Hello there! I have a question requiring fruit and whether there is such a thing as too much. I'm a celiac disease victim and my intestines can't tolerate gluten (wheat). I also eat a very vegan diet. I don't eat any junk food whatsoever. My diet is just mainly fruits, veggies, legume and nuts. However, most of my calories go to fruit. I can't help it really, fruit is good! Any tips are welcomed! Thanks and enjoy your Sunday.Smile

The test is whether your diet is a) adequate and b) balanced.  Adequate in the sense that you're getting enough energy to function normally... typically for an adult woman that's about 2000 cals a day.   And balanced in the sense that you're getting a good mix of as wide a range of foods as possible - extremely important for vegans to get sufficient iron, for example. The downside of fruit is that it tends not to provide much in the way of calcium, B vitamins, iron and others...  other things, yes.  At each meal you should be happy that you're getting some protein, fat, vegetables and complex/starchy carbohydrates.

Whether you're eating too much fruit therefore depends on whether you're not eating enough of the other types of foods available to you.  If you keep your food log for a few days you should be able to get a balance of 25-30% of your calories from fats, 15-25% from protein and 40-65% from carbohydrates (vegans typically are at the upper end for carbohydrates and lower end on protein).  Sugar intake should be no higher than 50g (and someone will tell you 'oh that doesn't count if it's fruit').... but if you found you were getting 100g, 150g or 200g of sugar due to your fruit consumption that would probably say 'too high'.  Fibre should be >25g.  Sodium <2400mg.  If you run the analysis and wave your mouse over the date you'll also get a indication of the vitamin and mineral content of your diet.  Then you can judge for yourself.

Thanks Gi-jane! I usually don't log in the foods that I eat but I'll do so now to get an analysis on the amount of sugar I'm taking in. I should stop being lazy. Ha!

I would think your fat intake is probably too low, and possibly protein. You may not eat junk but be wary of eating excessively healthy - never allowing yourself a treat can be just as unhealthy as eating too many treats.

I have about 2 servings of nuts a day.. That's about 30gs of fat. I don't think that's very low. Is it?

30g fat is roughly 270 calories.... If you're getting an average 2000 cals a day (which would be pretty typical for a healthy adult woman) and aiming for 25-30% of those calories to come from fat that would be about 500-600 cals.

Again, it's another reason to run your menu by the food log...  I'm sure you eat more than just nuts.  When you use oil in cooking or as a dressing, that would bump up the total.  Avocados are another good choice.
