Freezing cooked foods

Quote  |  Reply

I bought some pre-made meals from the supermarket deli last week. They looked good, but I wasn't really hungry for them yet. So I put them in the freezer.

My question is, how long can I keep them in the freezer? They are pre-cooked, one is chicken and one is beef. They appear fine now, but I thought I'd ask before I go and make myself sick . ..

Thanks!

If they were very fresh when you froze them and if you wrapped them well to avoid freezer burn then they'll probably be good for a month or three.  Defrost slowly overnight in a fridge before re-heating.

Freezer burn isn't going to poison you, but it just won't taste very good.  A few weeks to a few months is the general rule of thumb on stuff you've frozen.  If it's in the freezer door, closer to a few weeks as it will be somewhat subjected to freezing and unfreezing.

thanks, that helps a lot ...
