How much weight is it POSSIBLE to lose in 6 weeks?

Quote  |  Reply

I'm going on a trip mid-february and reeealllly want to lose 15 pounds by then.

I'm 5"6, 154 lbs.

My plan is to do 1 hour of cardio 5-6 days a week, some strength training, and to eat 1400 cal/day, mostly veggies and beans/legumes and tofu.

Thoughts?

generally, what's considered the maximum for safe and sustainable weight loss is 1% of body weight per week.  it's definitely possible to lose more than that, though.  15 pounds in six weeks isn't unreasonable.

this type of goal is a bit of a set-up, though.  typically, one of two things will happen: you'll realize you're not going to make your goal and you'll give up, or you'll make your goal and then immediately start to put the weight back on.  best to focus on the long haul.

thanks - the second option is what usually happens and what I'm concerned about. it doesn't always happent that way for me though.

I just want to lose the most possible without ruining up my metabolism.

If I was you, I'd aim for about 12lbs, 15 does seem a little high, its over 2lbs a week and the pressure might be a bit too much. Besides, is 3-4lbs really going to make that much of a difference? If you do toning exercises, I bet you'll feel better anyway! Good Luck!

PG is right.

I agree with cassie and would try for 2 lbs a week.

I bet you could do it too if you haven't been dieting (or eating that amount and working out) that way already.

Good Luck.

eat ryt look ryt

hi there, its guneet my suggestion to u is that u can lose 6 kgs in 6 weeks itself it totally depends on u , like what kind of diet u take, believe me its only diet which can help all of us. as far as workout is concerned u can go for ::

20 - 25 minutes treadmill (mix with walk & running)

10 minutes cross trainer.

15 - 20 minutes bike.

sides & abs on alternate days

weight training of one body part a day (flexible 4 girls if u dont wana do it leave it its totally ok)

streaching in d last

u must be thinking y to leave weight training, its not that gud 4 girls my gyni told me toneing of body will be done by alot of streaching in the last, u need not do weight training 4 that.

yoga is also a gud option 4 toning body like sun salutation & many more.

ur intake of calories is absolutely f9

take small meals in between

u can lose 1 kg per week

research has showen that even without workout a person can lose weight only by eating ryt if accompanied with exercise that will make u lose weight fast.

like research showed that a person can lose 6 -8 kgs  in a year without exercise ,if that person sticks on ryt diet & do not eat junkfood , pepsi, chocolates, cakes, friedfood & ya tea & coffie also.

gud luck

Seriously, that's ridiculous (beyond the abysmal spelling/typing).

Body part splits are only appropriate for chemically enhanced body builders, not beginners.

Stretching is in NO way a replacement for weight training, and whoever told you that lifting weights was bad for girls is simply an idiot.

Your whole post just makes me weep.

What amethyst said. Guneet, get a clue.

Let's clarify ....

Weight training is good for girls. And I am not talking about little 1lb lifts all of yus gals tend to do (even if you do 50 of them to work up a sweat). As women we are naturally more prone to osteoporosis and this is even more the case for petite women (lack of weight pulling on our bones leads to increased osteoporosis). Therefore as girls we should weight train. We should make an effort to pick up the big boy weights once in a while and let our muscles tug on our bones. Just be careful not to overdo it and get hurt!

Now, to answer to OP's question ... although I am sure you could possibly lose that much weight by then, we cannot and will not be able to support you doing that - as it would likely have to be via unhealthy methods. Using those methods you are likely to yo-yo and probably gain it back as quickly as you lost it. This leads to a life of going up then down then up and quite often this can lead to a frustration and poor body image.

Calorie Count is all about healthy weight loss/weight management, and this means no more than 1% body weight loss per week. For you, this is no more than 1.5 lbs per week which is the equivalent of 9lbs ... that would be an amazing accomplishment and most likely a lasting weight loss ... GO FOR IT!
