seriously though how many calories can I eat?

I'm 15 years old, medium frame, ~138 lbs, I walk/run usually 36 1/2 miles per week, sometimes a little less. I want to know how many calories I should legit be eating because I got sucky advice to eat 2500-3000 and I gained from 130 to 175 in like 2 months. I just got finished losing that weight and I've been eating about 1500 calories a day. I used to eat like 1750 calories a day and run a little bit less, do you think going back to that would make me gain weight? I just want to maintain :/

If you gained 45lbs in 2 months, there's something wrong with your metabolism.  Even if you maintained at 2000, you shouldn't have gained more that 8-16lbs during that span of time.  Maybe you should have your thyroid tested.

Can my doctor do that? I have an appointment on oct 17

Hi Megann.

I looked back through your other posts you've made and commented on.

I have never personally had an eating disorder. But I know that once you start binging and purging your system doesn't register the food properly.

I have heard of one girl purging a sammich that she ate the day before! Pretty much in tact. Whether this is true or not, no idea.

Its possible you could have ruined your metabolism for a very long time, maybe even permanently.

I do think that 1500 calories a day is not enough for a young woman who is in healthy shape, doing school gym and running.

I would suggest help for it if you haven't been to it already. See a dietitian. Also see someone about your thyroid.

I've never binged or purged

Oh, sorry Megann. I must have read something wrong. Still with Anorexia you can harm your metabolism just the same.

Improud of you for overcoming that.

My guess is the reason you went to such a high weight was because you was JUST overcoming Anorexia and your metabolism was so slow. that and combined with 3K calories daily. Seems like you have something working for you now though. So keep what your doing. Eat healthy.

I think 1500 calories will be too little amount to maintain your weight healhily. With all your running and being only 15. Your still growing and you need the nutrition.

I Would add in your strength training a few days a week. This will build muscle. You wont get bulky if you do low weights at more reps. The more muscle you have the faster your metabolism is. I'm doubting you have much muscle due to the anorexia.

Lifting low weight doesn't give you muscle. Lifting heavy weights doesn't make you bulky.  You shouldn't do either unless you have a clean bill of health.  I don't know if a general doctor can do the right tests, but your doc can refer you to a specialist who can.

I do agree. 1500 calories is not enough for a 15 year old girl who runs 36 miles / week.  I used a calorie calculator tool and based on your age, height (I guessed average height of 5'5''),weight and amount you exercise your cals should be more of around 2100 to 2185 calories to maintain.

But if my metabolism is damaged then won't increasing my calories or decreasing my exercise make me gain weight?

I just feel like its a lost cause at this point because I've dug myself so deep into this hole that ill never be able to maintain a good body weight while being able to eat the way I want to. It's extremely depressing sometimes.

Not All Processed Foods Are Created Equal
Fact: a diet containing whole, fresh fruits and vegetables is one of the best for a healthy mind and body. Although true, it can be hard to keep food fresh at home for longer periods of time, and if you have no time to shop every few days, boxed and canned foods become appealing. We often hear about heavily processed frozen dinners and processed foods worth avoiding, but there are minimally processed foods that do pack a lot of nutrition and may be worth having in the fridge or cupboard.
