What the hell, right?  Instead of a goal of losing a certain amount, I wanted to try supporting for time, not a number.  Try a short term goal based on shaping behavior, not necessarily specific results.  

(That being said, I'm aiming for a pound every three or four days.)

Me, today:  6 ft 1 / Currently: 203 Pounds / Goal Weight: 185 Pounds

Who wants to ride out a month together?

Weigh ins on Monday and Thursday mornings?  Starting Monday April 14th and ending on Monday, May 12th?

Okay!  We are good to go!  I'll start us off with the caveat that I'll edit my weigh in tomorrow morning when I get up.  It could be higher, courtesy of my little hot dog debacle earlier today.

Our group includes:

And now, my stuff:

     Day 1 Weigh-In:  Monday, April 14th

     Marmel13:  203.5 pounds  (I gained a half pound over night.  WTF?)

Game plan for today:

Not drink at work.  KIDDING!

Workout:   Up at 6:45 for today's weigh in. 

Then, off to the gym for half hour of 4.0 mile per hour treadmill, then half hour of basic health club workout with a trainer.  Estimate for that, I can add 450 calories to the burn total, which gives me 2800 calories to subtract from today.

Will aim for between 1600 and 1900 calories in.

Challanges for me, today:

Up early for work out and work, always adds the time and space for an extra meal.  Am writing in a room with other people, which means snacks everywhere.  Plus, then I go into an editing bay for four hours - with nothing but crackers and crap to eat.

Need to remember to drink water, not soda and not eat crap, just because I'm bored.

Random question...

I have dinner with a friend tomorrow at a Thai restaurant.  Any suggestions as to what I should order?  I plan on eating a light salad for lunch to save on some calories.

I look at it every day, and I don't understand what that number means.  Is that the number of calories estimated that I burn every day? Which means I don't want my calorie number to be higher than my burn meter number, correct?


But there's also the number in smaller font above the Burn Meter? "Estimated Burn Meter"...I just have a tendency to ignore that box because I have no idea what it is supposed to do for me lol.

Well, this is my understanding of it, but I could be completely wrong.

My burn meter - the calories that I burn just by not being dead, is 2350 per day.  From that, you subtract the calories you add up on your "eat meter"  (Eat Meter sounds like a **** '70s band, by the way) and that's your calorie deficit for the day.

I think there are 3500 calories in a pound, if you have a 500 calorie deficit for seven days, you should lose a pound in a week.  (Am I right?  I think that's right.)

So, no.  You don't want to eat more than you burn... that's how you gain weight.  If you match it, you're maintaining, and if you're under it, you should be losing.  If you're under it too much, then you're body folds up like a deck chair and you start burning muscle.

Make sense?  Basic subtraction, I think.  Eat less than you burn.  

Me today:  9pm, and I'm at 1400 calories.  So... I gotta wolf down something chickeny and delicious.

You are correct. 

The burn meter has two numbers in the box.  The top number is the estimated total number of calories that you should burn for that day.   The larger number is the amount of calories that you have burnt up until that time.  I believe that there is a time line underneath both meter boxes that states: Your current meters at: ...  This is the time that the caloric meters are based.  If you referesh that page in a few minutes then your burned calories will be a few more.

 

You are dead on with the 3,500 calories in a pound and also your explanation of a deficit.  Stay below your calories burned for the day and you should lose weight.  But correctly stated was to not go too below that line as your body will go into starvation mode (metabolism will slow to a hault) and start burning its muscle and save everything else as fat.

Also as a very smart man told me, it's better to burn the fat off than to starve it off.  When you burn it off with some exercise and careful eating, then you will lose less muscle off of your body and more fat.  The more muscle you have, the higher your metabolism will stay as that what feeds your metabolism.

One day away from our next weigh in.

Today's goals for me:

1)  Since its a long day, eat smaller meals over the course of it.  Five or six 300/400 calorie explosions of goodness.

2)  Since I'm going to a party at 6:30 for a bit, not eat their fried puffy thingies, stick with water or at the very least, diet coke.

3)  And since I'm meeting a friend after, avoid booze.  Which should be no problem.  I can't even remember what it tastes like anymore, which is weird.

4) Avoid the temptation of weighing myself early, since I will either be rewarded for my efforts, or surprised by physics, in less than a day.

Thanks a  bunch.  That is exactly was I usually order...before our hardcore 4 week plan.  I did have Thai iced tea...I couldn't resist.

Weigh in #2 tomorrow!

Today was hard, but I had an "aha" moment.  (By the way, I called it that long before Oprah did.  So screw her.)

Today was the day I figured out if I had a breakfast shake (130 calorie with dietary blah blah) BEFORE I worked out, I could work out easier and not feel so dead afterwards.

I know that's sort of "work out 101" but it still made me happy to figure it out.  I've never done this before.

Tough today:  I lost track of intake.  I think I'm at around 1900 cals, but for dinner I had a shrimp cocktail (five of them big shrimp) and seared Ahi (five little rectangles of fish) and I had to guestimate those.  (Anybody think they know?)

Can't be THAT much, because by the time I got home, I still made myself a sandwich with light wheat, turkey and hummus.

Should be hungrier than I am, but am not.

Weigh-in Thursday 17 April

I'm down a little I think but I'll post my weight again on Monday. So far the week has been pretty good. I have been excercising 45 min. a day. I hate to start but once I get going I actually like it. I have a bunch of Tae Bo DVD's (bought in a moment of madness) and I do one every night. I tried getting up earlier and excercising but I am just not a morning person. My cal. intake has been within my set limits, I'm getting a little bit bored with my healthy high fiber food so I am going to look for some new low cal foods today. It's not so easy here in Italy,  very few diet products except fruit and veggies.

Weigh in for Thursday April 17th: 210 lbs. (-2 lbs from Monday).

 

I've been consistently eating a little above 2,000 calories a day while burning in the high 2,000's almost 3,000 calories a day.  I've also done some type of exercise every day this week.  Since it's nice now in CT, I've started walking a couple of miles at lunch and am also weight training at night.

4/17-Weigh in @ 135.  This is awesome...I'm down 1.5 lbs from Monday.  I need to get up now and hit the gym.  Good Luck today everyone.

didn't hit the gym this morning, so I'm going off the stupid spring at home.. it showed me under 200.. not sure exactly how much, looked like 198-199.. which is better than monday, so I'll take it.

Im in. I started working out April 14 also. Im 5'1 and currently I weigh 170 lbs Im taking weight loss day by day although I do have a goal set I will just happy losing weight. I work out at home with workout videos got two small children so unable to go to gym.

So, it's thursday. Weigh in day.

My little boy is sick today. Woke up throwing up so I don't know if I'll get my walk in today.  Will try to do some workout video or something.

I'm down 2 lbs since Monday and I could not be happier!


Just few weeks ago, I was 144. Counting calories and cutting -500 calories per day definitely helps. I also exercised several times a week so I'm gonna have to keep it up.

I've been eating approx 1,200-1,400 calories every day (I messed up last weekend, though btwn 1,500-1,700 but looks like it's not really affecting my weight so I'm glad)

Way to go everybody!

Getting up, taking off my six pound bathrobe and heading to the scale.  Drum roll please:

201.5!

Okay, that being said, I know that my "203.5" from Monday was probably teetering more on the 203.2500001, but who cares, really?  That is, at least on the face of the scale, down two pounds since Monday morning.

But the most important part of this is, through a lot of the help here, I didn't eat too little OR too much, too poorly OR too limitedly.   Plus, we are now 12.5% done with our little experimental sprint, and so far, it looks like everybody's doing pretty good.

Goal for the next four days:

Thursday:  Don't pig out just because I'm going to Costco with a friend to help her plan a party, don't eat crap because I'm going to a dinner thing tonight.

Friday:  Don't punk out on the gym, and the trainer, just because I'm getting tired.  I'm starting to see some results on my body.

Saturday and Sunday:  Avoid crap at my friend's party Saturday night, stay strong even things even though, without work getting in the way, all I'll be doing over the weekend is thinking about not eating.  And, try to do a little workout every day, even when I'm not at the gym.

WOOOOT!

 

I weighed in. 167. still up from last week but down 1lb from monday.

Monday was 178.2 lbs

CW: 176 (175.8, actually.)

Woo-hoo, I am tempted to say 175 though because that was my personal goal (started beginning of March) and I wanted to get down to 175 by today because I am going to VEGAS!! But even a pound over my goal is still pretty freaking AWESOME!

So, now I have to at least maintain while I'm in Vegas for four days, yikes, here's to making good decisions....

I am so proud of everyone in this group, we are doing phenomenal.

Keep, keep, keep it up!! (or down rather.)

Hello everyone! Okay so its our second weigh in.......here's my stats for today!

Weigh in at 223.0 ( woohoo) I lost 2 lbs since monday!!! I've been keeping up with my cal intake (less than 1400) but still haven't done my exercises! I'm working on it.....I started walking to my parents house which takes me 15mins to and back! So at least i get 30 min walk in the evenings.  I will have to start waking up earlier so that I can do some exercises at home.

Issue: On VACATION starting friday...Going to Rocky Point for a few days and than Disneyland for the rest of the week.  I plan to eat as much fruits and salads as possible! I hope I do good!

Will try to weigh in on Thursday....wont be able to weigh in on Monday cuz I wont have any connection Frown..........I'll let everyone know how it goes!
