Friend needs help.

My bf's brother's wife is clearly anorexic, we hadn't seen her in months and she had lost way too much weight. Her eyes are sunken, she looks older, her cheekbones are portruding and you can see almost all her ribs and her vertabrae sticks out underneath her shirt. I mentioned something to bf's brother, and he said they were aware of this. The wife was going to gain weight. Well we keep seeing her and her condition seems to be getting worse. She doesn't appear thinner, but she is so lethargic she could barely keep her eyes open. I'm waiting to see bald patches, and to hear that she's in the hospital for a heart condition. I feel very sorry for her and I want to help in some way, but I don't want to butt in any more than I have--but nothing seems to be happening. Any suggestions?

Tell her that you care for her and are concerned for her health; reassure her that you're there for her if she ever needs you.

Not much else you can do, unfortunately.

This might sound crazy and unsypathetic.
but when you next see her, simply say - "My god, you look awful".

I guarentee this will help.

what katy said.  saying "you're too thin" will translate as "i am successful! i did it!" so don't go there.  a negative thing like "you look icky" will be much more effective in getting your worries across.  hearing that they are too thin is exactly what an ed person wants to hear - and its encouraging.
