So I've heard that it's probably a good idea to break up your meals to 6 mini-meals/snacks all day.  But I was wondering if it would further make your metabolism efficient if you were to, say, consume 100 calories every 1 hour.

I don't see how that wouldn't work! Plus you wouldn't have to wait a long time to eat your next snack. :)

I have heard of some people doing this but have read that there is little metabolic effect over the 6 times a day split.  However if it is easier for you to do it this way there is nothing negative about it, so if eating every hour sounds do-able to you go for it! :)

Everybody needs to figure this one out for themselves.  I think the main reason for small, frequent meals is to control hunger.

It might make your metabolism more efficient, who knows?   But you could also be left feeling that you'd never sat down to a square meal but had spent the day 'picking at bits and pieces'.... and that can be rather unsatisfying.  I think there's a reason why great swathes of the human race enjoy three meals a day and a few snacks in between.

One, 100 calories six times a day is only 600 calories a day---you need more than that to live.  Two,  you might not be giving your body enough time to do its job efficiently. Small, balanced meals every 2 to 3 hours is the most effective and efficient way to go.

By limiting yourself to only 100cals at a time this restricts what food you can have, sometimes its nice to have a treat and you cant do that with only 100cals (it would have to be one cookie or a small amount of chocolate.

Others may think you are obsessed with food eating all the time, you could end up clock-watching waiting for the next food break, a hour goes so quickly. If you get hungry how about taking a walk?

I agree with gi-jane. I have lost 77 lbs since 30th July 08 by having 3 meals a day, with the odd snack. I dont think you would get a balance diet snacking all the time.

In terms of weight loss, I see nothing wrong with it, but as gi-jane pointed out, it may leave you feeling dissatisfied. Also, constantly eating is terrible for your teeth, if you're at all prone to getting cavities.

you misunderstood... the poster is talking about either eating all the cals 6x or day OR eating 100 cals an hour.  Same cals either way...
