'Free' foods

Quote  |  Reply

I don't know about everyone else, but i find it extremely helpful to set aside a few foods that i can eat 'guilt free', and not obsessively weigh and count the calories of.

My 'Free' foods are:

- Cabbage soup

- Vegetable soup

- Cucumbers

- Lettice

- Celery

I find that, if i have the urge to binge, or if i'm extremely hungry, i will fill up on as much 'free' food as i want, and i won't eat something that's bad for me :)

Also, it breaks the mentality that "if i go over my calories for the day, i may as well start fresh tomorrow, and binge tonight",  because, if i've eaten all my calories, i can STILL eat my free food without feeling guilty.

Im not sure if this will help anyone else,  but for me, as a recovering binge eater/bulimic, it helps to have free/safe food that i can fill up on (in addition to my regular banlanced meals), that are guilt free.

:)

Carrots for me! Thanks, the list is useful!

I think that's a good idea and will borrow it, although I will still track the calories on these things, because I know how I work, and if I give myself leave not to track calories on certain things, then I'll do it for other things, and then eventually I won't track calories at all.

But yes, you're right, this will help if I go over one day - I won't just think I can eat anything and everything.

Starbrow:   If you are going to try this, perhaps it would be easier for you to track if you put All your morning meals ( morning snack included )  under breakfast.  Afternoon eats under lunch and evening eats under dinner.  Saving the catagory "Snacks"  for your freebies.

I guess I could of worded that better.  Tongue out Its getting late here in my corner of the world so my brain, words, & fingers aren't co-operating together.  Wink

Free foods can be really unsatisfying - I am a veteran dieter so I think the important thing is to eat a little fat with each snack/meal or else you could easily eat free foods all night and not feel full or satisfied!

Sugar Free Jell-O

Individual packages of frozen veggies such as: steamfresh brussel sprouts, asparagus or broccoli, I can't believe it's not butter Spray and Seasoned Salt. My perfect pre-meal starter, to keep me in control.

Steam Cauliflower and top with spray butter and little parmesan.

After dinner - Weight Watchers Lemon Cream Pie yogurt mixed with 2 tbsp fat-free redi-whip for a low cal/fat - really rich tasting dessert.

Egg white omelette with sauteed mushrooms, tomatoes, peppers and asparagus. Topped with Pace picante salsa for an almost free delicious meal!

94% fat free microwave popcorn with all different kinds of Kearnal Seasonings sprinkles (caramel, jalapeno, etc - sweet & salty flavors)

Ice cubes Embarassed

baby carrots and strawberries are my free foods in terms of snacking.  At dinner, if I still feel hungry after eating my properly portioned entree and starchy side, I will pile on the green veggies like there is no tomorrow.  Fills me up with little calorie consequence.

  • Nori Sheets & Other Seaweed
  • Daikon Radish
  • Yam Noodles
  • Black Coffee & My Coffee Flavored Ice Cubes
  • Spinach
  • Lettuce
  • Cabbage
  • Mushrooms

yeah, that may be zero calories, but is it really worth it to mess up your teeth?
