Friendly's - Lunch Dilemma
I'm pretty certain that i'm going out to lunch to Friendly's tomorrow. I looked at the website for their nutritional info and was absolutely horrified - everything is extremely high in calories and that's before you even add the "sides" like fries. Even the sides of vegetables like broccoli are high in calories and fat. The only potential thing I see on the menu is the grilled chicken deluxe sandwich. It's listed at 640 calories with 32 grams of fat. I realize that to most people this does not seem like a "potential" option; however, that total includes some sort of "roasted red pepper sauce." If I were to get the sandwich plain (i.e. bread, grilled chicken, lettuce and tomato), do you think that it would eliminate a lot of the fat? I find it extremely hard to believe that a grilled chicken sandwich could have 32 grams of fat. If not, do you know of anything else that could be good? The salads don't look too appetizing because there are no low calorie dressings so I'm in a bit of a bind. Any advice?

*EDIT: I realize that this sounds immature but I just noticed something. Whenever I was younger and used to go to Friendly's a lot, I would always get the kid's macaroni and cheese. I stopped getting it when I became health conscious because I thought/assumed salads and grilled chicken sandwiches would be more calorie friendly. However, I noticed that the kids mac and cheese has 340 calories and 11 grams of fat. Even though it's slightly high in fat for my taste, I could theoretically get that with a side of mixed vegetables (110) instead of fries and the meal would not be that bad. Again, any advice?

At any restaurant where healthier things aren't available, I do usually get kids portions. Friendly's is good because they do allow you kid sized portions even if you're older. They also have some healthier options on the kids menu too, substitutions for the fries, so that's good. It's probably better than any of the sandwiches.
You Know - You Can Always Modify Your Menu Orders -- waiters/waitresses are willing to accommodate to your needs just as long as you are nice when you ask for your specifications.
On the other hand, seeing as how you need more calories anyway, you could always eat one of their regular meals. A regular restaurant meal every now and then won't cause you to gain weight.
Hrm... I realize you already had lunch there already, but next time what you can do is get a salad and ask for a plain vinegar/lemon dressing or just for them to put the dressing on the side.
I would have gotten the chicken sandwhich, just without the roll/bread.
