I find for me personally it helps with retention. If I have my 8 + cups a day I don't retain. Which translates to a lower # on the scale, and I'm not as puffy in appearance

you don't need 8 cups a day

It helps me feel full and cuts down on my in between snacking, but I naturally have a low thirst drive so I find it hard to get it in unless I made a concerted effort. I have a bottle at work that holds 3 cups, so I try to drink at least 2 of those before I leave at the end of the day. Then for my last 2 glasses, I try to have it with dinner. I still do badly on the weekends because I'll neglect to carry my bottle with me, but I figure 4 - 5 days was much better than what I had before.

I'll say that at minimum it's also helped my skin a bit - which used to break out often and was pretty dry.

Helps with water retention, I try for 6-8 8oz cups a day but mostly when I workout (to re-hydrate) or am retaining :)

Water is one of the most important things you can do: 1. The right amount of water keeps you hydrated and allows your body to not retain water, so you lose the water weight. 2. Water helps you feel more full during the day.  Often hunger is actually thirst.  Not always, but your body tells you when there is something that you need and a lot of times it is fluid your body craves but is sending signals that get confused.  You know what I mean if you have ever had the experience of sitting down to dinner and reaching for your drink and realizing that is what looks good. 3. Many people do not know if they are dehydrated.  According to my Dr. you are dehydrated if your urine is yellow in color.  Your urine should be close to clear with maybe a little yellow tint.  Any other color and you are dehydrated even if you don't feel like it. 4. Water is great for your skin and drinking more will likely show in your skin, the clarity especially. 5. Drinking water (also info from my doctor) allows you to flush toxins out of your system faster when you are sick or even when there is some "bad guy" in your body.  There is a reason you are told to maintain your fluids when you are sick. Drink that water. Original Post by alicakes:

I read/saw somewhere that the 8 cups a day was misinterpreted and you get a good chunk of those 8 cups from the food you eat.  I drink a massive amount of water each day.  Green tea, black tea, and regular water.  Don't really feel like my skin is better or that it helps with my satiety level.  But I do have very clear urine.

well the 8 cups is also misintepreted bc its based on body weight and the real amt for like a 150 lb woman is 13 cups.
