How come fried pickles aren't in the database? ;-)
Sunday we had brunch on our way home - I chose a sensible salad to begin the "detox" from the weekend splurge. BUT the restaurant had fried pickles on the menu. I don't normally eat fried foods anymore, however, my DH and I just couldn't pass this up. I've never heard of fried pickles!!!! They came with a ranch dipping sauce.
I have to say they were awesome! Salty, crunchy, sour... and unlike french fries, the pickles don't absorb the oil. If I was pregnant, I'd crave them every single day.
I am up 3 lbs but surely most of that is water, from too much sodium this weekend. (not just the pickles - everything else too!)
Ah, well. It was worth it.
I don't think fried pickles are something you can get just everywhere ... we had them in Louisiana and they are very delicious! However, all the ones I've had have been battered and fried, so they would absorb oil.
Were yours JUST pickles, no kind of crunchy crust?
I've also heard of friend twienkies (spelled right?) and i dont understand why we would want to make something thats already unhealthy....even more unhealthy.
I was about to say that fried pickles aren't in the database because they're nasty, but there are a lot of things in the database I don't like....;-)
Oh, and the idea of those fried twinkies is downright nauseating. I think it's a southern thing though - there's also fried green tomatoes. (eeeewwww...)
I don't know about fried twinkies. I have heard of fried pound cake, but not until about five years ago (a co-worker made some) and I lived in Louisiana for all my life until a couple of months ago, so I don't know if that's a southern thing.
Fried pickles are actually quite delicious (as in don't knock 'em til you try 'em) - my husband will even eat them on occasion, and he doesn't care for pickles normally.
Twinkies however, ugh - fried or not. I can't believe I ever ate those things when I was little. When I was about 25 I ate one for the first time in a long while, and I could seriously taste the chemicals in it. There are enough preservatives in those things to embalm a body. Gross.
They are good. Fried Oreos are awesome also. I've only had them once at a restaruant that closed.
I have tried fried pickles, so I feel okay knocking them - they're just not my thing.
However, if we're talking about good fried things (which I don't normally go for anymore, but I still have weaknesses), Jalepeno poppers are good, if you get them at the right place (filled with good mexican blanco cheese, not cream cheese). :-)
