Friend bring me a milkshake to class =(

Quote  |  Reply

So, here i am today, I ate all my calories for the day,

its 7 oclock, im in English class, and my friend runs in late.

The whole class stares, but at what she brings, to Oreo Cookie Milk shakes from Jack N' The Box. They stare as she brings it to me, and then at me.

Everyone was like "ohhhh oh nice of her"

Well here i am, my drink, i didnt know if i was supposed to be pissed off (since she knows im on a strick diet and trying to change my eating habbits) or to be grateful (since she spend money on me and thought about me)

So, here i go, i drink my milkshake (or else it would have been i waist of money  and she might get hurt) The first two zips, fine, i still had saved some calories for a treat or just in case something came up.

But then when i finished everything, i felt soooooooOOOOO guilty and angry!

I told ehr not to be giving me things, she sees how much ive worked out and been on this diet and for how long.

She knows that when i pass toooooo much my daily calories i have to go work at the gym.

Well guesss what? This milk shake thinggie has 870 calories!!!!

And now i have eaten over my daily intake, i have eaten a total of 2,051 calories!

And have not gone to the gym the whole day since ive been busy in school.

Its 8:30 pm, idk if i should go and work out 600 calories, and cut from tomorrows intake, or just take the 870 calories from tomorrow intake =(

Plus, i feel like, i totally did wrong, and even feel like giving up.

Don't give up, just try again tomorrow and make better choices.

You're not going to gain from one lousy milkshake. You would have to eat 3500 above your TOTAL BURN to gain, at worst you broke even today and you might not have lost .15 of a lb.

If you drank the whole thing I'm assuming you enjoyed it? A small treat every now and again wont kill you.

Next time just leave the thing on your desk and pitch it after class if you really don't want it. It's not your fault she bought you something you didn't want. Would you rather her waste the money, or you waste the calories? She knows you don't want things like that, so it would really be her own fault.

First of all, don't worry about it.  It's just one day.

Second, next time don't worry about hurting your friend.  She KNOWS you're trying to eat well, but she brought you junk food anyhow.  It doesn't sound like she cares much about you and your goals.  You can express your gratitude that she thought of you, remind her why you can't/won't accept whatever treat, and give it to someone else in the class.

Third - possibly most important - Are you sure you're eating enough?  I don't know your stats or exactly how much you're eating, but I urge you to use the tools here to make sure you're eating enough... if you haven't already.

If you ate ~2000 cals and think that you have to work off (sounds like the 'extra') ~600 cals, then you're normal intake is ~ 1200 cals plus exercise.  That's just enough to keep a sedentary person on the brink of malnutrition.

Do not date out 870 calories from your intake today.  It sounds like you're already quite low on your calorie intake (from the sounds of it around 1200).  You need to remember that when a day is over, it's over.  You can always do a bit more exercise the next day, but just let it pass.  Most likely, you're burning enough that the extra 870 didn't make much of a dent, if any at all.  Just think of it as a treat! :)

You referred to English class, so I'm going to hazard a guess that means you're still in high school - which makes you a teenager.  Before the milkshake, you were only at 1181 calories - which is not enough for an adult woman; never mind a teenager.  So, your friend did you a favour; she saw that you weren't eating enough and got you some food to help you out.  Was it the healthiest of choices?  No.  Would you have been better off eating a PB&banana sandwich?  Yes.  But you needed at least 500 more calories in your day anyway.

So, no, do not deduct 870 calories from today's intake.  In fact, please *add* 500 calories to your planned intake and stick to that.  Teenage girls (and that includes anyone up to 21) need a bare minimum of 1500 calories every single day.

Don't worry about it.  An over 2000 calorie day every once in a while may be good for you.  For example, I try to eat about 1600 calories a day.  I find that if I stick to that for about 2 weeks I stop losing.  But, if every 7-10 days I add a day where I eat about 1800-2000 calories I never get to that point where it has been a week and I haven't lost anything.

Also, talk to your friend.  Tell her that you appreciate the thought she put into getting you a treat and that it was delicious but you felt like crap afterward (physically and emotionally).  Explain that that crappy feeling is why you are trying to eat better, because you don't want to feel like crap, you want to feel healthy.

One way to handle future situations when someone brings you a treat would be to eat (or drink) half of it, then offer the other half to someone in your class.  This would be easy to do with something like a cookie - a little more difficult with a milkshake, but someone might take it. If not, you could throw out the second half.

Then, you get to enjoy a nice treat, you get to share the treat and spread the generosity around, and you only take in half as many calories (it's a lot easier to work a 400 calorie milkshake into your day than a 800 calorie one!).

Susie,I imagine she's in college since she was in a class at 7pm, but you may be right that her target calories for the day are not high enough.

Heidobala,  I echo everyone else here... don't stress out too much.   Not allowing yourself *any* wiggle room to "mess up" is a surefire way to fall off the wagon. Today is a new day.

This is tough, but I try to do what "naturally thin" people do in these situations. Most importantly, don't get super anal about it and flip  and make a scene that you don't want it b/c you're on a diet etc. Drink some, I don't even think you need to drink half and stop. If they ask you why you didn't finish, you just say "ugh I can't finish anymore I'm stuffed!" No one wants you to stuff yourself. I find that people don't really push as much if you go the route, instead of the "I'm watching what I eat.." route. Its not like you asked for it, so for you not to finish makes sense-you could have just eaten. This way also keeps me from overdoing it on these types of things in the future. If I have a few tastes, I don't want to shove in the junk in a week. Moderation is a wonderful thing!

It's not your fault if she wastes her money.

You were in English class???  I hope they teach you how to spell.
