Freshman Fifteen~For College Students and Anyone Else Who Would Like To Join!
Hey! I'm Kristina and I just finished my first semester at college. Throughout high school I was able to stay pretty much around the same weight, due to myself being very active, playing sports year round. Throughout this past summer and beginning of the school year, I gained the freshman fifteen. So I am going to try and start a group of other college students who experience the same struggles as me, to try and motivate ourselves to exercise more, eat healthier, lose weight and then maintain our healthy weight.
So you can start with your stats and hopefully we can all track our progress together throughout 2009!
Age: 18
Height: 5'7"
Starting Weight: 155
Current Weight:151
Goal Weight: 130
Exercise: About 5 days a week, do ab workouts everyday
I'm looking forward to meeting some new people in the same boat as I am!

how do you guys deal with alcohol at school? I am not much of a drinker.. i m just curious.. how or what u do to avoid those sneaky calories
Well im with clw36, I usually check the calories of a drink (socially drinking) before i drink or usually if i know im going to go out and party or drink, im really careful on how much and what i eat earlier in the day and usually try to get in a decent workout. I don't generally drink beer, socially thats about it, same goes for malt drinks. Im not a person who needs or wants to drink every day, once, twice a week. Just be aware of what your drinking and how much, personally i dont think theres anything wrong with cutting loose once in a great(*cough*after Finals) while but just stay on track with your diet and bounce back.
Hey my name is Katie and i'm in the same boat as everyone else. I'm sophomore in college who weighed 107 beginning of freshman year. I was extremely pleased with my body then but I now weigh 117.
Stats:
height: 5 ft.
starting weight: 121
Current weight: 117
Goal weight: 107 ( not sure how realistic)
about alcohol though, I'm a pretty big drinker at school and try to stay as healthy as possible and work out at least 5 days a week. I'm not to concerned about the calories because i'm not going to let calorie counting get in the way of myself having a good time. I say just stay positive , exercise and eat healthy and don't sweat it too much if you drink 3-4 nights a night. It's college , have fun.
I usually dont drink alcohol because all those calories in a drink just dont do it for me lol. I would look up the calories in everything because sometimes just knowing how many calories are in 3,4,5 beers are just too much. During losing weight I will definitely limit alchoholic intake, and after, while I am trying to maintain I will still watch what I drink. At parties if you had a bad day food wise just dont drink a lot.
hi im dani ive been doing cc for 5 days now..

to all of your questions about alcohol: when i know im going to at a party or drinking later that night, i usually try to keep it under 100 calories food wise during the day, that way i still feel a buzz after a shot or 2 and i dont have to drink a lot. also, i STAY AWAY FROM BEER

you only eat 100 calories of food that day
!!! WOWWWWW. That cant be healthy. Maybe I misunderstood what your saying... Did I?
Definitely watch what I eat on Fridays/Saturdays (and any other nights I know I'm going out) and try to get in a workout... while dieting I tend to only drink vodka (approx. 70 calories a shot and not too much sugar) mixed with a no-cal drink like sprite zero and certain brands of energy drinks..
I agree with ryanndani about limiting food and how that way you get an easier buzz (therefore less calories throughout day + less calories of alcohol) ... HOWEVER i would NEVER aim for 100 cal a day.. thats scary! and sooo unhealthy
On a typical day I would aim for around 1300-1400cal and on a drinking day I'd go for maybe 1000cal plus the alcohol (around 5-6 shots) would put me at around 1350.. then the problem is just avoiding pizza pizza on the walk home!
does anyone else have issues with snacking between the hours of 2-6?
yeah thats my prime snack craving time lol.
i just get bored especially if im not in school at the time caugh caugh (winter break)
even though i just had lunch and i am not hungry... my snacking is insatiable!
i tend do to better over break i think during that time just cuz thats usually when i work out and i can catch myself better. During school, thats generally when im done with classes, get bored or i start working on hw and i start getting the munchies. I usually try chewing gum when i get the munchies or i'll try to just drink a lot of water.
ahh that is my snacking time too. but usually i try to just go and exercise or tan or something to get my mind off of it. facebook works for me a lot bc i am on like all the time and i get distracted veryyyyy easily. but if i must munch on something ill go for a 100 calorie pack or some fruit. the other day was bad i had lots of cheez its , but i got through it and luckily snacking cravings are going away from me now!
facebook is like a bad snack, bad habit on its own lol okay not really but the dang thing is addicting and great :)
i know im on 24/7 lol
lol ya same here.
I drink three-four nights a week. I just made the choice that going out with my friends/not being limited socially when I'm 20 was what was important and I didn't want to miss out and take advantage of that point in my life while it was still an option. You can DEFINETLY pull it off with some minor adjustments - I'm even a big beer drinker!
But for the girls, try out vodka, water, ice, and half a splenda with a lime. Real good and like 80 calories per drink. I'm more of a spiced rum and diet man myself but that's definetly worth trying!
I agree, I'm young and I don't want to let dieting take over my life. I want to drink 2-3 nights a week (usually and preferably 2). My problem is binging when I'm drunk - if I can get through that hurdle I think I'll be just fine :)
I'm 19, 168 lbs (Goal Weight :140), and 5'7"!
I actually lose weight when I was at school (not too much of a drinker, and the dining hall food isn't too appetizing) but the second I came home, I gained 20 lbs! Being surrounded by real food and LOTS of it was absolutely horrible!
Now I'm on a mission to drop that fat and then some!
Hey everyone,
My name is Ashley and I'm a junior in college. I've been on CC for 3 days now and have started modifying my diet and exercise in the hopes that I can lose 30 pounds by summer. I literally live on the beach in California, and already there are tourists, volleyball players, and sunbathers confident enough about their bodies to enjoy all that the CA sun has to offer. I would like to be one of those people very soon! =o) I was always a naturally thin person, although I was very active in highschool, however, nowadays I am much less inclined to do much other than sit at my computer and go to school. Hopefully with the support of others and my newfound motivation, I will be able to attain my weightloss goals. Thanks for reading!
Stats:
Height: 5'7
Starting/Current Weight: 150lbs
Goal Weight: 120lbs
Exercise: Denise Austin Personal Training workout video (legs/arms/abs- no cardio yet) 3 times per week. I have also been walking two miles every few days.
Hey everyone,
So I'm technically not a US "college student" but I'm an Aussie "uni student"... I went to the US on exchange for a year over 07-08 and gained about 10 kilos from eating all the glorious bagels/cookies/brownies/Panera bread that America has to offer! I'm back home now and although I have only lost around 2 kilos, I'm much more toned. But my problem is that I overeat way too much! I really can't control myself.. some days I eat 1200 or 1500 cals, the others I eat like 3000 cals... Usually on the weekends or when I'm home alone I eat heaps. Anyone else wtih this problem?
As for my workouts, I do Bodypump three times a week, and sometimes walk around, but not much... I'm not a fan of cardio. My stats:
Height: 161 cm (I think that's 5 foot 3ish???)
Weight: 63 kgs
Goal Weight: 55 kgs
Thanks and seeya!! Hope to hear from you :)
Hey everyone im a sophomore college student (nursing major) who has lost most of her weight but needs to tone up since I did it mostly with eating healthy and very little exercise...I come from a very overweight family and was overweight myself until the summer after my senior year.
Im 19 and eat about 1200 calories a day..
5'8
Highest Weight: 175

Just looking to tone up the stomach, thighs, and butt
