But i don't care about you, you can get fat if you want.   But if you were well-read like me, maybe you would take my advice.

Wow.  Do you have any idea how much your insolence hurts your case?  Book-reading, eh?  I worked in a bookstore for 2 years (and I'm a lifelong bookworm) and some of the CRAP that gets published out there is just mind-boggling.  The "Nutrition" section at the bookstore is one of the biggest jokes in publishing.   The whole section is changed out every 2 months or so in a cycle of the latest fad diets followed by all the medical evidence that comes out to disprove them.  It appears that all you need to get a nutrition book published is a certificate printed out from Joe's Skool of Eatin' Gude.com that says you are a "Diet Specialist" and some sort of shocking (read bookselling) new idea for a program.

I wouldn't go around bragging that I was an expert because I'd read a couple of books on carbs if I were you.  Because even if you were right about 90% of  it, no one's going to listen to you if you act like a self-righteous jerk.  For every one low-carb book that's out there, there's 10 books disproving it, 4 books agreeing with less than half of it, and 2 books claiming that the only way to lose weight is to stand on your head while eating blueberries at midnight.

I believe that the true path to weight loss is balance and portion control.  Make healthy decisions, focus on nutrient rich foods, and watch the amount of food and calories that you are taking in.  Then you increase your exercise to make an overall healthy lifestyle.  No doctor would argue that this won't work if you stick to it...its a time-honored solution that works for millions.  I've never known anyone who kept the weight off with a low/no carb diet, nor have I known anyone who didn't get somewhat sick attempting to follow it to the letter.

So continue to call fruits evil....I will be laughing as I enjoy my tasty apple and while watching the pounds melt away.

I was losing weight just fine until I started raising my carbs. and the I stalled out and my enegy level is way down.    I was about 24% carbs and now 35% and it seems to be not good. Plus I am getting hungrier by eating so many carbs.

Back to 35% protien at least. 20% carbs is more than enough.

skipastarz - I don't think there's any question that some people are more sensitive to carbs. But the people who make blanket statements like "The key to weight loss is controlling the amount of carbohydrates we eat" are simply talking out of their posteriors... the only "key" to weight loss is calories in vs calories out. Everything else is going to be much more individualized. Some people do better with less carbs. Others find that if they try to reduce carbs too much, they go crazy.

Too often, people reduce their carbs because they've bought into this idea that you only get fat from carbs, and not because they actually do better with lower levels of carbs.

I can tell you that for me, I'd probably go on a killing spree if I tried to reduce my carbs to 20%. It just ain't going to happen, and I still lost weight just fine.

So, at that ratio you're eating 45% fat? I am definitely not a fat-phobe, but that does seem a little excessive to me.

In contrast, less than 40% carbohydrates has been shown to cause an increase in irritability, depression, insomnia and fatigue. If you feel ok on 20% carbohydrates, fine - but you're probably the minority,

It's simple, calories in vs. calories out...  There's no particular macronutrient that makes you gain weight quicker. I don't understand why everyone is making it more complicated than it needs to be!
