So here I am, back on CC for another bout at the weight loss. Two years ago I was able to lose about 15 pounds bringing me to a weight that I was comfortable with until a stressful summer of class and binging happened and my semester abroad in Venezuela didn't help either. Although I'm a vegetarian, I have quite the sweet tooth and I battle with it constantly. I've been dieting since May 17th and have only binged twice, until this week, of course. Starting Sunday and (hopefully) ending tonight, I have binged to the point of exhaustion and pain. Now I have this pain stretching across my chest and it hurts to breathe, all because of this stupid binging problem that I have. Well, enough is enough and I need to get back on the wagon because everytime I get off, it gets harder and harder to get back on. Does anybody have any tips for me in order to survive the next coupld of days to getting back to eating less calories and cutting the bloat. Just a reminder that I have a wedding to attend with my boyfriend this weekend- loaded with cake and alcohol.
dont worry, you can get back on track.. you have done it before! I too suffer from binging, its a horrible painful thing to go through.
since you will feel very bloated, drink alot of water! i know you would think not to but it actually helps get rid of the bloat! try to stay away from excess sodium because that will help also.. good luck!
Have you tried checking out low glycemic foods? I spent quite a while studying South Beach Diet and really wanted to know HOW low glycemic foods worked, how my body would react, etc. It was worth the education. Eating these foods will reduce your cravings for sweets and carbs in a big way, I encourage you to try it. Good luck.
As a vegetarian I would make sure you get the proper amount of fats and protein in your diet. I've struggled with binge eating (especially with the sweets) and once I made sure I had enough protein and good fats the urge to binge decreased and then I was able to look at the emotional aspect.
Good sources of proteins: beans, tofu, nuts, seeds, nut butters, some cereals, dairy
Healthy fats: nuts, nut butters, EVOO, pumpkin and sesame seeds, avocado, olives
I'm sure you'll get back on track in no time. Just get right back up and get right back to taking care of your body. You can do it!
Hey, we feel your pain! Binging us a very traumatic thing to go through - but you have come on here and written everything down, which shows that you know what you have done wrong, and have a strong desire to change things.
Coming on here and writing your goals down shows your strong desire to change things - you have not brushed things aside. Writing it down shows you are aware of the problem - you have not ignored it, you obviously want to be proactive about it. Well done!
I am up at 2 am because I over ate chocolate. Not binged - my binges have turned into allowing myself to just sit there and over eat - not the best but better then an out of control binge.
We can do it! Lets take one day at a time!
Thanks for the support, the words are very comforting. This time around I have my boyfriend to confide in and that alone has helped enormously. Last time I didn't talk to anyone about my binging problem and it just kept continuously getting worse.
runningbuns- Thanks for the advice. I do know that I need more protein in my diet since I haven't eaten red meat for a few years now, however, I don't keep nuts and things that aren't individually packaged in my house, otherwise I tend to overeat. Not having them in the house helps to overcome that urge of binging especially considering they're so dense in calories. I do eat lots of beans, nut butter (Naturally More is fabulous!) and dairy.
mykanosdelight- I sort of dabbled in the South Beach Diet and know about low glycemic foods, but I figured it wasn't something I was going to try. Perhaps I look a little bit deeper into it and let you know.
Thanks again!! You all have been helpful.
