I find it hard to diet around my friends. They feel that it is unnecessary and even though some claim they are on a diet, I find that they just lead to me eating a lot when around them. Does anyone else feel the same way? I feel that I don't need to flaunt that I'm on a diet and prefer to be more quiet about it. What are ways I can avoid over-eating when socializing? I already try chewing sugar-free come or drinking water. I don't want to have to become a loner to lose this weight again haha..

Happy Holidays!

Eat slower than everyone else and make it a point to do so.

Hiy :)

Here's a few pointers that may help, but everyones different.

First of all, chewing gum is big mistake to make. When chewing gum, you become hungrier! You stomach thinks it's getting food but it's acctually not. So your more likely to eat food. Also even though it may be sugar free it still contains calories. So maybe sucking on a sugar free hard boiled sweet would be better, same reason for doing so, but you stomach will be getting food and your less likely to indulge on food after. I find mints work too.

Secondly, even though your with your friends it doesn't mean you have to eat what they are eating. Try bringing your own healthy snacks or meals along with you, or suggesting a place to eat where you know they do low calorie, healthy foods/snacks that will suit you and your friends too.

I know how you feel, I'm at college and most of the food there is atrociously unhealthy, but i take a packed lunch with me and when i want a snack i only ever buy a low fat cereal bar. It stops my cravings for chocolate  or sweets and is low in calorie intake. My friends are really big eaters to, and they eat crisps, chocolate and biscuits all the time and are always offering me them. I just say no thank you and prep talk myself so not to slip up. My partner is also a bad influence he hates veggies or fruit and only likes junk food, i find myself having to eat the crap and end up sacrificing most of my nice meals.

I hope this helps you, i really do. Just keep you chin up, i know you can do it because anyone can. It just takes lots of planning and motivation. Just think you'll be happier with your self in the long run if you don't over do it. Let me know how it goes :)

YES! i totally get where your coming from. Liek completly okay think about this

at the end of the day

it's only food. And your gonna regret it later so just attempt to just liek LIMIT it. Because at night you cvan think ohh weellll i didnt get to eat but hey i just consumed 600 less calroies then them

now they're the ones having to run for hours.

and then they could be the diet loners.

I can really relate to you. All my friends eat unhealthy, and have a completely different diet than i do. When im around them, i try not to eat the unhealthy foods, but most likely i end up eating them anyways...

The way i usually stop myself from eating the unhealthy foods when im around my friends is to drink water. It fills me up, and that way i usually dont over eat as well. =)

And hopefully your friends will eventually support your dieting/eating healthier! Their support could really motivate you more, on your way to success!

Goodluck!

my friends will get a fattening drink from starbuck's, then say let's go get pizza, then buy candy... all in one time going out.

the only thing i can do is always pick healthy snacks and eat slowly, so that i'm not just sitting around while everyone is eating. like get fruit salad and water and have that while they're eating all of their stuff.

When I'm  with my friends they always want to eat unhealthy foods. Sometimes I feel that they do it on purpose, cause they know that I've been wanting to lose weight for awhile now.

I know how you feel entirely.  What I do is I try to stay as far away from the food as possible.  Sit on the other end of the room, turn down anything that's offered to me, remind myself that eating the junk there will not help me achieve my goals.  Maybe sucking on a mint would help, as it was suggested above.
