5'7" 121lbs Looking for a buddy :)
Hi I'm 21, 5'7" and 121lbs. Anyone similar want to be buddy's?
Reason: Member already at low healthy BMI -- further encouragement to lose would be unhealthy
Hi,
What are your aims? Your BMI is 18.9, so weight loss is out of the question - are you hoping to maintain/gain/get 'fit'?
As thin as you are now, you should work on gaining muscle. BMI has high specificity but low sensitivity.
This means that most of the people with an overweight BMI are overweight, but many of the people with a healthy BMI are overfat-their body fat makes them overweight or obese even though they're a healthy weight . If you are overfat, then you should work on gaining muscle instead of losing fat. Losing weight at your weight will increase your risk for osteoporosis and malnutrition.
Get to a gym, lift heavy and eat at a small surplus. Once you put on some muscle, you can then think about losing fat.

I don't pay much attention to BMI, and I do want to lose some weight, but thanks for the concern.
I'm sorry, but this website won't support people with an unhealthy weight loss goal below BMI 18.5. Sadly, there are sites out there that will, but this isn't it.
Tone up by all means, but be prepared to get any weight loss threads you post locked.

I'm not promoting unhealthy weight loss. Do you always attack people? I'm looking for a buddy not someone to attack me. I was in hospital not long ago for abdominal problems and they weigh me every time and say I'm a healthy weight, so loosing some vanity pounds is not promoting unhealthy weight loss.
Honey, I'm not attacking you - If I can help to persuade a healthy girl NOT to lose weight when she doesn't need to, I'll be the best 'buddy' you ever had...
I repeat, losing 'vanity pounds' at a BMI of 18.9 is unhealthy. Sorry you don't like this, but it is the truth.
Healthy means healthy, not chubby.
Underweight is the skinny equivalent of overweight, and it's no more attractive, healthy, or beautiful.
Don't lose weight. Change your perspective.
If you gain muscle, you will probably gain a few pounds instead of lose. You don't sound like you're really trying to lose, and I think a few people are getting (for lack of a better term) butt-hurt because of the title of this thread. It's perfectly fine to tone up at your height, but as others have said, I think it would be a very bad idea to lose weight right now. That's my contribution to this.
Hi I'm not as tall as you but I also want to lose weight and gain it back in muscle! And my BMI is lower so don't mind the BMI at all...
I think we should do weight training and intensity workouts along with cardio so we don't get too buff. What's your plan?

Hi I'm shorter than you are, but I am even more underweight. Let's ignore all of the relevant health advice, lose even more weight so we can increase our risk of osteoporosis and malnutrition, and then try to gain muscle, even though our brittle bones and starved bodies will probably break under the pressure. We'll do it together and be twins.
Great idea.

Yeah, isn't it? My friend and I did this a college, and guess what? I won!! I lost more weight than my friend, and woke up in hospital on a drip, having collapsed in the canteen over my black coffee. I even got kicked out of university and wasted an entire degree course...
