Frozen bananas = healthy and surprisingly delicious & quite ice cream-like!
People have said before that you can freeze bananas (or other fruit) and eat them as treats. I've done this with berries, but not bananas, because I really don't like bananas very much. BUT, frozen bananas are entirely different! I froze some, because they were getting way too ripe, and I ate some, and it was soooo good! It melts almost like ice cream, and it's really sweet and creamy too! And this is coming from someone who doesn't even like bananas. Just thought I would share.
Or blend them?
Or just freeze them whole?
I find them very hard after I freeze them...
I didn't do anything special to them at all. I think no matter what you do, it'll freeze hard anyway. I just cut off a bit and let it thaw for a couple of minutes. I like them kind of hard though. It makes it hard to eat too much at once. The problem with fresh bananas or other fruit is that I can eat a ton at once.
mmm you know what I do? I cut the banana in half and put a popsicle stick on each end. I freeze it for like an hour, then I roll it with either sf syrup, nuts, peanut butter, or even melted chocolate and put it back in the freezer for a while. it's amazing.
OMG ANGELEYES!!! (I will immediately go freeze my almost-bad bananas to roll in pb)
Question: do you leave them in the peel when you froze them (OP) ? What do you guys put them in to freeze, a plastic bag? My freezer is really full, so I'd have to put it in some container otherwise I'd get bananas on everything lol.
I peel them before I freeze them. If you don't, it's reallyyy hard to peel once it's frozen. You could put them in a plastic bag. That's what I did.
Freezing them and then blending them in smoothies makes it very milk shakey.
mmmmm....me too!! I like to freeze the for a while then blend up with some diet hot chocolate powder....very chocolate ice-cream like ;)
Running to my freezer ..banana's in hand!!![]()
kankan- I use wax paper so they don't stick. Then take out a plate, put as much pb in it as you want, then in the mic for like 15 secs. It'll be more gooey, then roll the banana on the plate. YUM. freeze againnnn!
I made frozen bananas for dessert tonight (after bbq tofu- my hubby goes veg at least three times a week). I covered mine with soy nut butter and flax seeds and his with natural peanut butter and sunflower seeds. Soo yummy and he was crazy about it!
I made themlast night and oh so yummy! I ground up some dark cocoa roasted almonds and roll them into that...and a dab of fat free cool whip..heaven!Thanks for the ideas.. I am hooked!
This was the most "on time" topic for me.
I was at the farmers market and I beleive the minimum number of kilos he would sell me was either 2 or 3 . . . over a dozen bananas (so must have been 2 kilo minimum) I put a half dozen in the freezer a couple of hours ago, and they were mostly frozen, but based on the above, I went through the exercise of peeling them - needed a knife and there was some waste.
And after peeling frozen bananas, I had to try some. I took a tablespoon of peanut butter and 20 grams of dark chocolate and microwaved until melty. Stirred it up and used it as an impromptu fondue. OMG! Decadent, delicious. I may just go with cocao powder and honey with my pb next time. Pandora's box is open!!
This was a great idea and a great thread. Thanks!!
So I'm definately going to try the roll and freeze tactic :)
