Freshmen or Freshmeat ?????? ( for anyone in high school right now) HELP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Quote  |  Reply

Hi, I'm in 8th grade and will be starting high school in the fall. I was wondering if high school is really as bad and hard as everyone says. Is it impossible to find your way around ? Do the olders really pick on freshmen ? Are the workloads too much to handle or homework ? Are the tests really hard ? Do you stay up until 3 in the morining doing homework or studying ? Is it hard to learn a new langunge ( i will be doing spanish for the first time) ? Do you still have livies ? Can you give me like a typical amount of homework and study time for you. Please answer these questions. Also, give me advice. I know it really depends on the school but I just wanted some peoples opinions. I'm kinda nervous.

THANKS !

wow your really stressing out ok seniors probraly wont mess with you only if you arent weird id say idk lol um finding your way around well you will figure out were everything is within a week prob  homework wise well it depends what level ur at(acdemic, the middle one, and special ed) like acdemic homework isnt that bad like ya id say the homework is about the same from public to high school. I use to study for tests in public and now well i only study if i really want to lol i wouldnt say the tests are hard as i always pass them without studing but if i studied i could do awsome lol. The latest iv stayed up for homework is 11pm tbh but like i dont leave a project till the last minute. Um no idea bout the spanish but id think it might be but hey if its a leanring spanish class everyone will be at your level so you should be fine. yes i have a life. um typical study time and homework. Well depends what classes you have in a semester. My hardest symester was last were i had english math accounting(pretty much math!) and chemistry and the homework load was acceptable.

My advice? Go juggalo. Any clique-ridden, over-dramatized, hyper-hormonal, stressful environment is easier with a couple hundred thousand family members behind you. Plus, they won't bull**** you like a lot of other highschool students will, as long as you find real juggalos and not the weird obsessive people pretending to understand Family.

That stuff really happens. Promise. :]

'Course, I skipped the whole 'highschool' thing, so I might not be quite as qualified to advise as most.

Anyway. Good luck, PM me if you have any questions 'bout juggalo stuff in particular.

edit to add: That's the 'clean' version of the song, the original is a different version.  Just in case you wanted to know.

^^  It's actually pretty cool.  I'm in a public highschool coming from a parochial k-8 school with one class of 30 kids per grae. BIG change.  But I was pretty fine.  Getting around can be difficult, but only for the first week.  And upperclassmen are nice (except sophmores, who think they are cool).  The homework load is LIGHT don't worry!  I'd say maybe an hour or two on a bad day.  And besides, you have study halls!!!  Get your work done there instead of talking to people, it's a HUGE help. :] You shoulnd't have to pull any all-nighters.  Just don't be obnoxious or annoy people and you'll be fine.  If you're nice, you'll get along really well.

Typical homework:  Tonight I had to read a section in History (like, 10 mins) and 4 questions for it, and some math problems (15 mins) and a paragraph for English (30 mins.)

uber uber easy. :]  Chill.

Remember that LOTS of people survived high school, and you will too. ^^ The hardest thing is probably moving to a school that has way more people in it. I don't know about you, but I was always used to knowing most people in my grade until I got to highschool.. where the halls just seemed crowded.

The teachers are well aware of everything you're going through. They are usually really easy on new students.

I don't know what a livie is but as for homework/study time.. it always varied. As I said the teachers will be really easy on you at the beginning but as long as you do your work you will be fine. As long as you TRY to do your work you will be fine. I sometimes had more than an hour of homework a day in 9th grade, but not until the second half of the year. And most of it was "easy" stuff.

My advice would be to try to learn your way around the school as quickly as possible. DON'T be afraid to ask random people where things or rooms are. Good luck. ^^

You know.. it totally depends on what you want to do when you're older. I'm hoping to be successful in the medical/science fields. Therefore, I am taking all advanced courses.
I get about a half an hour to four hours of homework a night, plus a recommended half hour of studying. The tests are only as easy as how well you prepared.
It is NOT hard to pick up a new language if you're committed to it.
I still have a life. =P
The older students will probably scoff at you, but they probably won't pick on you.

Best advice; stay away from drugs/alcohol/EDs.. pick good friends, and don't be afraid to stand up for yourself. Be respectful to the teachers and older students without being a suckup.
One thing.. at least at my highschool.. the girls are BRUTAL. Do NOT let any stupid rumours or comments get to you. =)

Goodluck, freshie!

Chill!!! it'll be fine. im a sophmore in highschool. its not neaerly as hard as they all say it is. you might get a little lost at first but itll be fine. just use the map and dont worry theres plenty of other kids in the same boat as you. the older kids dont pick on you nearly as much as you'd think. MAYBE the first friday but otherwise all you get is the occasional "damn freshman" but thats it. the workloads arent that bad at all usually they give u enough time to get everything done. and if u pay attention the tests are generally easy.  Ive never stayed up past 1 doing homework. and that was only because i procrastinated for like 3 hrs. youll be fine. most kids are in the same boat youre in and the teachers generally understand ur situation. just dont beleive everything people tell you. and if you want to get to know someone and are too scared to talk to them just do it! usually nobody knows anybody else and its better to get to know them earlier in the year b4 everyone starts making their little groups and then you miss a chance at a cool friendship or w/e. just chill. it will be a little harder but youll be able to handle it i promise.
i'm currently a junior in high school. there's only a few more months until school is over, summer vacation, and then i'll be a senior...i'm not sure i can believe it. but looking back on those middle school years, they really weren't the best times...i like high school better, actually!

coming into high school can feel like a big change, but you'll get used to how things go, i know you will. it'll be okay. i was a little lost in the beginning, but now i know where everything is.
you'll learn quickly.

the "older kids" at my school don't really pick on the freshman. it's usually not such a big deal that there are freshman around, since there will always be. freshman and upperclassmen don't usually have classes together, either.

the workload isn't too much if you keep on top of it, but it really depends on what classes you take. i doubt you'll be staying up to crazy hours of the morning.

it's not so bad learning a new language, either - especially spanish - you'll get the hang of it, i took it for two years. i'm taking german now. it's nice.

and yes, we all still have lives. and high school is an oppurtunity to meet some great people! it's true. there are so many people i've been so glad to meet over the years, and i know i wouldn't have ever met them if it wasn't for all of us coming together over the same roof everyday.

a typical amount of homework?
as a freshman, i don't think it was too long at all...
i can't remember very well, i'm sorry...
but currently as a junior it can be 2 hours or more...
but i said before, it all depends on the classes you take and all.
i have some classes this year where the homework keeps coming...
but i also have a ceramics class, which is nice!
there was nothing like that at the middle school i went to.

i know you'll do just fine. :)

Haha, relax. I'm finishing high school in about 1 month, and even the rigorous program I was in is nothing like you just described (like staying up til 3 am  or having incredibly difficult tests all the time. I stayed up that late only a few times, and the tests are only hard if you don't study or do your homework). Just be a good kid and study for the tests and you'll be fine. Don't procrastinate! :P

Finding your way around doesn't take very long - just as long as for middle school, probably. A couple of months, maybe, but not longer.

You just have to remember what you're working for and what your goals are - never let anybody or anything get to you.

Stay positive, you'll be fine. You'll meet tons of new people and friends, and you'll have a good time.

Calm down lol. It's really not that hard or bad. Freshmen aren't really picked on too much (unless they're b!tchy, skanky, or go out of their way to be extremely strange), they're usually just ignored, or maybe they just give like a weird look here and there. I don't want to sound rude because I've honestly seen this happen before, try not to get involved with the "older" boys too much (or at least right off the bat), because that's when girls get vicious.

Finding your way around will be easy after like the first couple weeks (i made up all these little tricks & shortcuts to be on time to classes that were on the opposite side of the building). Homework always varies based on the teacher & subject. Tests are tests, not much different from middle school, just on different subjects now. The difficulty depends on the type of test (as in multiple choice, matching, essay, etc) and the teacher giving it. Studying is studying. Languages are usually not hard at all in freshman year(honestly, everyone i know says they're a breeze. the only people that fail are the slackers who put in absolutely no effort). Of course you'll still have a life. It may seem like it before you get there, but high school is definitely NOT all about the schoolwork. Yes it's important, but socializing is a huge part too and it comes naturally with the entrance into a new school.

Don't worry, it's not like you're the ONLY freshman coming in (:

I found grade school really hard (I was the outcast), but high school was a wonderful breath of fresh air.  The way classes were broken up allowed me to meet other people than just the same 20 I was in a room with, meet new friends, and really learn who I was.

That being said, it's what you make of it.  At some point I went from caring about others to saying "Heck with it," and just being myself and letting anything the "cool" kids said roll off my back.

I know that's easier said than done, but it can be done.  Trust me, I was the gay kid out in a redneck school and I still had a blast.

I was a porker all through middle-school and highschool and was ridiculed for it. Yet, I turned out fine (normal, level-headed, successful) because of my loving family. Highschool is a wild ride of trends, social interactions and personal changes. Yet, through all of this, always remember that at the end of highschool is college - the greatest thing of all. College is where life really shines. You can be whoever and do whatever you want. With that said, remember to keep your grades up. I know it's hard to care sometimes or see the bigger picture, but getting into a 4-year university ( a good one is a plus, of course ) should be a main priority of yours during highschool. Sure, jumping on a trend may seem very important during freshman year at the time, but always remember that by the time Senior year hits, the only thing that really matters is where you're going to college. Oh yeah and don't do drugs. Because 'round junior year of highschool they'll start showing up to you a lot closer than you have seen before. They won't do anything for you. Rejecting them builds character. Plus, if you ever plan on working for a government agency that requires a security clearance (FBI, CIA, etc.), your history of drug use will be requested and put under a lie-detector.

Good luck and have fun!

I'm a Freshmen RIGHT NOW

Is it impossible to find your way around ?

This is what I thought too, but u get use to it and it's become so easy.

Do the olders really pick on freshmen ?

In my school ....Not really

No at least in my school u have study hall so that helps

Are the tests really hard ?

Study and they'll be easy

Do you stay up until 3 in the morining doing homework or studying ?

No.

Is it hard to learn a new langunge ( i will be doing spanish for the first time) ?

I'm taking spanish for the first time and it's easy. Just study and do that work.

Do you still have livies ?

Yupp. I really enjoy my weekends because that's when i can rest!

*If you wanna know more or ask any more question just PM me.* XD

holy moly. chill out.

no. im a senior( well, im a sophmore in college, but im supposed to be a senior.) when i was a sophmore in high school i didnt pick on any of the young 'ems. none of my guy friends even want to pick on 'em either. i never saw anyone doing anything like that, actually. i just think they're sooo LITTLE/innocent/cute!

the workload isnt that bad. are you intending on taking AP classes, if so, that may be a tiresome workload.

I ended up meeting my fiance when I was a freshman and he was a senior. Conduct yourself with maturity and grace and you'll be fine.

I thought middle school was way worse than highschool. not that I got picked on alot, but i noticed the other kids got picked on way more in middle school. In high school people are *slighty* more mature, and have better things to do then annoy other people. Usually they just ignore anyone who is rude or that they don't like.

slow down! It's not too bad. Better than middle school i'd say. It's hard to handle sometimes, yea. But it's doable. I get really stressed sometimes, but even when the teachers slam you with papers and tests, all you really need to do is plow through until it's over. As for the staying up late, yea. It happens to me a lot, but mostly because I procrastinate and I've got a lot of sports and stuff. I generally tend to spend an hour or an hour and a half on homework, on average days. Lab reports take me a couple of hours, and studying is like maybe an hour a day until the test, or a couple of hours the night before. It sounds bad, but you just have to get used to it. One thing though, be prepared for it when fall comes. I never had to study much, and it was like a huge shock when I first started. Just make sure you don't overschedule.

Haha, chill out! It's not that bad. (Although, I admit I like middle school better. But that was just me.)

The school seems big and confusing at first, but you get used to it really fast. I knew my way around in a matter of days.

Older kids don't really pick on you much, if at all. Homecoming is probably the most dangerous time for frosh, at least at my school.

Spanish is pretty easy for me. My teacher goes pretty slow, and a lot of spanish words sound like their english counterparts.

I don't have THAT much homework, since they go pretty easy on freshmen. I am, however, in the IB program, which starts in junior year, and I've heard about people pulling all-nighters and staying up to 2 or 3 because of homework. But that's not til I'm a junior.

Advice? Join clubs. Do sports (track is awesome! try it out!). Get to know upperclassmen, because they're actully pretty cool. Try not to procrastinate, and have fun!!

Olders kids are actually really nice (most). Some may be intimidating, but they are never mean in anyway. Infact, alot of freshman and sophmores are friends with the upper class. Highschool, I think, is when all the little middleschool cliques start to interact outside the clique and they eventually go away (at least in my school)

Homework is a piece of cake. The only reason kids may stay up til 3 is because 1. They procrastinated and played on the computer all day (aka me! haha)

2. They have afterschool activities. Some in my school go really late, for example, I do stage crew and when it comes close to the show, we are at school til 11:00 doing practice. Then you have to shower, do hw, study, eat etc. But hw could also depend on the class you take (ex, AP classes get more hw and harder stuff than regular and basic classes for the most part.)

Highschool is really great, I have to say. In middleschool, I was fat shy girl. In highschool, I am normal sized (could lose 10 lbs though, haha!), who is more outgoing and made alot more awesome friends. Just enjoy highschool. It maybe college that you should worry about!! hahaha Just kidding!!:)

If you have any more questions, just send me a message!!

Hey!

I am a freshman in college now.  I personally had a lot of work but nothing compared to what I have now.  During high school I stayed up until about 12-1 every night.  But dont worry, not all people stay up this late. I lived 1 hour from my school, so I lost time traveling. I also played 12 seasons (every season for four years) of varsity sports, which limited my time.  I don't regret it though!

I would advise you to get involved in sports, theater, community service, clubs, whatever interests you.  You'll be able to interact with older kids in a less scary way.
