I found something better than TUNA!
OCTOPUS!!
100g (raw) = 83cal :D
I know it looks scary, but it tastes great!
You can buy them from the fish shop already "cleaned", and all you have to do is chop them up and toss them in a pan with some salt and pepper and a touch of lemon!
And, you can have it cold in salads, and bring it to work/school without people walking away from you because of the smell. lol
i'm in love with my new slimey, tentacled mistress :P
LOL Did you mean squid or actual octopus? O.o
Isn't it the same?
Here in Aus, we call it "baby octopus" Lol
But, trust me to use the wrong terminology, haha.
If i went to the fish shop alone, i'd probably end up buying a sting-ray, or something to that effect. :P
I don't know for sure if octopus is sold in fish shops/groceries LOL... anyways, probably squid yeah? Like calamari? I love that stuff... even if I have the occassional deep fried one I don't feel too guilty. ;o) I almost always have it grilled though.
Don't know about sting rays har har but my favourite fish are salmon and mahi-mahi. :D
It doesn't look like calamari though... It's purple and has tentilces with little suction cups (hahaha, appetising ay?)
lol this sounds disgusting but i bet it tastes great
i dont know how id feel about the texture ..does it taste slimy?
Oh Yes! I absolutely love it! And squid. But I wouldn't give up Tuna. Totally different tastes.
It could actually be octopus.
Octopus is not entirely rare as a seafood. I know I've had it.
But of course the description could be used 'loosely' as well. Kind of like how a lot of restaurants serve "scallops" but in reality its actually eel.
I just had it for lunch yesterday. I bought some sashimi quality at a local market. It tastes awesome with wassabi and soy sauce. :) I also have a giant squid in the fridge that I was planning on cooking today for dinner. I love seafood, specially fresh one!
UD
You can buy octopus. They even have it canned here.

The texture is rubbery, similar to squid.
If it's rubber band rubbery you're cooking it wrong!
Or it isn't fresh.
Octopus rocks my life! I LOVE it slathered in olive oil an thrown on the grill and then topped with olive tapenade & paprika!!! AMAZING!!! The tentacles get all crunchy! MMM MMM Good!!!

There really are baby octopi. (To ppl who are doubting) Calamari is more common, but my friend ordered octopus salad at a japanese place near us and they gave her two WHOLE BABIES. Like, head to tentacles. Gross! (cold and slimy. Cooked they are GREAT and taste just like calamari.)

..........what? What?? I think I'd know the difference between scallops and eel.... they are completely different textures. I've never had eel without that sweet sauce they use in sushi places, but I can tell if scallops are bay, ocean, or have certain preservatives in them just by taste. I have never come across eel masquerading as scallop, but then I live near the ocean so maybe they know they can't pull that you-know-what.
Ive eaten it at mexican seafood restaurant Vuelve a la Vida ("come back to life soup"),with oysters, snapper, scallops, shrimp after being sick that's the best octopus i ever had!!!
I'm surprised that so few people have eaten baby octopus before. I eat normal octopus, baby octopus and squid on a fairly regular basis. Calamari refers to eating only the squid rings made from the body sac, not the whole squid (tentacles and all).
And I agree with #11 - if it tastes rubbery, you've overcooked it.
eeeewwww. Im sorry I just cant help but say eeeww. I have tried it all and a friend of mine says I have a texture deficiency. I like the taste but the texture is horrible. Im glad to see you found something you can enjoy.
