I wasn't tricked, but I was stupid. Has this happened to you?
I KNOW to check serving size when looking at calories, but was in a hurry, at the grocery checkout, hungry, and I've been good the past couple of days, so bought a sm bag of Fritos and it said 160 calories.
I was SO FULL, that I knew something was off, so checked the bag, and there were FOUR servings in the bag, so I accidently had 640 calories and they didn't even taste that good.
I've been watching calories for longer than some ppl here have been alive........so how could I have been so stupid today?

You were hungry and in a rush! No big whoop...... just fit in extra walks over the weekend and you'll cancel out those evil fritos. ![]()
cardinal sin -- shopping at the grocery store while hungry...
it happens.
good thing is, you're full!
just eat healthy the rest of the day, and only once you get hungry again
640 is far from destroying your diet.
it happens to all of us :)
You were in a hurry and hungry - it happens. I don't think it was a matter of being stupid. Sometimes things just get by us. Time to think about what might be good to grab when the hunger pangs strike and a good meal is out of the question. Our supermarkets sell single string cheeses, light yogurt smoothies, thin pretzels, yogurts, etc. Those small bags of peanuts, almonds, or cashews would be okay too - but will also have to watch portions and salt. Have I missed the nutrition information or misread it? - you betcha. It happens; I move on.
Hmm... maybe you just wanted to have some Frito's really bad and subconsciously tricked yourself into thinking that it was only 160 calories. ;-)
You ate 640 calories but you intended to eat 160 so the overage was only 480. Not that bad at all.
I know how you feel! My favourite cereal on earth is this cereal that is granola, with dried berries. Knowing it was probably high in calories, I chcked the back, and saw it was only 120 cals. Now, usually cereal is mesured (in servings) as 3/4 cup (or 1 cup). Well, I assumed that it was 3/4 a cup, when really, it was for 1/3 a cup. So I definatley at 360 instead of the 120 i thought. Luckily, I caught my mistake the next day, and haven't eaten so much of it since!
thanks everyone.
What stinks is that there is such wonderful holiday food around, and I would have used those calories for something homemade and delicious, not ordinary junk food.
southcarolinaguy: thanks, 480 over sounds so much better.

Glad to help. :-) Remember you don't have to be perfect, just good. I got to my goal weight despite a lot of screwups. Yeah, it might have delayed my arrival at my goal weight but the mistakes didn't alter the outcome.
Being hungry and making mistakes is the story of my life!
Don't worry if there is one thing I have learned on Calorie Count is that occasional slip-ups are ok, as long as you stay on track generally otherwise. We are human and need treats, even if they don't end up being as satisfying as we think they might be before we indulge. Give yourself a break, it will barely make any difference I am sure and you might find the extra calories gives you a nice little metabolism boost also!
You were stupid today because you're human. Don't fret it, sweat it. Rather than punish yourself mentally, give it a try physically. Go for a walk, do a few push-ups, maybe a couple of bicep curls.. Endorphines promise you'll feel much better about it soon.
when i worked at the bakery, people buying the bagels would always say, "240 calories? that's not bad" but, if they read it closely it was for 1/2 of a bagel so they were eating 480 plus whatever they added to it. never once did i say, "ummm that's for 1/2 of a bagel" guess i should have helped them out a little. i think the store knew they wouldn't sell them if they put the true calorie count on them. kinda like labeling cloths smaller for the sale. or the old 2 for trick. you really don't have to buy 2 to save the money they just want you to buy two.
I wouldn't call that stupid. Perhaps I have gotten use to forgiving myself for mistatkes like that. And some of them a lot more serious like running a yellow light on a bicycle and watching it turn red when I am about half-way across the intersection. I would have made it easily in a car.
I eat a lot of Chex Mix. The serving size is 2/3 of a cup. For a long while I used a big cup so I was actually consuming at least 2 servings. So far it hasn't hurt me. I did get some backlash when I was stuck in a car on my way to my daughter's house with a bag for 6 hours. The bag didn't make it to my daughter's house.

LOL...I am only laughing because I have done the same thing.
Now when I am that hungry I grab fruit. Next time make those fritos an apple. You can check the wt of it right there in the store and start eating. organic garbage is made too instead of a plastic bag. and uhhh...eating fruits and veggies make you sexy.
lol

A few months back I was craving snickers so bad and went to pick up a bar at the check out and so glad I read the label one snicker bar is actually considered 3 servings - ouch!! I quickly put it back on the shelf. I still so want a snicker bar but the calories in those monsters is terrible hehehe
Grab that Snickers and share it with someone you love. <3

dbackerfan: I didn't have anyone to share one with, but have bought a candy bar, ate half, then thrown half away.
They now have 100 Calorie Candy bars. So they are in a smaller portion that won't destroy your diet, as long as you don't eat the whole box ;)
I LOVE 100 cal pks. At least it gives you time to contemplate your action, before reaching for a 2nd pk, and opening it.
