Freshman Fifteen~For College Students and Anyone Else Who Would Like To Join!

Quote  |  Reply

Hey! I'm Kristina and I just finished my first semester at college. Throughout high school I was able to stay pretty much around the same weight, due to myself being very active, playing sports year round. Throughout this past summer and beginning of the school year, I gained the freshman fifteen. So I am going to try and start a group of other college students who experience the same struggles as me, to try and motivate ourselves to exercise more, eat healthier, lose weight and then maintain our healthy weight.

So you can start with your stats and hopefully we can all track our progress together throughout 2009!

Age: 18

Height: 5'7"

Starting Weight: 155

Current Weight:151

Goal Weight: 130

Exercise: About 5 days a week, do ab workouts everyday

I'm looking forward to meeting some new people in the same boat as I am!

Hi Carolinamoon,

You're situation sounds very similar to mine, I definitely hate exercising and am trying to lose 30 pounds by doing as little as possible while only eating 1200 or so calories/day. Congrats on your weigt loss! I haven't actually lost much/any weight, but I'm only a few days in. How long did it take you to lose the weight or start seeing results?

Ok my names Ashley and  Iam also a nursing student..thats just freaky..lol....anyway I think it took about 6 months when I started seeing major weight loss b/c i figured out that fatty foods and bad carbs were just as bad as sweets. So once i stopped going to the caf for cheese sticks and french fries I started seeing big results in my stomach and thighs....For my entire weight loss though..probably a year

since were both nursing students...its good to know im not the only one trying to get my body under control before I start working long hours and studying till dawn lol

good luck and stay in touch

i am in the same situation.  i played sports in high school so it was so easy to maintain a healthy weight.  Now in college its been hard to maintain weight and not gain from drinking/eating.  how do i stay healthy at school and what tips do you have

Age: 18

Height: 5'7"

Starting Weight: 175

Current Weight:146

Goal Weight: 128

Exercise: Monday Wednesday Friday workouts, plus some abs / stretches on off-day

What time of day do you prefer to work out? Late evening when there are fewer people.

When you work out, what's the target you shoot for? 400-600 calories on the elliptical and then 2 miles walking / running as much as I can.

Where are we from? From MD, going to school in AZ.

Hey everyone!  I'm Shelby.  I'm from Oklahoma and in my second semester of my Junior year.  I'm getting so close to being finished!!!! I'm finally figuring out how to balance work and school while not putting my eating habits in the back seat.  I have struggled with my weight since i was in high school, my heaviest being 170 which with my short stature, was not too flattering lol.  I was able to lose 35 lbs before I moved to college and kept most of it off until I got about midway through my sophomore year.  I was in a steady relationship and started following his eating habits, which are aweful, lol and I am now doing the work to pay for it.  My diet is going well because I am for some reason very motivated and excited to get back in shape!

I'm starting college in a month and I have heard rumors of this Freshman Fifteen. Prevention is always better than cure, so are there any college people out there who have tips on how to not gain? D=

Keep lots of fruits and veggies on hand.  And keep something healthy to snack on while your studying.  Just try to plan ahead on what your gonna eat for the day and keep yourself away from fast food.  That was the biggest hurdle for me, because under the time crunch its easy to rely on quick meals.  If you have a campus meal plan, make sure to find out which places server healthier choices.  My campus marks healthy places with  a special sticker, so maybe research that on your schools website.  I am a big believer in frozen dinners such as healthy choice and lean cuisine.

Hey,

I'm Kirsty, I'm British, and I've just started my second term at uni. It's kinda difficult keeping my weight from escalating with the alcohol consumption, and also, i think the security of having a boyfriend encourages a little too much relaxation when it comes to controlling what you eat- know what i mean? which is why i'm here. My stats;

Height; 5'10"

Weight; 143 lbs

Goal; 132 lbs.

I work out every day except occasionally Sunday, and I'm aiming to curb the calories to around 1400 a day- not sure what rate i'll lose if i keep it to that, does anyone know?

Also- is anyone else from the UK? Does anybody think there should be more British brands in the calorie index?
