Too much fruit and vegetables?

Quote  |  Reply

I was wondering if anyone had any information regarding whether a person could eat too much fruit and/or vegetables.  I currently eat 4 servings of fruit and 4 of veggies a day and notice that I am having to pee all the time.  I know this is good for me, but a friend indicated that all that stuff eventually turns into sugar and could be causing a problem????

That sounds perfectly fine to me. I think there are people who get 12-15 portions and are fine.

Fruit and vegetables have a high water content, which could explain the extra peeing.

I eat a lot of fruits and vegetables (my housemate called it an addiction as she watched me empty and replenish a large bowl of fruit week after week).

I also get in a good amount of healthy fats and protein, but a majority of my carbs come from fruit and vegetables. The only other carbs I get are in the form of "fruit and vegetable delivery devices" such as; wasa crisp bread, whole wheat tortillas, the 1-2x a week bread I have on my fabulous veggie sandwich. I love those things.

So, eating extra fruits and vegetables isn't necessarily a bad thing. But remember, there are other types of food that should not be neglected. Balance is important.

If you are replacing other food with fruits and vegetables yes. If you are eating balanced and including all other necessary foods you are ok. It is about balanced nutrition. Fruits do have a lot of sugar so you can eat too much. Just get the recommended serving of both and you will be fine.

I`ve been eating 4 servings of fruit and 5-6 servings (at the very least) of veggies regularly and I feel absolutely wonderful. I also get my recommended servings of lean protein, good fats, dairy and grains. The only thing that might become an inconvenience is that at the end of the day you could have no more room left for a little treat such as chocolate or ice cream. So make sure that once in a while you cut back on a serving or 2 of fruit&veg and eat a cookie, just to keep yourself sane. ;)

Yep, on Friday I skip the fruit and go for the brownie Wink Gotta have a cheat meal.

4 servings each of fruit and veg a day are quite fine.  Just watch out for higher cal fruit like avo's and banana's, rather have them early in the day than late at night.

You are eating the perfect amount of fruits & vegetables a day! If you really are that concerned though you can just chose the healthiest options - the lowest sugar fruits & the lowest starch vegetables. The sugar is vegetables is minimal so you shouldn't feel at all guity eating your veggies... fruit on the other hand has a bit more so I would watch it a tiny bit - but honestly, you are being very healthy! Your friend is probably jealous that she can't quite get 8 to 10 servings of produce a day!
