fruit juice detox?

Quote  |  Reply

i'm currently on a fruit juice detox...because i thought that it would be best to flush out the toxins before losing weight. I've heard that this fruit juice diet can help lose weight as well. Has it worked for anyone?

do you think that the weight will stay off? Im 17, 5"2 and 128 lbs. My goal is to reach 100 lbs, any tips would be great!

What "toxins" are you trying to "flush-out"? and how exactly is drinking nothing but fruit juice going to aide in this?

Wont work

i've did it before...it helps to flush your system but it only helps you lose "water weight" which you gain back once you start eating. the last time i did the "hollywood diet" , which was two months ago i kept off all my weight that i lost during the fast. i think its because i was taking the diet supplement Alli and i also watched what i ate and continued exercising regularly. it is honestly, a quick fix and made to help jump start weight loss but i made it work for me

thanks. I'm not doing the detox in order to lose weight, just simply as a detox. But the jump start thing sounds like a bonus :)

There is no such thing as "detoxing" your body. If your body couldn't get rid of toxins you'd be dead. You can clean up your diet and feel significantly better by eating only veggies, fruits, lean proteins, whole grains like bulgar, barley, etc.

I did the whole lemonade diet thing and gained all the water weight right back.  You're not flushing anything out of your body.  The only thing you're doing (if you're using organic fresh fruit to make the juice) is reducing exposure to things that you might have a mild allergy for.  I stopped eating chocolate and wheat during the lemonade diet and my skin cleared up.  I reintroduced both and my skin is breaking out again.

Instead of juicing as a way to "start dieting," I recommend a program called "Ten Years Thinner."  During the first two weeks, you cut back on foods that typically give people reactions, make them retain weight and aren't always good for us.  You then slowly ween yourself back onto different foods to see how your body reacts to them.  Much better for you because you learn how to eat (good portion sizes, healthy food) instead of starving yourself for a quick fix.

You're young, so I'd recommend a gradual, maintain-able diet that helps you stay healthy and gives you enough nutrients that you can have energy to go out and exercise!

What are you trying to "detox", what "toxins" are you concerned about and why do you think only drinking fruit juice will help?

i'm not doing this to lose weight. recently ive been eating really bad and my stomach has been feeling awful...i just wanna give myself a break. its literally only for 3 days, its hardly starving myself. i know im not a scientist or anything but sometimes it can do you good

the fruit juice just helps give me some vitamins, and i make the juice myself, from fresh fruit

Hey there!

I've done a detox before and I think they are fantastic.  The one I did was all fresh fruit and veggies, lean protein and nuts.  No processed food, sugar, wheat, dairy... I found out that I had a mild sugar addiction!

The juice detox can give you the "runs" so if you haven't done one before, I might try one similar to the detox I followed.

They totally work too, I felt a million times better.

I didn't say anything about losing weight or starving yourself, I asked (this is now the 3rd time) what "toxins" you were trying to cleanse yourself of? and how only drinking fruit juice would help the cause?

Getting the runs made you feel better? you must have been in pretty bad shape before if having the runs was an improvement.

You'd think I'd give up on these threads but they are so damn entertaining sometimes.

"Detoxes" and "Cleanses" are for anorexics who are feeling guilty about that handful of goldfish crackers they had last week. It's a good sign of an eating disorder IMO.

That is an awful thing to say.  Someone very close to me has anorexia and I am offended.

My mom was an anorexic. That's how I know what I said is true.

Why are you offended?

That was a very ignorant comment to make. You can not clasify everyone in the same group just because you mom did the fruit detox.

What's with the attacks?  Frequently you have good and informative posts and then other times you go off on a tear like this.

Detoxes and cleanses are for whomever wants to do them.  As long as the detox or cleanse is not restricting calories below a safe minimum and the intention is not weight loss there's no reason not to be supportive.  Even if you disagree there are so many nicer ways to say it which is likely to get thought instead of the knee jerk reaction.

Some people feel that a detox/cleanse is a good way to force themselves off of whatever their personal bad habits may be and then allow them to slowly reintroduce other foods.

"Detoxing" is unnecessary, and unhealthy.  End of story.

Look at this way.  What you put into your mouth comes out your butt.  In between these two points your machine needs a certain amount of lean protein, good fiber carbs and good fats.  Give your machine what it needs, and it runs efficiently.  Gum it up with stuff it doesn't need, like Twinkies and Cokes, and it doesn't.  Detoxing with fruit juices doesn't provide your machine with proteins or good fats just some carbs and fiber.

Our machines are not cars that can have the gunk flushed out of the motors with diesel.

What I don't understand is why you need to weigh 100 lbs.  I'm 5' 2" with a small frame and shouldn't weigh less than 110 according to most weight ratio tables.

Take care of your machine; it's not replaceable or returnable.  :D
