I love fruit and I know it is good for you but I was wondering if I eat too much fruit. Every time I snack, I snack on fruit.

I eat up to 6 servings of fruit a day. I eat a banana or strawberries for breakfast, then 2-3 kinds during the day (apples, pears, oranges) and then always 1 cup of grapes in the evening.

Anyone has any idea? Is it too much? Should I eat less? I am worried about too much sugar, because I can easily eat 4-5 big apples a day. I almost gave up cookies and pastry but if I have to give up fruit as well, that'd be too much for me. Any thought on that?

ideally, too much of anything isn't good for you, I saw on tv once a guy who was like 600 pounds, and he loved oranges and oranges are good for you but he was eating 45 of them a day, I think oranges are less than apples, also required additional work, I don't know the answer here.

I know that too much of anything is bad but I stay within 1400 cal a day and I work out every day (well maybe 6/week) and I was wondering whether I should stop eating 6 servings of fruit. Just a thought..

im like except probably double BUT I dont have dinners or lunches i just eat whenever mostly...and i lost 55 pounds so not to worry.

EAT MORE

For myself there is no such thing as too much fruit!!! Cool

good! thanks, I really am not ready to give up fruit after all Laughing

As long as you're getting vegetables as well, it should be alright.

Fruit is cleansing; it digests quickly and helps get toxins out of your digestive tract for that reason, not to mention giving you antioxidants and vitimans.

Good rules to stick by if you're going to eat so much fruit are these:

1. Buy organic fruits and vegetables. It's sometimes okay to eat conventionally grown fruits and veggies, but if you're consuming a large amount of them per day, you risk accumulating a larger amount of pesticides and toxins than the FDA assumes you will when they say those chemicals are 'safe.'

2. Look into food combining. I'm not too too into food combining, but I find that since fruit digests so fast, it's important to eat fruits in a way that they will digest the easiest. Eat acidic fruits alone (oranges, grapefruit, pineapple, etc), and eat basic fruits alone (bananas, avocados, etc), and eat melon alone.

3. Try to stick to fruits when they are in season. This is when they are the most bountiful nutritionally. Citrus is in season in the winter (since below the equator it is summer), apples and blood oranges in the fall, EVERYTHING in the summer, and berries in the spring, I think.

Fruit is good and healthy, but too much of it is not good. Sugar, sugar! Any nutritionist or doctor will tell you that. Laughing  I love it, too!

Im the same.  I eat fruit all the time.  Especially for breakfast and snacks.  I wont stop eating it, I'd rather eat that for a snack when I'm hungry than junk.

Sure, that's the way I feel too. That's why I couldn't do Atkins - giving up fruit is too much for me.

If it works for you, then great! Fruit sugar is nothing to worry about.

Personally, fruit doesn't keep me full for very long, so I don't eat all that much of it. I eat it for the vitamins and minerals, (fruit is way healthy,) but it's not very satisfying alone. I probably have about 2 servings of fruit a day.

I know I overeat fruit.  The average person eats 8 lbs of grapes a year.  I swear I can eat 8 lbs of grapes a week.  They are my biggest weakness at the moment, so I am going to finish the two bags I have in my fridge and not buy anymore.  I am trying my hardest to limit fruit now because it bloats me.  It's going to be the most difficult thing yet!

The problem with eating too much of anything is if it means you're not eating enough of something else.  Fruit is very healthy so keep enjoying it but make sure you're getting a good mix of wholegrains/complex carbohydrates, meat/fish/beans, vegetables, fats and so forth at the same time.  Variety keeps you healthy and is also more effective if you're trying to lose weight.

IMO.  Atkins is a joke.  I'm not cutting out anything especially carbs thats where we get our energy from.  I need them. lol.  If Im cutting anything its calories.

Also there's nothing like a big fresh bowl of fruit, MMmmm.  Especially when its all in season.  I've been eating so many berries.  Strawberries, rasberries, blueberries.  Just put them in a bowl and enjoy, nothing else needed.   I got a bag of bing cherries yesterday and ate about half the bag.  They are so expensive though, I paid like $8 for the bag.  It was worth it though.  My boyfriend bought a mini cherry pie for his dessert and I bought a bag of cherries, no pie for me.

It good that you reach for fruit as a snack instead of biscuits or other junk. Like others have said anything to an extreme is not good.

I'm a fruit lover, I have my 5-a-day or more sometimes. It depends.

Did someone say Atkins! Grrr! Tried that, didn't lose much weight on that, all of it came back. I know you can lose weight on it but you are miserable git during it. I remember reading about the maintenance part of the diet and didn't like the look of that. I recall being sick the first day because I had a long shift at work but very little food. I needed carbs but I was cutting them out.

I whole heartedly recommend the slow method, control portion sizes, eat healthy, exercise and lose weight 1-2lbs per week. This is why I like CC :)

I also eat a lot of fruit. I have already had a banana, and a nectarine, and I am currently eating another nectarine. I have cherries and strawberries and blueberries for snack later.

I don't drink juice, and it serves as a sweet quencher for me.

As long as you are staying within your calories AND are still getting a good balance (as someone else mentioned) of protein and complex carbs then you are fine.  Veggies have huge benefits too and make sure you are at least incorporating the dark green ones (broccoli, spinach).  Also, sounds like you are getting a good variety of fruit, which is good.  Blueberries, strawberries, grape fruit, watermelon, cantaloupe are all lower cal so just keep mixing it up.

You almost can't eat too much fruit, unless, like others have said, it is causing you to eat less of other things you need for a balanced diet.

Don't cut back on servings, but if you feel you are getting too many calories, go for some of the fruits with lower sugar and caloires.  Here is a chart to help.

it's all about calories. As long as you're creating a deficit, you'll lose weight.

I dont believe there is a problem with eating fruits. I mean of course if u eat 45 oranges it may be bad but thats cause you problably eating more stuff, and if u dont, then u not gettin other important nutrients to your diet.

I had hear some stuff about fruits like bananas, mangoes and grapes.  They may be too sugary specially for people with diabetes while others fruits like apples have no problem at all.  I eat 1 apple per day, half a pear per day and 1 orange per day.. but bananas i try to limit to 2-3 per week, when i want to eat cereal and use only half of it.

Too much fruit?  "As I finish my last cherry and throw the bag in the trash and smile"  ha ha  I ate strawberries 3 hours ago, and just finished my cherries.  I still have my gala apple and a banana to eat before my night shift is over!   I do have a salad and extra carrots and pea pods to munch on too.  Along with some whole grain crackers.   This is how I stay under my calorie limit and still be able to use food to keep me awake on the LONG and BORING night shifts!!      If your fruit intake isn't causing you any problems... then keep eating it!     I'm suffering from a nasty cold also and the fruit is wonderful in vitamins to help fight it off!!

If fruit didn't exist... I'd be dead!  ha ha
