Hi, Hope.  My name is Mariea and I just joined this site today as well.  I need to lose about 40 - 50 lbs myself and I am really terrified that I can't do it.  I just turned 50 on Dec. 11th, and really need to lose this weight for health reasons, not to mention the fact that I miss being slender.   Sounds a little crazy I know but that's how I feel.  Hope we can chat from time to time to keep each other encouraged and motivated.  I look forward to chatting again.

Hi Hope. I justed joined yesterday too. I turned 55 this month and kind of feel old and fat and over the hill...I hope we can encourage each other...Cheryl
Same here.  Just joined and have at least 40 pounds to lose and I'm 61.  So with mutual help and a common goal I don't see why we couldn't succeed!  I'm convinced that motivation and encouragement can help us go a long way!  It's a new start.   Loumi

Me too!  I just joined.  I don't have a lot of weight to lose, but I am short - so the extra pounds go right to the belly and hips.  I"m 57 and do not want to feel "frumpy" as the phrase goes.  I'd love to talk with others and help one another get fit and trim - we can do it!

Hi Hope.

I'm going to be 54 in March, I have 95 pounds to lose, and the doctors are still trying to figure out what's wrong with me... been tested for rheumatoid arthritis, PAD, to no avail.  I just recently watched a show about metabolic syndrome on our PBS channel....and thought, hmmm.... I have a lot of the symptoms.  I go back to the doctor on the 22nd.... we'll see.

I'd love to talk/support you.

Good Luck!

Hi I am ladybug

I am a 53 year old person who needs to lose 50 plus pounds, health reason, aslo,

I love to cook but also love to eat. Would love to hear from you. Happy New Year,

Count me in! I just turned 51 two days after Christmas and I am shocked at how the pounds keep creeping on, even though I THOUGHT I led an active lifestyle! I did some research and the about.com site thinks I should lose 20 pounds for my size and age ... I would be THRILLED if I lost ten, 20 would be incredible. Twenty would get me to my college weight! I walk every day (with five dogs) and I am still parenting young kids (11 and 9) with four kids out of the house. The oldest one will probably bless us with grandkids in a couple of years.

I am subscribing to the mantra of "If I bite it, I write it" ... something I read on a diet site a year or so ago. I am a counter-eater ... and I need to reframe my portion control. I eat reasonably healthy .... just too much. I am also going to religiously wear my New Lifestyle pedometer and monitor my calories and activity that way as well.

I'm motivated now, but I know it will wear off all too soon. I look forward to journaling with you ladies!

One post script ... the OP asked for recipes ... I use lots of recipes from "Skinny Soups."

Here's a link on Amazon ...

http://www.amazon.com/Skinny-Soups-Ruth-Glick /dp/1572840048/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s= books&qid=1199203672&sr=1-1

I also have other "Skinny" books, but we eat lots of soup in winter. The recipes are straightforward and delicious. I haven't made one that we didn't like.

hi, good to meet you.  i, too, am 52, and want to lose weight for health reasons.  i've been eating really well for the last 5 1/2 years but due to menopause and a silly relapse into dieting (instead of eating healthy), have regained quite a bit of weight.

calorie counting works quite well for me so i thought i'd try this site.

my biggest problem is to do this calorie counting without becoming obsessed with it.

one thing i'd like to do is to have at least a few meals a week that i take simply because it's nutrition (not because it tastes good).

encouragement - so, what does  that look like for you, hope?  how would you like people to support you?

HELLO THERE!

IT SEEMS THAT 52 IS THE MAGIC NUMBER.....TODAY IS MY FIRST DAY ON THIS SITE AND I TOO AM LOOKING FOR SUPPORT.  PLEASE READ MY JOURNAL ENTRY FOR TODAY.

53 here, this is my first day on CC. 50 plus to lose. Thin most my life til surgical menopause. Would like to be thinner for my middle son's wedding in Aug. Not much of a cook, my hubby and I eat out mostly, empty nester too, last son moved out last July. Hoping for success.

I know this is a late reply.  I was going through the libary and you caught my eye.  I will gladly support you, unless you have already lost all your weight.  If thats so congradulations.

Hi, here is another late reply...I am 53 and wanting to lose about 50 pounds also.  My father was diabetic and I am worried that I am headed in that direction.  I was recently diagnosed with COPD, quit smoking cigarettes back in Feb...HOORAY!  But I need to get more active and get some of this weight off.

Good luck to all of you!

Congrads. on the stop smoking.  I am 48 and diabetic.  My ac1 score for diabetis was over 7.something.  I started about 10 months ago calorie counting and walking,  I have lost 28lbs. and my ac1 for diabetis is down to 5.9 which is in the normal range for people who don't have diabetis yet.  My dr. told me if I continue doing what I am doing I may be able to go off my meds.  So I urge to take charge of situation now before you have to try to fix it.  It is no fun taking blood sugar leverls all the time as well as really having to watch what you eat.  I also need to lose about 39 more lbs..  I have been diagnoised diabetic for over two years now.  So you can reverse the problem, but do it before you are forced to.

Hi k192, thanks for the info and encouragement.  I think it is great that you are able to get your diabetes under control.  I need to make sure I don't go down that road because I remember seeing all the problems my dad had from his diabetes.  I think part of my problem is I am too sedentary, I need to move more and get more exercise.  So in addition to gardening, I have been walking the dog more, she is fat and needs the exercise too!

My name is Tammy Jo.  I am just depressed.  I have tried everything and still not loosing.  Tell more about myself after I get home from work.  Time to work.  I want/need some help.  Not sure how to go about on the site.  Thanks for any help.
