Can I freeze a homemade smoothie?

Quote  |  Reply
Hey guys, I'm currently discovering the delights of the food blender and I've made some really nice strawberry-banana smoothie (with an apricot in!). I've made 2 servings thinking I'll give one to the man, but just wondering.......if he doesn't want my delicious gifts, do you think it would be okay to freeze the smoothie to have it another day? Or will that kill the flavour/vitamins?

How long does stuff like that keep? Any ideas?

I am sure its ok but it might loose a little bit of the flavor and nutrients.  It might be watery when it thaws out.  i think you could.  might freeze funny.  bet you could put it in the fridge and save for tomorrow maybe.

whats in it besides the fruit?
Nothing! It's just 3 large strawberries, a 'nana and the apricot. For drinking I added a shot of skim milk but that's not what is in the actual bit I'm going to freeze.
Just keep it in the fridge. :) That's what I'd do, if you're going to eat it within the next few days. Then you dun' hafta worry about it getting watery.

I freeze the unused portion all the time.  Then you can just stick it in the blender again (you will need to defrost it a little first), add some more liquid (I usually add whatever kind of juice I've got in the fridge) and go for it.

I don't know about the freezing part making it lose nutrients.  The microwave defrosting I do probably isn't the best idea, but it beats my old doughnut and a Coke breakfast!
