Fruit Fruit and more Fruit

Quote  |  Reply
Recently I went to a fresh fruit and veggie market and bought copious amounts of fruit and veggies.. now i'm wondering if i'm overdoing it. for example here is what i ate today:

B: oatmeal, and orange and maybe half a cup pineapple

L: about 3 cups stirfry, half a cup grapes, two pieces of toast

D: Small slice ham, half a cup green beans, about 2 cups pineapple, more grapes.

I will probly eat more fruit later, as i have two hours of hockey, but i'm wondering if this is too much fruit? any input would be appreciated!

I don't think that is excessive, but I wouldn't go much farther with it.  Fruit has a lot of nutrients and fiber, but it is also full of sugar.  Try upping your veggies more and cutting back the fruit slightly.

I wouldn't worry about the fruit but are you getting enough protein? Just the beans and the ham?
Nothing to worry about, this is not too much fruit !
thanks for the fast feedback.. Zeke, my bread has soy protein - like 12 grams i think
i think you should be eating more then that and add some protein
really? wow... i thought that was an awful lot, and trust me, i'm full. I also ate more pineapple and a glass of milk, if that helps. But really, try eating 3 supd of stirfry, tons of fruit and two pieces of toast and see.. it really stuffs you!
Oh I feel terible if you think thats too much fruit then I must be binging on it every day, frequently exceeding 10 servings a day,
i usually eat: at least one orange, two apples, and plum through day. but today i am having orange, banana, apple, pear and a plum. i know fruits are really good for you but now i am starting to stress about all the sugar in them. is this too much fruit sugar wise?
I have been told, 1 fruit a day, but I am also trying to lose weight. It does have alot of sugar and if your not burning it off...then it will turn to fat. I would be careful with all that fruit. Just wanted to share what I have been told and what works for me.
i am not trying to lose. i am maintaining and work out 4x per week very strenously.

I've been reading "Fit For Life" and they suggest that fruit be eaten alone on an empty stomach. They also suggest that we wait at least 20mins after eating fruit before eating anything else.
I personally think that's too much sugar but in all reality you're doing GREAT getting that many servings in. Would be better if it was mostly vegetables though. As long as you're not gaining weight, go with it. They say to get 5 to 9 servings of fruits and vegetables per day; I say 5 to 11. Ideally just 2 or 3 should be fruit I would think.
Heh. Okay so now I feel really terrible because you've had barely any fruit by my standards and people say that's too much sugar. Today I've had 2 pears, 1 apple, 1 punnet strawberries, 1 banana and 2 servings of grapes- and this is a good day! Yesterday I had FIVE pears amongst a ton of other fruit, and sometimes if I have plums in the house I can easily eat 7 a day... What a horrible world we live in where even FRUIT has to be restricted. I guess I was delusional thinking that eating fruit was good for me.. I should be eating processed food instead.
People are just giving their opinions. Nobody is saying to restrict fruit and eat processed food instead. Too much of ANYTHING can be bad ... even the good stuff. I know, myself, when I eat too much sugar I get majorly bloated.
"Can a Person Eat Too Much Fruit?

Q: Health experts tell us to eat lots of fruits and veggies, but can a person eat too much fruit? On an average day, I eat about 2-1/2 cups of grapes, two apples, two pears and, at dinner, two servings of vegetables. I?m trying to lose a little weight and am worried that fruit may be deceptively high in calories and sugar.

Answer provided by Terese Scollard, MBA, R.D., L.D.: Yes, fruit is high in natural sugars, and grapes are among the sweetest of fresh fruits. No wonder cold grapes taste so good!

Should you cut back on fruit? Probably ? especially if you want to lose weight and eat a balanced diet. All of the food groups are important. If you go overboard on one kind of food ? even one as terrific as fruit ? you'll miss out on the valuable properties of other healthy foods.

The Dietary Guidelines for Americans recommend two cups of fruit and 2-1/2 cups of vegetables each day for a person on a 2,000-calorie diet. You are eating twice the recommended amount of fruit and less than half the recommended amount of vegetables.

This is not an awful problem as diet problems go ? it?s better to be nibbling too many grapes than M&Ms or Cheetos. But a few changes will round out your overall diet and help you drop those pounds more easily.

Let's say that you weigh 150 pounds, that you typically eat 2,000 calories per day, and that your goal is to get to that 500-calorie deficit by burning 200 calories through exercise and cutting 300 calories from your diet each day. That makes 1,700 calories your daily limit for what you can consume.

Fruit is about 80?100 calories per serving. A serving is one cup of fresh fruit or a half cup of canned fruit. ... You are eating about 7-1/2 servings of fruit per day. At an average of 90 calories per serving, that's 630 calories from fruit alone!

Vegetables vary in their calorie counts, but 35 calories per serving is another general guideline. So you are eating another 70 calories from the two daily servings of vegetables you mentioned."

I lost 2Lbs on an un-restricted fruitarian diet, eating lots of olives and avocados and unlimited amounts of grapes, apples ect so I dont think you can eat too much fruit, however the calorie content was high and manly from the fructose, in fact the sugar levels were ridiculous, so it is wise to be weary of them,
But I love fruit and nectarines are my signature food,
now I'm 114Lbs and feeling great,
