Hey everybody! So kinda pointless thread, but I just wanted to share with you my prideful accopmlishment. I have a list of "fear foods" from my ED, and tonight, I officially ate the last remaining food on that list- McDonald's french fries!

They were very good. It was difficult, but I tried to focus on how much I enjoyed the taste. And it's nice to TREAT YOURSELF! Especially when you have to manage 3,000 calories a day ;) But even when I'm maintaining, I'm going to make it apoint to treat myself occasionally.

So that mad eme very happy to finally have eaten all the foods on my fear list. I'm still alive and healthy (healthier!), so for those of you resisting certain foods, give them a try! The more you stray from a former treat, the more daunting it will seem. And deprivation is no way to live. Treats aren't about weight or calories, they're about doing something nice for YOU (once in a while, in moderation ;))

Okay so now the helpful note... I had THE BEST protein bar today! Met-rx colassal cookie explosion! http://www.met-rx.com/shop/parent.aspx?parent ID=12&catID=1&xs=54344129438a48fa8d9f e52e1c0096d4

This baby tastes like a dream... resembling oreo cookies and iceceream... but better! Plus, much better nutrition facts... 410 calories, 14 grams of fat, 3 gram,s of fiber, and 32 grams of protien. Made for a GREAT snack item! Give it a try if you're struggling to meet your daily needs.

Happy eating and gaining to all! Keep on pushing through and stay strong :)

Ok I’ve got to ask, what is it with you guys and protein?  I mean of course we all need it, but it’s the lower % of a recommended diet breakdown from what learned.  Is it like some sort of magic food for you all?

Well protein helps build and repair tissues and most of us have been underweight for several years, so we need it to repair ourselves. The recommended diet is for "normal" people. The recommended calorie intake for a normal person is also 2000, and lets just say those of us gaining are not really normal in that aspect either, as quite a few of us need to consume 3000+ cals a day just to get back to "normal" :) hope this sheds some light into it

Spunky:

 a. Protein tends to be a "safe" food for some of us. I don't know why. I always took more comfort in carbs, lol. Also, ak604 is right to a point - protein is important in some cases like atrophy (which I suffered in my legs) where you may need a little excess. Not a lot, though. I don't understand how people can get something like 30% extra protein when not on a 3000+ gaining intake!

 b. Protein bars are an excellent way of compacting calories. Low density, high calorie, easy on a long-malnourished stomach and not seeming too huge while actually providing a small meal equivilent. Which is what some of us need, sometimes.
