Girls: How Much Do You Eat at Dinner?

Quote  |  Reply

My general "rule of thumb" is around 300 for breakfast, 500 for lunch and 700 for dinner.

More or less, depending on the meal/occasion/whatever.

I know lots of people eat medium breakfasts, big lunches and light dinners because of metabolism reasons.

But I grew up with meals getting progressively larger throughout the day, so I still eat that way.

So anyway; my question is what do you girls normally have for dinner?  My mom would always prepare a vegetable, a grain and a protein for every dinner.  She's old-fashioned.

Like I said, I get about 700 calories at dinner and I go on a walk the hour before I start to prepare my dinner; I've read that pre-meal physical activity aids in digestion.  I, like my mother, eat a big helping of veggies, a protein (normally fish or soy protein) and a grain; potatoes count here.

I never really eat that much for dinner.

Breakfast is my biggest meal of the day. I usually have a 2 egg omelet with 2 pieces of buttered whole wheat toast, a glass of orange juice, and maybe a yogurt or a granola bar.

For lunch I usually have a ham and turkey sandwich on whole wheat bread with a bottle of water.

for snacks I'll eat yogurt, an apple, or have some graham crackers with pb & milk.

For dinner, I never really eat that much. It all depends on what my calorie intake for the day has been.  For example today, all I had for dinner was a bottle of water and a pepperoni lean pocket (not the healthiest choice, I know).

I always eat something small, with a higher calorie intake, because I'm never really hungry at the end of the day.

Wow...neither of your guys eat like me. Maybe that's a bad thing (for me)?

Usually, it's breakfast, then a mid-morning snack, then lunch, then a mid-afternoon snack, then a dinner. I get hungry fast, so I just have lots of meals in between. Each meal is generally around 250 calories, and I never plan in a late night snack, but I usually have one anyways, bring my daily total to at least 1500 calories. Honestly, I can get really full on 250 calories - at least until my next meal! I think this plan works for me, rather than the traditional breakfast-lunch-dinner plan, because it equals a faster metabolism for me, and not being hungry throughout the day.

i usually have about 300 for breakfast, 200-300 for lunch, a/b 100 after school, 100 around 5:30 or 6:00, then about 700 for dinner and maybe 100 after dinner.. i mean a/b 200 of my calories come from milk so i'm not eating a ton at dinner, but definitely a lot more than my other meals

I eat a small-ish breakfast, a medium sized lunch and a big dinner. I snack on things as well during the day. I also grew up with my mother making big dinners, and it's definitely stuck. I tend to be not so hungry in the morning, but very hungry in the evening.

Usually by 6pm, the time I decide to have dinner, I've consumed 600. Then I'll have 400ish in meal form and 200-400 in snacks depending on what I've eaten. Recently I've been trying to eat more during the day as opposed to later.

edit: Oh, and as for what I eat, it's usually rice/potatoes/some kind of grain with vegetables, a protein, and a salad. Sometimes I skip out on the protein, or I have one at lunch, or whatever.

I usually eat from 200-500 calories, I don't really eat a big dinner. :)

It's pretty much always a Vegetable, Grain, and mostly a Protein.

Ex. Veggie Burger, Broccoli and a Multigrain roll.

I usually have a very small breakfast at 5.30 am (an apple or a banana, sometimes just a glass of milk), but I have 2 lunches every day - one at school (around 11 am) and one when I get home (somewhere around 4 pm)
So lunch is around 800 calories, depending on what I eat at school (not like I get to chose - they only have 2 menus. A normal and a vegeterian one - and I always pick the vegetarian one)

Since I prefer to have another snack around 5.30 pm my dinner (which I eat around 8pm) tends to be small , kind of like breakfast - usually not over 300-350 calories
It's usually yogurt or milk (with cereal) and some fruit
If I'm still missing some calories I add a slice of bread with diet strawberry jam or something like that

So yeah - lunch is usually the biggest meal for me Smile

I eat 1600 calories a day....4 meals, each at 400 calories.

Breakfast around 8 am.  Something like oatmeal, fruit and coffee

Lunch around 11-11:30 am.  Like a sandwich and fruit or 100 calorie pack of something.

Mid-day meal around 2 pm.  Something like slim-fast and granola bar or fruit

Dinner around 5:30 pm.  Sushi, salad, a smart one's frozen dinner, homemade vegan burritos with rice and beans and veggies, or a yummy veggie and rice dish....whatever

At dinner I eat more veggies and fruit than anything else.  That way I can eat a little bit more, without feeling hungry later on.  Of course I switch it up everyday.  I have found this the most effective in my weight lose endeavors.  I'm never really hungry, since I'm eating about every three hours, and I choose filling foods.  Most of the time during my mid-day meal I don't eat 400 calories, so by the end of the day I'm actually under my intake (which is fine with me), or I allow myself a little treat :)

My goal is 1400 a day, but some days i eat about 50 or 100 over because im bad like that.

I'm only trying to lose 5 lbs max, so i figure i can be lenient! (lol)

I eat from 250-500 at breakfast (No Kidding!!). Lol. Mostly I try and have 300-350 and make sure it's filling (For example, mixing bran cereal and oats.) The days i eat 500, im usually not satisfied, lol, cuz i eat cereal, then want toast, so it adds up.

I usually have a sandwich (300ish) or salad (150-200ish). So I can eat a good snack later, around 200-250 cals.

Dinner ranges. I try and eat around 400-500 in one meal, and have a snack later because it doesn't bloat me so much.

I eat 1800-2000 calories. I'm pretty much like you. XD Starts small, ends big.

My dinners don't exceed 750 calories. The meals during the day (I suppose they're more so "snacks") don't exceed 270 calories. If it's more or less at the end of the day, and I still need to eat more calories, I spend it on something uber yummy. :3 That's one thing I like about my system, it's like budgeting. If you got a little extra cash left that you didn't need to use earlier on but you gotta spend said cash, you can spend it on something you want instead of what you need. Keeps me from feeling deprived, methinks.

I tried eating a big breakfast + medium lunch + small dinner once.. I couldn't sleep, and the big breakfast made me anxious about dinner because if I don't eat a fairly large dinner, I'm hungry all night and I cannot sleep. Plus I always exercise at night and I become hungry after exercise.

I want to try the 300-500-700 calorie plan. For those who are on it, do you get hungry between meals?

i usually eat 250-400 for dinner, but then i always snack like a fiend afterwards. for some reason, i have this mind set that i need to save a ton of calories for the end of the day, but i always end up stuffing myself at night to reach a good amount of calories.

I have HUUUUGE breakfasts--okay, not THAT big, lol, but bigger than my dinner for sure. My breakfasts consist of about 400-600 calories usually, and I usually rack up to 1000-1100 calories by 2pm [I get out of school at 12. aah the joys of being a senior (: ]. Then, I snack until dinner and sometimes after.. typically my dinner is no more than 400-ish calories. Totally the opposite of a lot of people on here :p

i start eat light, end big for dinner.

breakfast is just some yogurt and cereal, around 150cals, then lunch which is just a sandwich, around 200cals, i eat dinner around 7-8 hours after lunch so i sneak in some snacks, around 100+cals. dinner i eat a big 500cals plus 200cals of fruits  so total of 700. trying to eat more snacks to max cals but i just hate eating when im not hungry. so by the end at night, i eat loads of candies (:

My breakfasts range from 300-600, depending on if we have anything good in the kitchen. Then for lunch it's around 400-500, and dinner 500-700. I also eat TONS of snacks (fruit, cereal, bread, or candy:) throughout the day because I get hungry very quickly, and end up with at least 2000 total.

So dinner is typically my biggest meal. My mom's a great cook, so I enjoy all of her wonderful food!

breakfast is always a rush for me so usually about 150 cals

Then a snack (around 50 cals) at 11ish

Then a good lunch (400ish)

Then another snack probably 100 or summit

Then dinner (300 - 400)

probably another 100 after this too so i guess most after about 4pm

My breakfasts are usually 300-400 cal...lunches would be around 400-500, dinners about 600. I'll eat more though if I know I've missed out on some calories during the day. And I also have a couple of snacks throughout the day, mostly fruit. I try to eat about 1800 cals per day.

Wow, you guys eat practically nothing. If I don't eat 3000kcal , I can't even function! To walk around campus, attend class, study, work etc. I need a lot of energy. I graze though - the only main meal that I sit down to eat is dinner. Usually i'm just grabbing bagels to take to school, fruit, 1-2 luna bars, and coffee with eggnog in it. I might grab some stuff while i'm on campus - a meal, and some snacks, of course more coffee. Sometimes i'll grab candy or chocolate (i'm not the healthiest eater haha!)

Come home and eat dinner, and i'll usually drink a mocca or hot chocolate in the evening with a bag of popcorn. Sometimes i'll have more fruit or a danish/toast later if i'm up late.

On days where I have soccer, I up my carbs and proteins. My intake isn't very structured though - I just eat when i'm hungry!
