Why do we weight more at night..?

In the morning I weigh 175 and at night I weigh 180. Which is the "real" weight? Is that water and food from throughout the day??Undecided

Yep, that's you + any food/drink still in your body.  Most people consider their weight first thing in the morning (post-pee-break) to be their "real" weight.

well... you eat and drink during the day, of course everything you put into your body has a weight. if you drink a bottle of water, or have it in your hand when you step on the scale, doesn't make a difference ;)


i'd suggest not to weigh in the evening. do it in the morning, before eating or drinking.

Here's what intresting to me...I weigh myself first thing in the morning and once in a while, I'll be too busy in the am to grab my breakfast early.  On these days, sometimes I'll jump back on the scale right before I eat/drink anything maybe two hours after getting up, just to see (usually on the days I get up really early, like to know what I weight at the same time everyday).  And the scale read a higher weight!  Why could that be?  No shower/food/water/coffee anything yet but the number is already up?!  Yep, I go with my morning weight just b/c it seems more stable and it makes me feel better.  :D

Have you put your clothes on at that point? They weigh something.

You can have anywhere between 3 to 6 pounds in your bowels.

Don't forget water weight. I carry an extra 10 or more pounds because I retain fluids despite the diuretics.

And has been said your clothes have weight, I had to lighten a bag before getting on the train and one shoe was 2.8 lbs, a part of denim shorts 3.2 lbs, at home you should always weigh nude and and at the same time(s).

What you weigh varies 2 to 10 pounds anyway.

The big question is are you gaining muscle and losing inches those are the markers of  successful excercise and diet.

I strip to take my weight.  And the number is up almost a pound some days!  I even tested my scale by jumping on, waiting a min or two and jumping on again, and in that time it stays the same.  I know you can change the reading sometimes based on how you are standing, so I really try to stand on it the same way each time.  I've kept the tempature in my house set the same, place the scale in the same place (I'm a bit ocd, I line it up with particular tiles), I don't know what could cause it.  I really need to stop doing that "just to see" on those days, b/c it drives me nuts to not know the answer!  Everything about me is a bit odd though...guess its just one more oddity about me.  :D

i am EXACTLY like you. i line it up on the specific tile. sometimes i don't believe it so i try to weigh holding different things. when i get ready in the morning i will weigh right when i wake up & then thirty minutes later when i am going to get dressed and they are DIFFERENT. for no apparent reason.

really frustrating. I know the answer is stop being so obsessed and maybe buy a scale without ounces..haha...but i can't stop!

Yeah that's just weird. If you really haven't eaten or drank anything, and you're nekkids both times, and you aren't like undergoing photosynthesis (have you noticed a green hue under your skin?) you really shouldn't possibly weigh more. It has to be the scale. That would drive me nuts too! I'm thinking temperature, like you seem to have thought of. Or humidity? You say you haven't showered, but do you have a roommate that might have? Is there a window in there?

This obviously is not important, as it seems like you know, but what a weird little mystery.

Sorry Alyssia, I seem to have hijacked your post!  No green hue :D , my hubby gets up way later than me, and there is a window in the bathroom...  I'm so glad I'm not the only one who lines the scale up with a particular tile!  LOL.  I have no idea why I do it, I just have to!  The scale without ounces wont help.  Those tend to change based on how you lean and you'll just get obsessed with that if you are like me, dietcoke.  Ah, ocd...what would I do all day without you?
