Freshwater Fish (animals)
Hi there...
Welcom to the 'FRESHWATER' forum. I'm not an expert by any means, but I thought it would be great if we could ask questions about our little freshwater friends.... or maybe give advice to those who are new at having fish or other freshwater animals.
Below I will attatch some links that I think are helpful. If you have any links that you'd like to share.... please post them here and I will copy and paste them in the original post.
Thanks for joining....

(i just started this group.... so I'm currently gathering the links) please be patient with me and STILL feel free to start posting. I'll edit this forum shortly
ok.. so here's my dilemma (not that anybody even reads this or comes into this group) BUT...
i started off with two snails from the pet store... (got them about 6 months ago) and now i have like 100 of those little turds!!
i got them to put into the fishs tank insteadof an alge eater. BIG mistake! now i have tons of them. i wish they (the pet store people) had told me i'd have a snail problem eventually.
i don't know what to do with them! i certainly can't kill them... (because i don't have the heart) but they're multiplying like freakin crazy!!
any suggestions? (in case someone DOES happen to read this)
UPDATE: about the over-population-of-snails situation!! YAY!!
WARNING: it's a long story
i spent almost an entire HOUR cleaning out my fish tank and holy crap was it over populated with snails.
about a month ago, i cleaned out the entire tank and soaked EVERYTHING with clorox (after gathering up all the snails of course and giving them away to various pet-stores and taking some to ponds) but here i am.... one month later with an OVER POPULATION of snails again!! orignally i started out with two snails at first, and those two snails turned into several, and those several turned in to a bunch, and those bunches turned into hundreds!! holy crap!!
at first i thought the buggers eggs must have survive the clorox or something. so today i re soaked everyting in clorox and rinsed everything VERY VERY well and i'm let everything sun dry as we speak. gonna let them dry outside for two days.
the ONLY thing i'm doing that's different THIS TIME around is that i changed the filter! i didn't change it last time because i had JUST put a new one it the week before, so it didn't need changing.
anyway.... today i decided that i'll go ahead and change the filter and HOLY F*CKEN FRENCH FRIES, BAT MAN!! there were hundreds of little egg sacs in there!!! i swear i'm not exaggerating because i counted them.... but stopped counting when i hit 250 (and i wasn't even finished) i'm thinking that their HAD to be AT LEAST 700-800 egg sacs in there!! and each egg sac usually has between 5-15 little buggers in them just waiting to be born!!
OMG...
so it looks like i FINALLY figured outwhere the little snailies were coming from. nothing survived the colorox... they were hiding in the filtration system!!
i cleaned out and poured clorox in the the filtration thingy and threw the filter away. once it's dry, i'll stick a new refill-filter in the thingy and all should be good!!
my hands are all chapped and crusty from the clorox :( but at least we're not gonna have billions of snailies roaming the tank
sorry bout the long rant/post. just wanted to update because i noticed that others have joined the group :)
thanks for joining by the way
