All right, I'm a grown woman and I should know the answer to this....but I don't.

When the time changed I completely lost my gumption to get up and cook myself a steaming hot bowl of oats. I'm wondering if this is something I can cook at night, fridge it, and reheat in the morning? I'd also love to try quinoa, but have the same question...thanks for your advice!

Yes you can cook it the night before and then reheat next day OR you can cook in a slow cooker overnight (the original oats not fast cooking).  OR why not try instant whole grain oatmeal and make it in the morning.

I love steel cut oats but don't have 30 minutes to cook a batch each morning.  So on Sundays I cook 5-6 servings and divide them up into single serving bowls and refrigerate.  Each morning I have one ready to take to work.  I break it up in a bowl and microwave for 1 minute.  Ready to eat.  And so much better than instant.  I refrigerate for up to a week without any problems.
I use this as my morning snack, since I leave for work so darn early and it's soo good for you.  Hope this helps.

Thank you both, you've helped me get my oats back :)

I cook my oats (quick-cooking oats) at night and stick 'em in the fridge.  In the morning they are kinda solidified so I put them in the microwave for 40sec, stab it/stir it put it back in for 40sec add a splash of milk and stir some more and it has a perfect texture, so yes!

This evening I cooked up 8 day's worth.  I refrigerate the cooked cereal in a bowl, cut out a wedge every morning and microwave it.  I've done it with oats and with Bob's Mighty Tasty (gluten free cereal made from rice, corn, sorghum and buckwheat), and would guess that it would work with any hot cereal.

Whoo-Hoo!! I shouldn't have waited so long to ask - thank you all!

or a nice change in the summer is a cold version of overnight oats.

Put the oats in a bowl over night (can add dried fruit/nuts seeds as well) and cover with milk. In the morning take it out, stir it around a bit and it should be a really nice thick consistency - but has the added benefit of not having to be cooked! Its a good way of getting your oats in on days when its hot outside and you don't feel like a hot breakfast.

Its nice to add some fresh fruit on top in the morning as well.

Of course you can. If you add a bit extra liquid in the morning, oatmeal reheats in the microwave just fine.

i prefer to cook them the night before and heat them up in the morning.  the sitting overnight gives it the perfect texture for me.  i like my oats soft but also thick, solid and hearty.

I like to cook them up in the crock pot. I use steel cut oats and add milk, apples, honey and cinnamon. I put it all in a large bowl that fits down inside of the crock pot. I fill the water up around the bowl. This acts as a double boiler and makes cleanup and storage much easier. So super yummy and can be reheated and is especially nice if people are coming to visit. Even my daughter who hates oatmeal thought this was very tasty!
