Freaking out at Gaining!

Quote  |  Reply

Hi I realise this question has probably been asked a million times; but it would help me so much if someone could please reassure me that everything is ok....

I have been seeing a dietician for 2 weeks now with 2 weight ins. I gained 700g the first week and then yesterday after another week i have gained 1.5 kilos! I know I should be happy with this but i am stressing that i am going to put on so much weight wasy to quickly when i know that i could probably be eating more than i actually am. I am eating 2500 cal per day and i think that i could really eat more as i am still hungry between morning tea and lunch and then afternoon tea and dinner... I really don't want to have another snack as i feel that i need to keep to a more structured plan. Maybe i need to eat more variety in my snacks?? I would really appreciate you thoughts - i stressed so much yesterday about the weight gain and i didn't eat as much as normally would have and then after dinner went nuts and had 4 sweet biscuits, and 15 almonds + a handful of dried fruit AND a kiwi and necterine. I then felt really guilty and exercised for 50 minutes before bed.....Is this a major set back for me?? Am I going too fast too quickly. Your advice would be fantastic... I really don't want to end up with a majorly slow metabolism and have to survive on less than 2000 cal per day.....I actually love food:) (I'm a bit obsessed - i could spend hours in the supermarket - i can go to 2 or 3 in a day and just buy stuff - is this normal?

im pretty much in the same boat as you. you have to remind yourself though that the 1.5 kilos you gained in a week is probably pure water weight. i gained 2 lbs my first week on 2500 and i just maintained this week.. its already evening out! so its not "fat" going on your body its just like your organs coming alive again.  also, when it comes time to eat and im not hungry and reallyy dont want to i just think ... "ok, normal people( ithink about my mom ) eat about 2000 calories a day to maintain their weight...im only eating 2500 to GAIN weight..." i just push myself that extra 500 which always seems to be the hardest b/c i think about my metabolism.  im not going to GAIN on 2000 the rest of my life, no way no how. i want  to eat like 3000 so my maintence will be 2500 haha if that mkes sense?

FRUIT-did u add 250 cals each nect this week after maintaining?

Thanks for this it makes me feel alot better - the dietican was so please, but i was in a state of shock and was pretending to be happy....I have been bloated alot recently so this would explain it.....I really do hope that it is just water weight. I am also really worried about my maintenance level as i really do love food and i aim for 2500 per day but i don't count calories - i got really obssessive about it and don't really want to go there anymore....so i really hope iam reaching the 2500 for the sake of my metabolism.

yeah to be honest half the time i get to 2500 is because im thinking about my metabolism, each and every bite. haha i know if i screw up even one day and arent consistant w/my cals it can throw everything off. just try and keep it up and know that in the long run youll be happier even though right now you probbbbably feel like **** ( excuse my french ) .

oh and btw, i use measuring spoons. haha my family is just like used to it by now bc there is NOOO way in hell i would get 2500 w/out knowing exactly how much im eating. i feel satisfied for the day after like 1300 cals ha so i have to know exactly how muh more i have to push

i can totally understand your fear ive been through what you are going through it is normal . you arnt going to fast . initially you will gain a little more than you would of liked your body is adjusting to food fluids ect. this will slow down dont let it make you think you need to cut back you dont . you need to keep going consistancy is the key . please dont be scared . your hunger is normal to i was eating 2500 gaining 3 pound and still starving now i eat the same and last week i lost a pound so as you can see the metabolism does speed up. your body is thinking core blimey this girl is feeding me its wanting you to give it more if you get my drift . the hunger will subside just stick with it i know its scary but it is a good sign its your body responding positivey to the nutrition. it may be an idea to try some different snacks you could look at this with your dietician look at the times you are hungry most and incorporate a more filling snack i found that part of my hunger was eating the wrong things . ive been there to going in supermarkets it all to do with starvation .your body and mind is starved now you are eating it wiil be contantly on your mind. so just hang on in there h x

Dont panic you arent going to fast, 1.5 kg in a week isnt a huge amount and remember that at the beginning you will put on more, if you stick with your eating plan consistently you`ll begin to see it even out a bit.

The reason you ate more after dinner the other night was because you had cut back throughout the day. Ive done the same, Ive cut back during the day and then later on Ive gone mad and its because our bodies are playing catch up.

If you feel you can eat more then by all means do! I dont see any harm in adding in an extra snack if you could manage it, I normally eat 3 meals and 3 snacks a day, so you could just work out a structured way to split up your day. If you didnt want to add an extra snack then just eat more at your other meals or bulk them up by eating higher calorie foods.

Hang in there, I know its scary and tough to begin with but it will be worth it in the end and it will get easier.
