remedies
Is It Possible to Go Natural?
The side effects of allergy medications keep some people from using them. Natural remedies can be a great alternative, but some are more effective than others.
