Fresco menu at Taco Bell

Quote  |  Reply

I tried the Fresco ranchero chicken soft taco (just had one) yesterday for lunch (we were on the go) and it has lettuce, grilled chicken, and pico de gallo i think and it's only 170 calories and only has 4 grams of fat!! :)  They are yummy so you can eat healthy when your on the go.  I also had a small thing of the pintos and cheese too.  I felt like i was cheating too!! Has anyone else tried the fresco menu there??

I've eaten from the fresco menu, though the last time I ordered from it I got the wrong thing!  Either way, my Taco Bell eating habits have changed dramatically.  I used to eat 3-4 really fattening foods at a time.  Now I eat one taco, no soda.  It's the only fast food I still will eat, having given up drive thru burgers completely.

It is a reasonable amount of fat and calories, but it is the 710mg of sodium part that stops me from going to Taco Bell.  Fast foods are so full of sodium, even Subway, that I find myself only going to eat fast food once a month.

I've been eating Taco Bell's fresco menu items for quite a while now, though I still prefer my regular ol' fatty normal menu items.  I like cheese. :D
Watch their steak soft taco - it was included in a news show where the sent food off to calorie labs (along with Chili's, Mac Grill, etc) and was one of the worst misrepresented ones.  I believe it was listed at like 170cal and really came in at very close to 300 - still not bad say if you got two based on thinking 340cal instead of almost 600, that could be an issue for a true calorie counter.

I don't think you can trust any restaurant!! And the steak taco is the one i usually get. Thanks for sharing that. I'm not sure i trust Applebees, they say their french onion soup is only 170 calories  but I think it might be more.....

dang it!

This has nothing to do with ordering from the fresco menu but I was out with some friends the other night and one of my  friends got their new big box deal. It has a crunchwrap supreme, taco, cinnamon sticks and I believe something else. She was so determined to finish it and I was astounded when I looked up the calorie information the next day

People get so caught up in fat, calories, and carbs that they either overlook or dismiss sodium.  It is as important a consideration as the others.  For me, too much sodium causes me to gain a lot of water weight and really throws me off for a good 24 hours afterwards.  Fortunately I am not a fan of salty foods, but I do enjoy the saltiness of soy sauces used in Chinese food.  But I always pay for it for a day or two, and if I kept that up then I would think it would lead to all kinds of other eating problems to compensate for that gain.

Sodium is trouble!!  I cannot imagine that Taco Bell of all places is concerned about it.  Now why do you think they normally offer free drink refills?  (Hint: think about why cheap bars sometimes offer "free" pretzels.)

I can see the pretzels making you thirsty and order more beer, but I don't see a soda refill making you buy more food...??

Sodium is something to be concerned about with mindless eating and people who have trouble with sodium (MSG allergy and Hypertension).  But water weight is just that, water weight.  I don't see how water weight throws anyone off track.

If you are counting calories and planning your meals, then one Fresco taco isn't going to destroy a diet.  I won't eat Taco Bell "bowl" again (100% RDA of sodium) but I think I'm okay with 700 mg of sodium once a week when I'm watching the rest of my food that day.
