Friggin' Bubble Tea!
I looovveee bubble tea, I always though it was reasonably low-cal, but those tapioca pearls really add up!! DAMN!
I've never heard of this what is it?
What in the blazes is bubble tea? Tapioca in tea? Now that is like putt'n chocolate pudd'n in orange juice..huggers and waiting to find out
I guess this is where I get validation that Canada really does have a different identity than the states.
Bubble Tea is a popular Asian drink (mainly Chinese), we have a high Chinese population so we have lots of Bubble Tea shops, especially in Toronto.
Think of them as a new wave chic coffee club.
It's generally green tea, with pearls of Tapioca (about the size of a large beluga egg), it can have fruit extracts or jellies added, some add milk to it, it's generally served cold, but there are also a growing amount of hot varieties.
It's the most lovely drink on earth... but the friggin' tapioca is really high-cal.... blast!

That sounds interesting... I have not seen this in any of the coffee/tea houses around here.... you have my interest peeked!! :O) .... I even like the name.... bubble tea...
I dont know about that but if it comes this way I might give it a little taste only if it has fruit and not tapi..pudding stuff...yuck....thanks for the information that was so sweet of you to share..huggers to all the tea drinkers
I'm a little surprized that it hasn't hit the states yet, maybe in Seattle, or New York?
The tapioca is the best part, but it's not like tapioca in pudding, completely different thing... it's really hard to explain.

we have bubble drinks here in austin. they are so weird and good. mango slushy w/ bubbles rocks! plus you get a giant straw (lik 1/2-in diameter) so you can suck em up! (not so fond of the jellies)
We have them here in the Maryland/Virginia area. I have also seen them in the San Diego area. It's good but takes some getting used to.
There we go the states does have them!!
Yeah, they are a bit of an odd thing at first, but the variety is astounding from, green tea, black tea, slushy, Milky, hot, cold, tapioca, jelly etc..

wow that does sound interesting. I'm going to be on the lookout from now on so I can try one :)
Thanks!
Thanks!
Yes we have them in Seattle too! well Tacoma anyway you can find them at food festivals if you can resist the really bad foods there and I have seen them at chinese and vietnamese restaurants.
How bad, exactly, is bubble tea? I LOVE the tapioca bubbles, so it breaks my heart to find out that they are high cal! :( I knew something so tasty and fun couldn't be good for me :-P
You all haven't had bubble teas?
That is insane. I live in California and there arent neccesarily shops that a person can go to specifically for a bubbletea, or at least not that I have found but you can get them at some vietnameese places. Typically they are sold at businesses that one wouldn't typically go to unless they knew the area, sorry to generalize but just thought i'd add my two cents.

tell them not to add the tapioca when i drink it i usually order a honey dew one with pineapple jelly instead of tapioca
It's in Boston. I have a bubble tea outlet in an asian food court around the corner from my apartment.
Everyone I know loves the stuff, I don't really care for fancy tea.

Yep, it's in Boston and my kids love the stuff. Had their first bubble tea over 5 years, so it's been around for awhile. They also have it in San Fran (in Chinatown) because we had some on our last vacation.
omg i loveeee watermelon bubble tea.. they make that 1 with fresh watermelon n its amazingggg..
Oh goodness I love bubble tea soooo much! (and I'm from CT... I learned about it from my friend in Alabama). I haven't had any in about 4 months, but you sure have me craving it now!
i used to drink it every SINGLE day! hahah, with extra pearls too. & i thought it was healthy as there was tea in it! i've stopped drinking it after knowing the massive amount of sugar they put in just for one serving.
[psst, rumor has it that 7 of those bloody tapioca pearls is 100cals! -faints-]
