Gradually Eating More Calories?

Quote  |  Reply
I'm 15, 5'7", and I weigh 128 lbs. I started out in January at 138, and I've been eating about 1000-1200 calories a day....I run and do circuit training immediatlely following each other 5-7 times a week. I've decided to up my calorie intake to about 1300, but I'm afraid I will gain weight. I want to gradually increase to 1500, I'm just terrified of gaining back the weight that I've worked so hard to lose!!! Is it still possible to lose weight at that number of calories? Will I gain weight at first? HELP

Sorry but 1500 calories is no where near enough. Its okay if you go somewhat slowly but you HAVE to get up to at least 2000 (ideally like 2200++). Eating any less than that and exercising as much as you do is absolutely killing your body!

It makes me so sad that so many young girls are hurting themselves so badly by under-eating... and most of them don't even seem to be aware of all the harm they're doing.

abbymarie, you need to eat much, much more.  The least you should have ever tried to LOSE on would have been 1500.  Your maintenance should be around 2000-2500 calories.  You need to get up to those calories as quickly as possibly.  Every day you keep eating so little, you're damaging your body and your metabolism.  And a damaged metabolism makes you gain weight on low calories.

You may gain the weight back because of your damaged metabolism, but if you keep eating 2000-2500, it will stop and you will maintain.  Then you can start over and lose weight  the RIGHT way (absolute minimum of 1500 calories, but probably more like 1700.)  Then you will preserve your metabolism and can go back up to 2000-2500 calories to maintain your goal weight.

Sound good?  Ready, set, go.  Don't hesitate--make changes TODAY!!
