Weight Loss Drugs To Help Lose the Last 10 Pounds?

Quote  |  Reply

What does everyone think about this? I've lost around 70 pounds but have not been able to lose the last 10. I'm so close to the end of this journey, and would just like to finish so I can begin my maintenance. I've done everything to break this plateau I've been in for over a month... zigzagging my calories, changing my exercise routine, decreasing my calories, increasing my calories, measuring all my food EXACTLY, and I can't get the last 10 to budge.

What do you think about weight loss aids or diet pills like Alli to help lose the last 10 pounds? Is there anything else I can do to get those last pounds to move? I've been doing this for so long, and I'm so worn out. I just want to maintain!

Does anyone have experience with losing the last 10 pounds? With or without diet pills and aids? Any tips?

I tried H57 Hoodia - does not work - and it was very expensive.  Don't waste your money on some of this stuff.

I didn't already lose 70 pounds, but only have 8 to lose and can't shake it either.  Tried low cal - high cal - zig zag.  Exercise - NOTHING!!

Keep us informed if you decide to try it and how it goes.   I heard Ali just makes you sit on the toilet.  It even recommends wearing a pad just in case.

That did not sound good to me!

I don't know anything about weight loss drugs except to say that if a friend asked me about them, I would say don't use them.

If your photo is you, you look like a model and those last pounds that you feel you need to lose actually belong on you.  If you have been exercising a lot, you have built up muscle that weighs more than the fat you used to have.

Congratulations are your successes!

Are you sure you really need to lose ten more pounds?  I'm sort of in that place too- I'm pretty happy with my body after losing 30 pounds-( I'm 5'4" 133 lbs)and I've developed the habits required to make maintaining easy.  I know I could take off 10 more but I ask myself a couple of questions.  How much harder would I have to work out and how much harder would it be to maintain?  Right now, I feel pretty 'normal'.  I can have a burger or an ice cream with my kid and not freak out about it.  But at 123? Oh my god, I'd be a mess! I'd be micro managing diet and exercise constantly.  To heck with that!

I think most diet pills are kind of scary, not really good for mind or body.  And what happens when you stop taking them? You gain 10 pounds.

Try going to maintenance now. It'll give you a rest physically and mentally. Do it for a month without allowing yourself to go under your alotted calories.  If after a month you still want that 10 off go back to diet mode.

Have you tried a natural metabolism booster like green tea or apple cider vinegar?

I'm with all of you, which is why I ask. Diet pills are very scary to me, and I've never ever been willing to risk taking them. I always figured I would gain the weight back right away. But after losing 70 pounds (I'm 5'10" and around 163 pounds now) I just want to get those last 10 pounds off and be done with this. I know what I look like now, and I know where I want to be, and those last 10 pounds mean a lot to me. No, that's not me in my profile picture. That's the bridemaids dress I have to wear in May. I have to give my size and my measurments to my soon-to-be sister in law who's stick thin and conceited about it. I don't want to tell her I'll need a size 10 or 12 in that dress. I want to be a size 8.

Plus, I still have weight to lose around my mid section and thighs. I know where I'm at right now isn't quite as healthy as I could be. I'd like to get to 153 pounds, and at 5'10", I think that puts me right smack in the middle of normal and healthy.

So, I think I will research green tea and apple cider vinegar to see if they may help. And I guess I'll just keep working hard. I've been overweight my entire 25 years of life. Now I'm almost to a point where I don't have to worry about losing. These last 10 pounds mean so much to me, and they're so important in my healthy weight loss journey that has taken me nearly 2 years. I've been working toward this goal of 153 pounds for 2 years. There is no way I'm giving up on that goal now.

If anyone has any other "last 10 pounds" tricks, I'm all ears. Thanks for the advice so far everyone!

Lauren

I started taking 5-htp because I've read that it manages mood as well as helps with weight loss. It helps with the appetite control. You can find at vitamin stores, its a natural herb and with no side effects unlike most weight loss pills. I've also read studies that say its excellent for weight loss. I've heard drinking green tea is also helpful, though I haven't tried it myself. There are people that swear by CLA, and Citrimax is also very popular. Stick with natural if you can, plus its a heck of a lot cheaper.

No trick, but if you've tried all of those things (calorie cycling, etc.) in the last month, you're just not being patient enough. When you're within a healthy BMI range, it is slow going. If you can lose one pound a week you're lucky. You just have to be super vigilent and watch your trend rather than the day to day stuff. I was doing well for about six weeks but I HAD to stay between 1200 & 1300 cals on average. I seem to maintain at about 1500 so that's not a lot of wiggle room --it's crazy easy to accidently slip in a couple hundred cals without realizing it!

Ok, so no doubt about it, you know you want to lose it.  Ok so here it is, my husband used to compete in natural body building contests (and did VERY well I might add) and had to super lean on stage. An hour of intense cardio every single day will burn the fat off. Drink gallons of water, lower your carb intake (including fruit)  and eat lots of veggies and lean protein.  Please only do this for a week at first to see how it feels, this is pretty extreme and not something you want to do for the rest of your life but- it may blast you through this plateau.

Good Luck but be careful -there is the danger of over-training and that can make you feel like hell.  Listen to your body!

Google apple cider vinegar- there are thousands of articles on it.  I call it my magic elixir because it's good for so many things!

5-HTP is not an herb.

It's an amino acid derivative and a serotonin precursor. Your body makes it out of tryptophan, which is found in many foods.

If you are overeating due to depression, it maybe will indirectly help, maybe, but there is no proof. You sound like your appetite control is fine, so don't waste your money.

Everyone says NO for the health reasons, my answer is weirder. I say if you take diet drugs now after all your awesome work you will feel like a cheater.  It's like when an athlete gets caught on steroids everything they ever did in their career gets questioned and it kind of becomes worthless. Even if they just started taking the roids.

Does that make any sense to anyone but crazy me?

yessicazctcs, I agree. I feel like it's cheating too, that's why I haven't touched the stuff. I'm always preaching about "look at me, I lost 70 pounds with healthy eating and exercise. No diets, pills, or surgery!" But lately, it's been so hard to lose this weight that I'm desperate! But thanks for reminding me what I stand for... doing it the healthy and natural way.

Zxenn, Corduroyfirekills3, Chris1208, Inkblue- Thanks so much for all the information! It’s such an overwhelming topic, and just when you think you know all the things to do and all the weight loss products out there, there are 1,000 more that pop up overnight! I do think I’m going to look into apple cider vinegar. Not sure how to use it, if you mix it into things or what, but who knows! At least it’s all natural!

I took a 45 minute intense cycling class today, hoping to burn some extra calories. I’m not sure how many I burned, but I’m eating anywhere from 1200-1300 a day, and should see some kind of results soon. I’ll just keep at it, I’ve come this far. But these last ten pounds, I just DESPISE THEM! It’s like they’re MOCKING ME. My body’s teased me by letting me know I’m capable of amazing things, like dropping 70 pounds. But then it tricks me by not letting me lose those last pesky 10 pounds!

 Crazy metabolism.

I mix Apple cider vinegar - 1 tbsp into a 16 oz of water.... It does taste very strong but I kind of like it.  I ususally have 2 a day.  I give it to my son and husband 1 tbsp into 8 oz of regular apple cider or juice- you can smell it but not taste it.  My 20 yr old step son puts a tbsp in 2 or 4 oz of water and slams it back like a shot.  The acid can be hard on your teeth over time so I always drink plain water afterward.

Get the organic unfiltered kind - it has the most benefits

Theluckiest.Don't do it.Diet pills are the devil. I relied on diet pills for several years, took every kind they had. They make you sick, jittery and mess up your metabolism liver, and heart. It is not even worth it.Yeah they help you lose weight but you feel like **** doing it and eventually gain the weight back unless you take diet pills forever. You look amazing, don't worry those ten pounds will come off in a matter of time the natural way.

Thanks JellyBelly. I guess it's true, there's no quick fix and no easy way. I'll just fight off these last ten pounds like everyone else.

:-) Lauren

hydroxycut works. phenomenally.  it's expensive over time... but if you're just using it to shake the last few pounds, it won't add up too quickly for you!

I see that you are only eating 1200 - 1300 calories a day.  What does CC say your burn is?  I put in a female at 25 years old at 165 and sedentary lifestyle at 5 foot 10 inches and it states 1900 calories a day burn.  The best way to lose those last pounds is to burn them off, don't starve them off.  I would eat more, good foods, much closer to your daily maintenance calories and burn the fat off with exercise.

When you are close to the end, you cannot or should not, keep a big deficit.  Your body will slow it metabolism down.  The more you eat, close to your maintenance, the better your metabolism will burn, and you can do the cardio and lifting to exercise those last pounds off of you.

Tom Venuto talks alot about this - http://www.burnthefat.com/

He's well known and a pioneer in the nutrition and exercise field.  His ideas are also backed up by others who do the same (Karl Baumgart - http://www.thebodcoach.com) as well.

Not crazy at all. I feel the same way about weight loss drugs. Everyone here should be so very proud of themselves for making those very difficult changes. To fall into drugs would feel like giving up to me.

But then at the moment weight loss is relatively easy for me...i still have 129lbs to lose! I can create a deficit by NOT eating 2 cookies every night. I dread the day where my hunger exceeds my calorie allowance. Sealed

I am currently taking a fat burner right now but what I am now doing to lose the last 10lbs is HIIT...It will only take like 20-30min everyother day with either a jump rope, sprinting, or even gym equipment.

Fat burners only help so much the rest is diet, deficit and incorporating a good workout regimen. Best wishes and check out HIIT it is shown to work wonders.

I've tried several different things in the past (about 8 years ago) and then only thing that got skinny on any of them was my wallet.  I am in the same boat as you.  I have 7 pounds to loose and I have been maintaining for months.  Eventually it will come off.  Body is just readjusting and then it will start again.  Hang in there and you will lose it!

Off the subject... where did you get your pictures with your husband? (the two with the wording on it)... I love them!  I was wondering if you did it or if they were professionally done.
Never mind diet pills, stick to buying loose leaf green tea in the store and have a cup, and use some extra chili and cayenne on your food - that's what most of the crap sold as "thermogenic diet pills" actually is.

Good point- that's exactly what these diet pills contain. But also know that to get enough EGCG recommended to lose weight, you should look to about three cups a day.

Allergy Remedies
Is It Possible to Go Natural?
The side effects of allergy medications keep some people from using them. Natural remedies can be a great alternative, but some are more effective than others.
