Hi, I'm 24, 5'8". I'm currently 243 pounds. I want to eventually be at least 120. but my goal for my wedding June 2010 is 160, which was what I was about 3 years ago.

I definitely need some help and support along the way!

Hi! You can do it for the wedding for sure! I am very similar to you...I am 23, but I am only 5'1" and right now I am 229. I started at 237 about 10 days ago. My goal is 135 though because I am Hispanic and 120 would be great, but probably impossible for us Cubans. :-) I am also very big boned, as they say. I really have always been overweight, but when I got married in July of 2007 I was about 185 I think. My husband is a great motivator, he's doing it with me. He's like 5'11" and 180 though, so not exactly overweight. We go on the treadmill at least 45 minutes every single day and I just keep to 1,200 calories a day. It's been really working for me so far! We also started doing some 5 lb. weights for the fat arms haha and crunches. I've been looking for support and friends too! Where are you from?

think_th1n - 120 for 5'8 is really thin, I would say borderline unheathly. Your goal to get down to 160 by june is approx 2.5 lbs per week, which is in a heathly range and I think you could do it.

Hi think, penny, and dana :)

I understand wanting to lsoe weight for a bgi event, especially a wedding! Congrats! Just make sure you are switching to a forever, healthy lifestyle. There are so many women that lose weight for a wedding, and afterwards, they feel they have nothing else to look forward to, a goal to reach, and end up putting weight back on plus some.

think: 2.5 pounds a week is a lot to handle for every week, but not impossible. It means you need a calorie deficit of 1250 calories a day. I have been keeping about 1200 a day for several week and losing about that amount. I was told by my doctor and a trainer at the gym to do 1200-1500 calories a day intake food (healthy!) My burn meter default is at about 1950. I average about 1100 calories a day, and do about 400 calories worth at the gym, almost every day. From about everything I have read - it says a 1000 calories deficit a day should be the most any person does - and for several weeks now I HAVE felt like crap. I did start taking a bit more calories, closer to 1200 and I think I feel better. We are always here to support and motivate you!

penny: I am currently 5'1.75" (yes that .75 is very important!) in August the dr had me at 226.5 and 2 weeks ago the gym scale read 211lb. I started CC and the gym together mid September. My husband is also a very fit guy but he mostly drives me insane if he goes to the gym with me. IMO 5lb weights are a great place to start but you will need to add much heavy weights to build mroe muscle (which will ultimately raise the amount of calories you burn by default daily) this being said - my trianer at the gym started me on very low weights compared to other areas, for my arms... and ZOMG my arms are weak weak weak. He started me at 50, and I think I'm gonna drop to to 30 or even less.

Thinkthin,

How nice to meet you.  You want to lose about 10 pounds a month which is VERY doable.   Congratulations on your upcoming marriage.

And here is a word for you.  Please make losing weight a lifelong change and not just "I want to look beautiful on my wedding".  I looked beautiful on my wedding and 6 months later I started blimping up.  And a child or two later and stresses of life.  Now I'm 57 and still overweight (for a little while longer, but not forever).

So, make changes you can live with and change your life forever.

OK.  Lecture over.  Welcome again.  If there is anything I can do to help, please holler!

Hello Pennylane,

It is so nice to meet you.  You are already doing great!!! If you need anything, just give a yell.

 thanks for the comment =)

well 122 pounds would be in the "healthy range" bmi... the bottom part of the healthy range, but still within the healthy range! but anyways, i will stop once i'm satisfied... which might be 140, 130, 120... i dunno... 120 sounds good but then again i've never been below 150 at this height, so i dunno.

I'm from Vancouver BC Canada, but have now been living in Alberta for the past year... what about you?

thanks! :)

oh, do i have to quote to reply to people?

thinkthin,

You don't have to quote, but it helps to use their name at the top of your message so we know who you are talking to.  This forum isn't set up real well for conversation, but we have to work with what we have.  Thanks.

120lbs at 5'8" is too low - every picture in your gallery is of an emaciated girl with an apparent eating disorder.

CC will help you lose weight in a healthy manner if you use the tools they provide.

Good luck!

kdh:

Thanks for the advice! I actually don't know how tall I am, either 5'1'' or maybe 5'2''. Yes, I want to eventually up the weights, but I really can't afford a gym membership and so that's all I have at home for now. Plus I don't have a doctor either. I also shoot for 1200 calories a day, but it usually falls under (maybe even as low as 900-1100). Is it bad to only eat like 900 or 1000? Do I need more?

think thin:

I am from Jacksonville, FL...but I have ALWAYS wanted to visit Canada! I am a little scared of the cold though because I lived in Miami, FL all my life and actually just this year moved to North Florida (which, of course, isn't truly COLD, but for a Miami girl like me it is). I haven't experienced a winter here yet, so we shall see if I can handle it. :-) I would love to plan a trip to Canada one day - maybe in the summer!

Texmom:

Thanks for the support!
