do your parents eat like you?
i try to eat as healthy and clean as possible, with a few exceptions.. while my mom regularly indulges in jam, chocolate, wine (only like 1 glass a day), high-sodium soup, pancakes, french toast, angus burgers and tons of other unhealthy things (while being 5'4" and weighing 112 lbs - how is that fair?).
for all those REALLY healthy eaters out there (veggies, vegans, clean eaters, etc).. do your parents follow your example? have their eating habits changed since you started to eat healthier and become more health conscious?
I eat completely different then my family. I'm like the only one that eats fruit on a daily bases other than my brother. I don't eat junk food while parents do.
I live with my grandparents and they think I'm nuts for eating healthy!
They eat a lot of fast food and fried chicken and premade meatloaf lol
So, naturally, I have to grocery shop for myself
My mom cooks more healthy than most people, I would guess, but that's not saying much. Typical meals like rice (white) with chicken bits, spaghetti with meat sauce, chili with beef, steaks now and then, grilled chicken. Better than the average American meals, but bad by us CC standards. :P
for mother's day i'm making my mom french toast (with syrup and icing sugar) and an omelet with tons of cheese, just the way she likes it. :S
My mom barely eats anything, and its mainly rice and vegetables. she occasionally binges out on cakes and cream and stuff and then eats next to nothing for the next 3 days. She suggested thats what I do, but then my dad flipped out.
Me, my mom and sister are all veggies whilst my dad still eats meat and fish etc. No one in my family is overweight, and my sister is stick-thin, and my dad is obsessed with exercise so he is quite slim. I dont'really follow their example with food apart from I eat a lot of veggies.
my mom cooks pretty well i guess. she uses whole grain pasta, reduced-fat dairy, lean meats, etc. but so far i've been unsuccessful with converting any family members to veg*nism. they all tolerate me and accomodate me (they let me make tofu dishes and leave cheese out of alot of stuff) but that's it. my grandparents/other relatives are worse though.. they're always bringing it up or asking me annoying questions.
For the most part I'm a healthy eater, I rarely eat junk food now, except when I give in and binge, but I'm working on stopping that =) I'd like to become a vegitarian, I've tried before, but it never seems to work, eventually I think I will though, I find it so horrible that I'm eating a poor little animal. My parents on the other hand, are probably some of the worst eaters on the planet, junk food, cookies, chocolate, sugar, fast food, all on a daily basis. It's quite disgusting, but they've slowly changed a little bit since I,ve been trying to eat healtht, I've convinced then to get a bit less fast food, and buy more fruits/veggies while grocery shopping, it's a start =) My mom is very overweight, and she's kind of given up on trying to get back in shape, I've been trying to get her motivated but she's to stubborn to listen to me. It's just really hard sometimes though cause there's ALWAYS junk food in the house which makes me crave it a lot, I wish I could just throw it all out.
my family are clueless about health, but are always asking me questions.
my mom bought these mini coffee-crisp bars that were only 80 calories a bar and my mom says "what do 80 calories even mean?"
and there's also my mom's famous "milk doesn't have calories" and my cousins "i ate half of a chocolate cake yesterday, but it was organic so it's good for you"
lolllll.

Lmfao, that's halarious, my isn't quite that clueless about nutrition, but pretty close.
My dad on the other hand is very very healthy, no junk food allowed in the house, unfortunatly I don't live with him.
my parents are not very healthy eaters, but theyre not pigs either. me and my sister are basically the only ones in our family who, i guess, try to eat healthily. i try to influence my parents kinda into a healthier lifestyle, but ehh it doesn't really have an affect most of the time haha.
nope, they basically all eat whatever they want.
my dad's very overweight and eats tons and tons of meat. he'll sit in the kitchen at dinner and have like a gazillion servings of stuff.
my mom isn't thin by any means, maybe a little above average. she usually cooks but she doesn't pay attention to the nutrition (although she used to but i think she gave up). i don't eat what she cooks and i shop for my own groceries.
my sister, on the other hand, is stick thin (size double 0) and eats whatever she wants. chips, cake, whatever. it's lame as hell.
i'm the only one who really sets boundaries, like the times i eat (which helps me control my eating a lot) and the portion sizes. they all think i'm crazy, which is funny because i used to be the one who overate the most.
I usually cook dinner when I'm home and my parents like what I make. My mom usually eats the same and my dad will eat like twice as much, but I'm sure he needs it because he's tall and a man. Sometimes if I make something vegetarian, he'll make himself something extra, because he has to have meat! My whole family eats pretty well, but they don't count calories or anything like that. No one's ever had any weight problems so they don't need to. And I can totally relate erica! My mom's like 5'8" an 120 pounds and eats basically what she wants.
Actually my mom is the one who taught me how to eat healthy. My whole family has been trying to lose weight, but not all of them eat the healthy food they need to lose the weight. But my mom does do the grocery shopping and she keeps healthy food on hand for anyone who wants to start eating better. She always keeps the fridge stocked with fruit, just for me.
yesterday, i made a homemade lasagna for mother's day and invited my family over to grub.
as the meat was cooking, my mom says, "what kind of meat is that?" i said, "ground turkey." she said, "i KNEW it." (as if she was disgusted.)
it kills me. first of all, ground turkey tastes JUST like ground beef when it's seasoned and it's a LOT healthier. why would you want to eat something that you KNOW is unhealthy?
nobody i know eats like i do. i rarely indulge in fats, sweets, cakes, etc. most of the people i know eat all of those things on a daily basis.
people tell me "i'm crazy" because i eat fruit, veggies, multi-grains, and very little meat. these same people are like 50-80 lbs overweight and leaving the drive-thru with a burger and fries, trying to figure out why they can't lose weight when they exercise for 30 minutes everyday.
it doesn't discourage me. i just keep in mind that i'm going to be a lot healthier than most in my years to come...and we won't even address the state of my body vs. theirs.
sneakafreaka: you need some fat and protein in your diet and it doesn't have to be from meat, either. there are eggs, nuts, nut butters, tofu, beas, lentils and other healthy ways.
my mom is pretty supportive in my healthy lifestyle, but she rarely follows my examples.
my mom is usually healthy, although eats a lot of white (e.g. bagels). But overall she has good habits. Although, she really has no conception of calories and doesnt care about her weight (not tht she has to shes 5'3 and 103 lbs..so small!).
My dad is overweight, he eats irregularly because he has a very very demanding job with long hours and he travels a lot. He tries, but cavess in often.
My sister-well she eats A LOT and W/E she wants. Not healthy at all and kinda of nonsupporting of the way I try to be healthy.
My dad used to be very healthy, probably because e had heart surgery, but since then, things have gone down hill.
I'm the only healthy eater in my house and I'm constantly surrounded by junk food. One thing I did do, was ask if I could make dinner at least one night a week. The first night I did this, I made 'mexican rice' by using grated cauliflower. I got some pretty mean remarks about how they didn't think it could taste good, but they liked it.
It's frustrating sometimes, but fortunately, we have an overabundance of refrigerators so the one in the garage is where I store my food, because I do a lot of shopping for just me.
My older sister has started to get into the healthy stuff, so we talk about it a lot and I try to give advice. It's nice that at least someone in my family doesn't stuff their face with greasy potato chips, fried chicken and gummy bears for a meal.
My mom has been eating quite healthy these days but not because of me.. it's because of her boyfriend who now lives with us..
Creepy guy, cooks Chicken feet...eeeeekkk
My mum exercises a lot but she does tend to eat a lot of chocolate, crisps and fatty things. My dad can be even worse, since he doesn't exercise as much as she does. But to be honest, the meals themselves we eat are pretty healthy, and if it isn't, I just make my own.
I think it would be a lot easier to eat healthy if that was all my mum made, since sometimes if I've had a long day I'll just take whatever she's made regardless. But then again, I suppose that's just me being lazy. ![]()
Oh dear. My mom's the exact opposite of me. She doesn't eat junk, but she eats fatty foods, lots of simple carbs, etc. She's also kinda overweight. She's also critical of what I eat, and often adds stuff to cooked food without telling me about it (putting olive oil on fresh sliced vegetables, cheese on the baked fish...). It's really frustrating, so I pretty much just cook for myself now, but she still often makes comments that irk me. Well... excuse me for being in excellent health.
Haha, I love my mom anyway though. She's a great person, but I think she can't quite accept my healthy lifestyle...
The side effects of allergy medications keep some people from using them. Natural remedies can be a great alternative, but some are more effective than others.
