my friends are making me fat!

Quote  |  Reply
ok... a lot of my friends that i hang out with on a regular day-to-day basis are slim, but they eat a tonnnn (especially unhealthy food).  And they make it seem like it's no big deal, so i end up eating more than i should... it's really frustrating... especially when i've eaten well all day and then go hang out with my friends and basically throw my whole day out the window!

does anyone else have this problem? how do i stay healthy when they're eating like pigs!?

I know what you mean! All my friends are thin but eat like crap. Its hard to resist when you see them all doing it and still looking great. But I've been pretty good lately..
Dont eat as much/what they eat... ?

get new friends

Well not only are you young but you are physically active. If your swimming is really important you should take the initiative to eat healthy so that your swimming ability is much better. And hey just cause swimming season is over doesn't mean you stop swimming continue to go three or four times a weeks to keep active and improve your strokes. As well if they are your true friends take them aside and tell them you are trying to lose weight and eat healthier and would appreciate it if you could go somewhere healthier to eat. If they do not comply either discontinue going to lunch/dinner with them or stay at home where you can control what you eat. Just cause your friends eat really unhealthy doesn't mean you do to, it takes a lot of self control to eat smaller and healthier portions, a true test of your determination to lose weight/be healthier. Good luck!!

I'm going thru the same thing. I've been eating healthy but my bf doesn't. He eats late at night, he will drink soda and not work out. It makes me want to eat and it's hard! I will eat healthy for most of the day and then see him and fall off, but lately i have been doing good controling myself. Since ive been eating healthy for a week most of my cravings have gone away and i can see him eat and not feel like it now.

I know what you mean, I had the same problem. What I did was try and make it into a competition of eating healthy and working out. Boys love competition so it was really easy to get mine to follow along. :p

hahaha. yeah it is really hard. a lot of my friends maintain their weights no problem, they barely workout maybe 2 times a week which consists of 30 minutes on an elliptical. i on the otherhand eat really healthy during the school year, but i workout 6-7 days a week, cardio for at least an hour if not more everyday and weights 3 times a week. they eat whatever they want, but the moment i slip up i'll gain a little bit and especially now that its summer and i hang out with them everyday and its not scheduled meals, more like im hungry lets go to BK or lets makea pizza. i usually just try to not eat so much during the day if were going out at night and only eat half or split with someone. some of my friends aren't huge pigs though so its nice, but im surprised. lately i've been able to maintain my weight no problem going out wiht friends and stuff. just make healthier choices at restaurants. if you're at a friends house and there's let's say pizza, have like 3 squares and blot the top off.

always carry gum!! haha if i know im going to some of my guys friends house where they chow down on pizzas, ice cream, taquitos and junk food galore with midnite runs to fast foodplaces i just say i just popped a piece of gum in my mouth.

omg!

thats exactly how I feel I sometimes don't even want to hang out with them because I'm afraid of ruining my whole day but I  just tell them I'm not hungry and stay strong but sometimes is so  hard and its the same with my family aghh i hate it

it could be worse. like your friends talk you into "sharing" huge plates/packets of junk, eat about a mouthful, and expect you to clear the rest.

if you don't have the misfortune of having to share the plate of food with one-biters, then just don't eat the unhealthy food that your friends are, or have it in moderation! It might seem weird or hard to do so, but nobody is really going to fault you if you don't take a handful of crisps out of that bag of chips that's going round the table every time it passes you... especially if it's a pretty large group of people. you might have to endure some 'is that all you're eating?!' comments though.
